The Treasure Coast Arts & Mindfulness Fest is long overdue! Organized by St. Lucie Cultural Alliance in partnership with MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Event Center, “Art and mindfulness warm our hearts and lift our spirits as we journey through life,” says Executive Director Alyona Ushe. “Combining the mind-opening benefits of art with the healing benefits of mindfulness is a perfect marriage”.

 

The Treasure Coast Arts & Mindfulness Fest is designed to enhance the cultural community while the fundraiser will further empower the organization to showcase local and regional talent.  We encourage artists from all over the state and beyond to be part of this festival”, Alyona adds.

 

This is the Alliance’s major fundraising event for the year to raise funds for the nonprofit organization artists grants program. This fest will also promote the arts, local artists, and provide value, fun, and entertainment for the whole family.

 

There will be painters, potters, photographers and sculptors; artists who create works from recycled components as well as fashion designers. Live music, dance productions and spoken word performance pieces will take place on stage. A children’s corner featuring family activities and crafts will provide the opportunity to create hands-on art. Multiple food trucks will tempt visitors with aromatic healthy food choices.

Focusing on the mindfulness part of the Fest, alternative health vendors in categories including acupuncture, nutrition, massage and hypnotherapy will be on hand, as will yoga and Pilates studios, Reiki masters and Tai Chi practitioners. Visitors will find all-natural soaps, hand-made crystal jewelry and sound healing instruments. Take the opportunity to have a Tarot card reading or a chakra analysis.

While most art lovers are mindful, and in turn, many mindfulness practitioners surround themselves with beautiful art, the Treasure Coast Arts & Mindfulness Fest will inspire everyone to “jump over the fence” to find new ways of enjoying every day. “The arts and mindfulness offer a natural partnership between two powerful disciplines,” says Alyona. Linda McCarthy, Director of MIDFLORIDA Event Center agrees. “Arts and cultural activities inspire civic pride, connect generations, bridge diverse groups, and serve as a symbol of Port St. Lucie,” says McCarthy.

 

All funds received from sponsorships and vendor fees will go into the Cultural Alliance’s Grant Fund to be awarded to artists and cultural organizations, as will monies raised from the sale of auction items and raffles. According to Alyona, the Grant Fund already has accumulated $25,000: $10,000 from the city of Port St. Lucie which helped launch the program and $15,000 from St.Lucie County and from the Florida Arts License Plate program. All grant awards will be awarded only to local entities “so we can continue growing the local cultural landscape,” says Alyona.

 

Deena Rahill, a Certified Sound Healing Practitioner is the organizer of the mindfulness portion of the Fest. She will play a set of crystal bowls in a live performance while Lisa Jill Allison paints a canvas for a symbiotic art and sound experience. Sound can be used to unblock creativity and focus the mind. Deena describes a crystal bowl sound bath as a meditative acoustic sound concert. It is quite an experience to be immersed in vibrational sound, one that lulls the listener into a peaceful and mindful state of being.

 

 

For those who are unfamiliar with crystal bowls, each one is made from 99.8 percent pure quartz crystal and is tuned to a particular note of the musical scale. When played, the sound frequencies affect brainwave activity, slowing down brain waves to enter a deeply restorative state, where the body rebalances itself to self-heal.  “Creative mindfulness activities assist in the development of self-awareness and resilience,” says Deena. Both mindfulness and art creation are linked to a flow state, one that allows a person to think in different ways. “When we practice mindfulness, we’re practicing the art of creating space for ourselves – space to think, space to breathe, space between ourselves and our reactions,” she adds.  Deena believes that, “The Treasure Coast Arts & Mindfulness Fest offers the opportunity to explore different modalities and find local providers who can help people discover and embrace new ways of managing their life. Ultimately, community is immunity.”

ArtisGras Fine Arts Festival Moves Back To Palm Beach Gardens With 280+ Juried Artists, Activities For Kids, Demonstrations, Live Music, Youth Art Competition. Volunteers Wanted.

The ArtiGras Fine Arts Festival presented by the Hanley Foundation is excited to announce after 20 years, the premier outdoor fine arts festival will be returning to Palm Beach Gardens. The 36th edition of ArtiGras will be held February 13-14, 2021, at the Gardens North County District Park on 117th Court North. “ArtiGras’ spent many years in Palm Beach Gardens both at the Gardens Mall location and off of RCA Blvd. We are thrilled to be back and couldn’t have asked for a better location in the Gardens North County District Park,” said Noel Martinez, CEO and President of the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce. “ArtiGras is an economic driver in the North County area with an impact of more than $2.8 million. With all the current construction on Central Boulevard, the timing was right for the return of the festival to Gardens.”

