The Lake Worth Art League offers cash prizes and ribbons for First, Second, Third, and Honorable Mention award winners, and a Ribbon Recognition award.

Non-member entry fees are $35. for first entry, $25. for the second and $20. each for third, fourth and fifth pieces.

Bring your art to the gallery on Sunday, May 16th from Noon to 4 pm.

You will fill out your entry form at the gallery.

All 2-D art must be wired for hanging, no sawtooth hangers.

The only unframed works accepted are those that are finished/painted on all sides, such as gallery wrapped canvas.

All water soluble art and photographs must be framed and have glazing.

All 2D art must have a label affixed to the back in the upper right hand corner.

The label must contain the following information: name of the artist, title of art, medium, size, price and phone number.

Very large works may not be able to be accommodated. 

3D work will be accepted for counter display, and must be tag labeled or labeled under the base.

We regret we can not accept jewelry. 

We do not accept artwork that is political, religious, social justice themed, or art that contains profanity.

Nudes in good taste may be accepted at the discretion of the Board.

The Board of Directors has the right to reject any artwork it deems inappropriate.

The gallery retains 20% of all sales, and collects sales tax.

Cash or check only accepted for entry fees. Artwork must remain for the duration of the show. 

 

ABOUT USOur gallery is operated by the members of the Lake Worth Art League, the oldest non-profit art organization in Palm Beach County, founded in 1941. The league is comprised of very talented artists from emerging to professional, working in all disciplines. More good news… it is very inexpensive to join and show. First, become a member for just $75. per year. You then have the opportunity to show up to 5 pieces of work in each of our 8 judged “season” shows and our remaining off season shows. Each season show is judged by a qualified judge that is not affiliated with the League. Member artists may also place small original items, jewelry, greeting cards, and prints/giclees in our boutique for sale. The Treasure Coast Arts & Mindfulness Fest is long overdue! Organized by St. Lucie Cultural Alliance in partnership with MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Event Center, “Art and mindfulness warm our hearts and lift our spirits as we journey through life,” says Executive Director Alyona Ushe. “Combining the mind-opening benefits of art with the healing benefits of mindfulness is a perfect marriage”.

 

The Treasure Coast Arts & Mindfulness Fest is designed to enhance the cultural community while the fundraiser will further empower the organization to showcase local and regional talent.  We encourage artists from all over the state and beyond to be part of this festival”, Alyona adds.

 

This is the Alliance’s major fundraising event for the year to raise funds for the nonprofit organization artists grants program. This fest will also promote the arts, local artists, and provide value, fun, and entertainment for the whole family.

 

There will be painters, potters, photographers and sculptors; artists who create works from recycled components as well as fashion designers. Live music, dance productions and spoken word performance pieces will take place on stage. A children’s corner featuring family activities and crafts will provide the opportunity to create hands-on art. Multiple food trucks will tempt visitors with aromatic healthy food choices.

Visitors will find all-natural soaps, hand-made crystal jewelry and sound healing instruments. Take the opportunity to have a Tarot card reading or a chakra analysis.

While most art lovers are mindful, and in turn, many mindfulness practitioners surround themselves with beautiful art, the Treasure Coast Arts & Mindfulness Fest will inspire everyone to “jump over the fence” to find new ways of enjoying every day. “The arts and mindfulness offer a natural partnership between two powerful disciplines,” says Alyona. Linda McCarthy, Director of MIDFLORIDA Event Center agrees. “Arts and cultural activities inspire civic pride, connect generations, bridge diverse groups, and serve as a symbol of Port St. Lucie,” says McCarthy.

 

All funds received from sponsorships and vendor fees will go into the Cultural Alliance’s Grant Fund to be awarded to artists and cultural organizations, as will monies raised from the sale of auction items and raffles. According to Alyona, the Grant Fund already has accumulated $25,000: $10,000 from the city of Port St. Lucie which helped launch the program and $15,000 from St.Lucie County and from the Florida Arts License Plate program. All grant awards will be awarded only to local entities “so we can continue growing the local cultural landscape,” says Alyona.

