The Boca Raton Museum Art School is busy with on-site exhibitions and events!  The short Term 1B (4 weeks) starts on Oct. 1^st and Term 2 starts on October 29^th.  Everyone is invited to the 5th Annual Boca Photo Exhibit on Sunday, October 7th. Join Allan Pierce, instructor/professional photographer, for a day of informal discussions and workshops on photography led by advanced students of the Art School.   The first Student’s Exhibition Opening Reception takes place on Tuesday, October 16th.  Celebrate the first term student’s artwork at the Art School main gallery. Exploring Acrylics with Instructor Vicki Siegel:

The class focuses on various foundation skills for painting in a creative atmosphere. Learn how to get started, setup a palette and mix color, brushwork, wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, glazing, layering, texture, and how to use gels and mediums. Pet Portrait Painting with Instructor Renee Plevy

Working from your own photographs or iPad images, learn drawing and color mixing skills to obtain accurate proportions using oil paint. Animal anatomy, paint handling, and the use of light will be discussed. Clear instruction is given through demonstrations and one on-one guidance. A 7 year-old’s drawing capturing the directed light in a Morandi inspired still-life 

The Public Library is hosting an exhibit spotlighting two of the Art School’s classes; the after-school art class with Maria Weiss and advanced photography with Allan Pierce. Mrs. Weiss’ after-school class is a fun and richly educational art studio where students learn a variety of art techniques, coupled with art history and vocabulary. Dr. Pierce pushes his students to use their skills beyond taking good photographs in order to create outstanding emotive photographs.

The Boca Raton Museum Art School is partnering with the Plein Air Painters of Palm Beach County to paint portraits of houses and views of the streets of Old Floresta. The outdoor painters will be painting in the neighborhood on two Thursdays per month from September to December.  The culminating event will be a juried exhibit of the painting in gallery of the Boca Museum Art School in March, 2016. Portrait of Old Floresta

The Boca Raton Museum Art School is partnering with the Plein Air Painters of Palm Beach County to paint portraits of houses and views of the streets of Old Floresta.

 

Old Floresta is the Mizner designed neighborhood behind the Art School. There are twenty-nine original 1920’s homes along the picturesque tree-lined streets of Old Floresta.

 

The outdoor painters will be painting in the neighborhood on two Thursdays per month from September to December.  The culminating event will be a juried exhibit of the painting in gallery of the Boca Museum Art School in March, 2016.

Redefine the concept of a “book” when you create unique 3 dimensional works of art using various formats for traditional and sculptural book forms. The Art School is initiating new “appetizers” or first courses for beginners who want to test out their creative side and for experienced artists to try a new technique. The appetizer courses are short, fun, creative, and do not require lots of art supplies.

 

 

 

 

They include make your own Pop-Up book; colored pencil drawing; perspective drawing in 4 sessions; learn glass fusing to make jewelry; print making to design your own notecards; and Kumihimo braiding for jewelry. The appetizer courses start in late September.

 

 

 

The Art School is increasing its evening and Saturday classes and expanding it ceramics department, offering additional pottery classes and a new Figurative Clay Sculpture class. The Art School is hosting an exhibit of ceramics in the gallery opening August 28, 5-8pm.  The Exhibit runs through September 29th, featuring work by Catalina Aguirre- Hoffman, Barbara Brown, Justin Lambert, Diane Lublinski, Susan Maguire, Lori Gregory, Stephen Hubbard and others.

 

With over 100 classes each month there is something for everyone from absolute beginners to experienced artist. Studio classes are conducted in eight areas: book making, ceramics, drawing, jewelry arts, painting, digital photography and video, print making, and sculpture. 

 

 

The Art School is a community of people interested in art and is the teaching branch of the cultural campus comprised of the Art School, Artists’ Guild and Museum.

 

 

 

Originally the Artists’ Guild conducted classes in Mizner-designed Boca Raton Hotel. In 1962 the Guild constructed the building on West Palmetto Park Road which served as Museum and Art School until 2001 when the Museum opened in Mizner Park.