 

 

 

 

Palm Beach County has begun road construction at and past the intersection of Central Boulevard and University Boulevard in Jupiter at the exact location of where ArtiGras has been staged for two decades. This presented ArtiGras organizers with a challenge, and it was decided that a change of venue was needed. After a thorough search, an alternate location in the City of Palm Beach Gardens at the Gardens North County District Park was found.

 

 

 

 

“Art has long been a big part of our City’s identity. That dedication has been showcased in many ways over the years, so this is a great fit,” said Palm Beach Gardens Mayor Carl Woods. “We couldn’t be more excited to be the host city for ArtiGras and we look forward to not only welcoming our residents and visitors, but also providing a platform for artists who need our support.”

The ArtiGras Fine Arts Festival presented by Hanley Foundation is looking for volunteers to help make this Palm Beach North festival a most memorable one for both patrons and artists. Volunteer applications are being accepted online at www.artigras.org.

 

“This year we are looking for volunteers to make this 36th edition of ArtiGras safe and enjoyable for all those who attend,” said Noel Martinez, President and CEO of the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce which produces the ArtiGras Fine Arts Festival. “Volunteers are the backbone of ArtiGras, and with our new location in Palm Beach Gardens, we are looking to our volunteers to help us make this transition to a new venue seamless.”

 

 

 

 

Youth Art Zone

 

 

It takes more than 600 volunteers to help produce and organize ArtiGras. Volunteers can choose one of two shifts per day in the following areas: ArtiKids Zone, Parking/Transportation, Artist Relations, Site Operations, Volunteer Committee, Youth Art Competition Committee, Information Booths and Merchandising.

Safety is a priority this year, volunteers will have masks available if they need, and hand sanitizer stations will be located throughout the festival. Volunteers will receive a: free T-shirt, free admission before or after their shift the day of volunteering, special parking and free food/ beverages in the volunteer area. Students will also receive community service credit for the hours they volunteer.

RJM has been traveling nationally and internationally to communities since 2007, educating jewelers of all levels about mining and material sourcing issues involved in jewelry making through a fun, fast paced, 8 week-long project.  Jewelry students and professional jewelers from the region will transform donations into radically fresh and responsible jewelry.  The project culminates in an exhibition and sale of these wearable creations at the Lighthouse ArtCenter Gallery March 19-April 24, 2020. Those tangled chains, unmatched earrings and banged up bracelets sitting at the bottom of jewelry boxes around the South Florida area are exactly what jewelry artists participating in ​Radical Jewelry Makeover – South Florida ​want to get their creative hands on. Until December 21st the non-profit, Ethical Metalsmiths and Lighthouse ArtCenter are accepting donations of old, unwanted jewelry at several Palm Beach County area locations (see complete list below). Donors will receive discount coupons to apply toward the purchase of a new piece and sales will benefit student scholarships and Ethical Metalsmiths‘ efforts to educate and connect people with responsibly sourced materials.

 

 

RJM draws attention to the creativity and skills of local jewelry designers, reveals the stories behind our personal collections and encourages re-consideration of our habits of consumption. Currently, materials used in jewelry production are sourced from some of the poorest countries in the world, sacred lands and disputed territories. Often this sourcing comes at a great cost to the environment. In Tequesta, FL, RJM will bring together volunteer “miners,” who dig out and donate their old jewelry, with volunteer jewelers and students, working together as refiners and designers to collaborate on an exhibition of re-made jewelry. Radical Jewelry Makeover will​ ​offer an informed and creative alternative to traditional mining practices and jewelry production. ​You can help by donating some of the smallest items in your home, jewelry, for reuse and recycling.

 

WHY  IS  THIS  IMPORTANT ?

 

 

Did you know Titanium is mined in the State of Florida? Heavy minerals like Titanium have been mined in Florida since 1916. Titanium can be found in the sand of many of the beaches that line our State and is used for a variety of things from paint and makeup to helicopters and spacecraft. Today, the EPA estimates that hard rock mining is the most toxic industry in the United States. Additionally, Earthworks reports that an estimated 70% of the gold mined each year is used for jewelry, and that a single gold ring leaves more than 20 tons of mine waste. Ethical Metalsmiths, an artist run non-profit organization seeks to galvanize mining reform efforts by staging an “alternative supply chain” and is working with the Lighthouse ArtCenter, Armory Art Center and Resource Depot to bring their successful project, Radical Jewelry Makeover​ ​to South Florida in the Winter/Spring season 2020.

  • ArtsFest© | February 9 & 10, 2019: A two-day celebration of the arts held in Memorial Park and along E Ocean Boulevard, historic downtown Stuart to celebrate the arts – music, art, dance, kids’ activities and more!   Volunteer on the steering committee to plan the event or on the days of the festival.  

 

 

  • mARTies Awards | Oct 25, 2018: Held since 2003, this event showcases and honors artists, community leaders and businesses who are responsible for the success of the arts in our community.  Volunteer committee members solicit sponsorships, help with the nomination and selection process, coordinate the show and assist with the many other duties related to producing an event.