 

Deena Rahill, a Certified Sound Healing Practitioner is the organizer of the mindfulness portion of the Fest. She will play a set of crystal bowls in a live performance while Lisa Jill Allison paints a canvas for a symbiotic art and sound experience. Sound can be used to unblock creativity and focus the mind. Deena describes a crystal bowl sound bath as a meditative acoustic sound concert. It is quite an experience to be immersed in vibrational sound, one that lulls the listener into a peaceful and mindful state of being.

 

 

For those who are unfamiliar with crystal bowls, each one is made from 99.8 percent pure quartz crystal and is tuned to a particular note of the musical scale. When played, the sound frequencies affect brainwave activity, slowing down brain waves to enter a deeply restorative state, where the body rebalances itself to self-heal.  “Creative mindfulness activities assist in the development of self-awareness and resilience,” says Deena. Both mindfulness and art creation are linked to a flow state, one that allows a person to think in different ways. “When we practice mindfulness, we’re practicing the art of creating space for ourselves – space to think, space to breathe, space between ourselves and our reactions,” she adds.  Deena believes that, “The Treasure Coast Arts & Mindfulness Fest offers the opportunity to explore different modalities and find local providers who can help people discover and embrace new ways of managing their life. Ultimately, community is immunity.”

Exploring the Arctic

 

As global warming increases, the Arctic and its inhabitants are in danger. The melting of sea ice shrinks the area in which polar bears and walruses can hunt and take shelter. Even to the extent the refreezing occurs, the ice is less stable and still covers a smaller area.

In the Arctic, ice floats offers walruses a safer alternative to land for rest and access to food.

The sea ice in the Arctic is shrinking as global warming increases. That creates a serious problem for polar bears.

In the far Norwegian Arctic, food is scarcer than it has been ever. Polar bears try to get every bit of food from whatever they catch or encounter.

For this high-end predator, food is a continual challenge. A polar bear consumes about 43 seals a year, but the polar bear can only hunt for a part of that year. Not only is weather and cold an issue, but the Polar winter brings total darkness.

When forced to land, polar bears face a much tougher challenge in getting food. Seals are not there. In their quest for food, the bears sometimes end up in villages. That is not a winning strategy for the bear.

 

 

 

Photographic Journeys in Namibia

 

 

In southwest Africa, Namibia is a challenging land where adaptation is necessary for survival, the country’s summer sun is strong, and water is scarce. Enormous sand dunes rise from clay-caked, dry river pans. Despite the dryness and heat, trees and grasses find enough water and nutrients to grow. For the wild animals like giraffes and zebras, the watering holes are essential to daily life, and the trips to them are slow, dusty, and dangerous.

For most life, water is essential. Often giraffes acquire it with a flair at a watering hole at dawn.

 

 

“Color, light, and gesture are important elements in my work.”

 

 

My use of these varies intrinsically across landscapes, nature, people, and culture. My choices of timing, perspective, and composition are intended to draw the viewer into the setting and moment. Often, I try to pattern my pursuit of opportunities to the natural tempo of what I see.

Although my perspective is predominantly reality-based, I acknowledge not only the subjective nature of what I portray in my images, but an interest in pursuing at times more abstract images.

One of the smallest members of the antelope family, dik-diks, live predominately on plants. Given their small stature, their alertness and speed are important advantages in their survival.

The City of Palm Beach Gardens gives working artists an opportunity to showcase their artwork and share it with those that typically do not visit art galleries through the GardensArt program. The GardensArt program exists to bring artwork into public facilities within the City of Palm Beach Gardens.

 

 

The award-winning program celebrates 30 years and can boast that the exhibition experience has been very positive for over 500 artists that have participated since 1989.

 

 

The program is all about exposure and having artwork displayed in the community.

 

 

The City of Palm Beach Gardens supports the exhibition with social media, a press release, and publicity on our website at pbgrec.com.

 

 

Each venue requires certain sizes and styles. All artwork must be professionally wired, or gallery wrapped. The City will collect 15% of any sales made in connection with the show. A loan agreement will be sent upon approval of your work. Each art portfolio of images and resume will be reviewed by our committee.

“During my travels in the deep jungles of Borneo, the eyes of the orangutans struck me.”

 

 

This was the catalyst for my mission to raise funds and awareness for endangered wildlife. At the time, I had the amazing opportunity to visit the rehabilitation centre for orangutans.

