The Armory Art Center has provided high-quality visual arts instruction for three decades. Housed in an historic art deco building, the Armory provides art classes for students of all ages, exhibitions, art salons, lectures, and special events. Held in 12 state-of-the-art studios with nearly 20,000 square feet of classroom space, nearly 300 courses are offered in ceramics, digital arts, drawing, glass, jewelry, painting, printmaking, fiber, and sculpture. Twelve exhibitions are hosted annually in our three galleries.

National Watercolorist Carol Z. Brody Presents at Wellington Art Society’s September Meeting

Carol Z. Brody, NWS, FWS will be the featured demonstrator at the Wellington Art Society Open House Reception on September 9, 2015.  The meet and greet reception with refreshments will begin at 6:30, followed by a member spotlight and brief meeting. Carol’s demonstration will highlight the meeting. The evening will close with a fabulous raffle. Carol Brody is a distinguished and internationally know watercolor artist. She is a native New York and a graduate of Brooklyn College with additional studies at Parson School of Design and many prominent watercolor artists. She now resides in Wellington.

Her paintings reflect her love of color and texture. She allows her paintings to begin as a flow of feelings, intuition and spirit. As her paintings grown and emerge they begin to suggest a form which she develops by many layers of glazing.

Carol has won many awards for her beautiful wet-in-wet paintings. She is also an inspiring teacher since 1987, sharing her personal color palette along with glazes and other techniques. She gives workshops and serves as an exhibit juror.

She is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Florida Watercolor Society and others and has been featured in many art magazines. Carol has had eight major one person exhibits in New York and West Palm Beach. Her paintings hang in many private homes and corporate offices including UBS Paine Webber, Price Waterhouse and Kent State University School of Art in Ohio.

The Wellington Art Society is a non-profit charitable organization in its 34th year. It is open to artists of all mediums and patrons of the arts, allowing both local and regional artists to display their art work in local galleries, interact with other artists and serve the community through their art.

Florida Watercolor Society Hosts 43rd Annual State Convention In Deerfield Beach

Attending the convention of an organization guarantees interacting with like-interested people, hearing high-level speakers and experiencing unusual workshops. The Florida Watercolor Society Announces it 43rd Annual State Convention.  The events begin on September 15th with Pre-Convention workshops.  There will be a trade show, Gala Dinner, demonstrations and meetings.  The Rickie Report shares the details here.  We hope you will take advantage of seeing the exceptional exhibit at the Delray Center for the Arts/Cornell Museum of Art and American Culture and all of the activities of this exciting convention taking place!  Meet the Exhibition juror Frank Webb.  With over 1,100 members, FWS is one of the largest state-based watercolor societies in the United States.  Membership is open to all artists residing in the State of Florida.

The Florida Watercolor Society’s 43rd Annual State Convention will kick off with an  Opening Night Reception/Art Exhibit from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 19th at the Delray Center for the Arts/Cornell Museum of Art and American Culture, 51 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach, FL 33444.   The fee to attend  the exhibit as well as the four-day convention is $20.

Attendees at this year’s Florida Watercolor Society (FWS) Conference will be able to experience not only the art and philosophy of the Society’s Exhibition Juror, Frank Webb, but gather the knowledge of his life experiences.  Frank Webb is a Dolphin Fellow of the American Watercolor Society and a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society.  He teaches and judges art exhibitions for these organizations and other State and Regional Societies.

 

 

 Webb will kick off the convention on Thursday night, September 18th with a dramatic demonstration featuring his unique painting style. Prior to that, he will teach a workshop and host a review of the exhibition during the convention. In words and pictures, he will reveal the unique philosophy and technical process behind his work.

The 43rd Annual FWS Exhibition will be held September 4 – November 15, 2014 at the Delray Center for the Arts/Cornell  Museum of Art and American Culture. It is located at 51 N. Swinton Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33444. The display will feature 100 of the best paintings by Florida’s top watercolor artists.

  • Demonstrations by 22 different artists, featuring both new techniques and genres
  • Critiques from award-winning artists
  • An extensive tradeshow with vendors from across the United States offering products at exclusive prices 
  • Demonstrating artists will include Myrna Wacknov, Anne Abgott, Kathleen Mailing, Robin Lee Makowski, Carol Frye, Dottie Hutton, Jane Collin, Cole Wolford, Susan Hanssen, Judy Nunno, Libit Jones, Joseph Melancon,  Atlee Harmon,  Lynn Kroll, Pat Weaver, Janet King and Carol Brody.
  • Critiques of the 2014 Exhibition  from juror Frank Webb.  
  • Myrna Wacknov and  Sue Archer will critique submitted paintings plus a panel of experts. 
  • There are also ‘One on One Critiques’ available with Miles Batt and Myrna Wacknov for artists who are trying to take their art to the next level.

Exhibition awards will be presented at the Gala Dinner on September 20th.  The cost to attend the dinner is $55. Registration for all other convention events is only $20, plus small additional attendance fees for critiques and the Juror’s Exhibition review.

 

 Workshops

 

Prior to the Convention, internationally known artists Frank Webb and Myrna Wacknov will hold workshops from September 15 through 18, also at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel.   The fee is $395 for members and $450 for non-members for the Workshops. Judy Nunno is an award-winning watercolor artist who specializes in painting crystal and glass.  She is a Signature Member of FWS and  a member of several art guilds. After a long career as an art director in New York and Dallas, Susan and her husband moved to Florida in 1999 and there she began to paint. She works primarily in watercolor and gouache. Her paintings are generally figurative, although recently she has been exploring non-objective painting. Her “Sheep Series” continues to be a favorite, combining allegory and whimsy in a variety of executions. The collection, “On the Subject of Sheep” was exhibited at the Coral Springs Museum of Art in March of 2008. The show ran three months and included 17 paintings. A painting from the series, “She’s Come Undone”  was part of the National Watercolor Traveling Exhibition  in 2009.

Susan is a Signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Florida Watercolor Society and Gold Coast Watercolor Society. Her painting “Foiled Again” won the Gold Award at the Florida Watercolor Society Exhibition in 2010 and appears in “Splash 13.” In 2013 she won the Gold Award again with her painting “Waiting Patiently.” Both pieces were featured among the Best Paintings of the Year in “Watercolor” Magazine.

 

After twelve years of teaching at the Boca Raton Museum School, Susan decided to retire this year and is focusing on workshops and teaching privately in her studio.