 

 

 

 

Be a part of our Arts in Education Programs!

  • Marvin S Cone Annual High School Juried Art Show: An annual exhibition, since 1988, featuring the artwork of local high school students.  Volunteers help coordinate and install the show as well as provide assistance during the awards ceremony in April 2019. 
  • ARTS Day: Volunteers assist with coordinating student / teacher registrations, coordinate artists and on the day of work with the artists and students to maintain a student/adult ratio of approximately 3:1.  This all-day event is held in various Martin County locations with artists teaching in a variety of media including acrylics, pastels, pen & ink, photography and watercolors.  
  • Arts Education Committee: new committee being established to support our many arts education projects and outreach to the youth in our community. 

Other Committees & Activities:

  • Fund Development Committee: volunteers are responsible for on-going outreach for new members.  May include special receptions/functions and solicitation of new audiences. 
  • Cultural Ambassadors: Sign up to visit our many galleries, arts organizations, museums and performing arts venues to distribute current Arts Council information and bring back current information for our Information Center. 
  • Office Support: Volunteers are needed to assist with basic office functions, including filing, data entry, mailing invitations/newsletters, and tasks related to social media, website updating and other communications strategies.

Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead At Lighthouse ArtCenter Offers Interactive Art Exhibition And Art Camp Plus Caldecott Award Winning Authors/Illustrators

Nowhere else in the entire state of Florida will another gallery or art camp provide the exciting opportunities like those available this summer at Lighthouse ArtCenter in Tequesta! During “Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead” Interactive Art Exhibition and Art Camp, ArtCampers will work in traditional media like clay, paint, and Papier Mache while at the School of Art. In the gallery they’ll create 2D and 3D art projects incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Five Caldecott Award Winning children’s author/illustrators will exhibit 100 original paintings from their best-selling books in the Main Gallery! The Young and young-at-heart can get cozy with the books they love and the beautiful artwork that fills them. This interactive exhibition includes: Mary GrandPre (illustrator, Harry Potter), Betsy Lewin (illustrator, Click Clack Moo, Cows that Type), Ted Lewin (illustrator, Pepe the Lamplighter), James Ransome (illustrator, Before She Was Harriet), Judy Schachner (author/illustrator, Skippy Jon Jones) and Tom Casmer, Professor, Ringling School of Art and in the Pop-Up exhibition space.  Visitors will have the opportunity to meet one or more of these icons in the children’s publishing industry. ArtCamp scholarships are available for those in need (ages 6 – 12) and volunteer opportunities exist for high school students seeking community service hours for graduation. The S. Kent Rockwell Foundation funded a new computer lab using software designed for children by Fab@School Maker Studio (a Peter H. Reynolds company) with help from the Smithsonian, MIT, and Virginia Tech.

The Lighthouse ArtCenter is a 501 c (3) nonprofit that has provided uninterrupted arts and cultural programming in the heart of Tequesta for 54 years. The gallery boasts 5,000 square feet of exhibition space where annually over 20,000 guests visit eleven art shows (some of national significance) that are locally produced and curated. The School of Art features 45 faculty members who teach over 2,500 adult students and 700 children (ages 6-12). Seventeen master artists lead workshops throughout the year and the Plein Air Festival is considered one of the best in the entire country. Outreach programs serve seniors as well as children and families who are underserved and economically challenged.

Cheryl Phan Shares Her “Paint For Children” Initiative, Giving Children Artwork To Smile About

The Rickie Report feels that Thanksgiving Day is a most appropriate time to share Cheryl Phan’s “Paint For Children” initiative.  This new not-for-profit’s mission is to brighten a child’s world with art. Each child chosen for this project is facing challenges, many life threatening.  Painting a favorite character or theme in their room gives them a sense of pride and special comfort. We share the details here and urge our readers to share – their artistic talents, their time to help this organization, and donations.

I love painting and creating things; walls, ceilings furniture; you name it I’ll paint it. I started my own faux finishing and decorative painting business 14 years ago called Artzy Fartzy Creations. It has since expanded into repurposing furniture and teaching classes on refinishing out-dated furniture pieces. I also write a monthly blog “Easy Peasy DIY Projects”. We are always looking for volunteers with or without art experience. The more volunteers we have the more children we can bless. Palm Beach County is our first Chapter. As we grow we will open additional Chapters across the US. At this time, we are scheduled to do a room makeover once a quarter, that’s four per year per chapter. VSA Florida – Palm Beach County will host their 20th Annual “Celebration of the Arts” on Friday, August 5, 2016 at the CMAA Therapeutic Recreation Complex in John Prince Park, Lake Worth. The event will feature a variety of artwork created throughout the year in VSA visual art classes and a performance by the “Very Special Actors” Community Theatre Program.