I remember how heavy and steamy the air was as I walked towards one of the enclosures. The heaviness eased as my eyes met the most loving, big brown eyes I had ever seen. These eyes captivated me. The love shining from her eyes was the key to unlocking the personality and sentience that I burn to express through each of my works.

“When I draw, the eyes are what I notice first.

They mesmerise me.”

 

 

Once I have drawn the eyes, the rest of my work follows. I aspire to show not just an “animal” but a living, breathing being who shows intelligence and has feelings – who belongs to a family and plays an essential role within our ecology that balances our intricate web of life.

Before I start, I take time to connect with the animals and imagine being in their world – to listen to them so I can tell their story. I take all the time and care I need to perfect each mark I make. This is my way of honouring their story and respecting them at the deepest level of my being. It’s a slow and deliberate process that unfolds one stroke at a time.

 

“We are living at a tipping point for nature at this stage in our history and as a matter of urgency I feel we need to heal our broken relationship with it and treat ourselves and all living things as one big family.”

I realised that when an animal looks at you or you witness them looking at each other, you can see there’s no judgement, opinions or need to compare or compete. They show us how to just “be” and that is one of the main reasons why I focus on primates as my main subjects. They teach us how to connect with our hearts. Respect, trust and connection are instinctive to them. These are the very qualities that mankind needs to embrace and stop exploiting if we are to protect and conserve the bio-diversity that sustains us all.

 

 

I feel so blessed to express myself through my wildlife portraits; to reach others through the beauty and innocence that shine from an animal’s eyes. No matter which species I draw it feels only natural to me to portray sensitivity as a common denominator; something that animals don’t hide and inspires us to re-connect.

When people view my work I hope they are drawn in by some quality that they admire and can connect with. For thousands of years mankind has turned to animals for inspiration, to give us strength and hope, and to lift us up. In what appears to be such a chaotic, competitive and aggressive world I hope my work some how softens that blow.

“Conservation is so important to me because the thought and very real possibility of living on a planet that is unsustainable and devoid of the life force that nature gives us is simply not an option.”

 

 

 

Life on our planet is dependent on us respecting the perfect balance of our ecosystems that includes all of our beautiful wildlife and every single living thing; no matter how large or small, that is sustaining our web of life. We must leave them alone and give them the space they need to do their job of keeping themselves, and in the end – us alive.”

Why Geraldine Entered the ENDANGERED Fine Art & Photography Contest

 

 

When I open an email and learn about elephant populations plummeting even further as a result of the illegal ivory trade, rampant deforestation, wildfires, the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of innocent pangolins to make shoes, handbags or served as a delicacy, sharks losing their lives only for their fins to made into shark fin soup, or a defenceless baby chimp or orangutan ripped away from its mother to be sold as a pet – initially I feel so shocked I shut down and even feel nauseous.

I feel like these situations have gone so far that it’s out of my depth to do anything. I take some deep breaths and realise maybe, just maybe, there is hope to turn things around. This is where exceptional organisations like the Centre for Great Apes make such a difference through the ENDANGERED Fine Art & Photography Contest whose mission is to raise funds and awareness about the plight of endangered species. That’s why I support them. Knowing that all funds raised are giving rescued chimps and orangutans a peaceful and safe environment in which to live and be themselves inspires me to enter.

 

How Can Artists Help?

 

As visual artists we have a powerful platform to move and educate others on the plight of animals that are on the brink of extinction. During these times of uncertainty and change I believe we have an opportunity to raise more awareness and encourage the conversations that will inspire people into taking action to preserve these beautiful, magnificent animals and their habitats. These animals need a voice and we can be their voice.

Show times to the public will be 9 am to 4 pm, both days. Setup will commence Friday (January 1, 2021) from 10 am to 6 pm and must be complete prior to 8:30 am on Saturday morning (January 2, 2021).

* For those artists/vendors who were NOT with us in our 2020 show, the following items will need to be submitted in order to be considered for our show and reviewed by our jury.

* Returning artists/vendors who were with us in 2020 do not need to submit photos of work, display or bio.

CANCELLATIONS: Any cancellation made for any reason less than 45 days prior to an ART show is Non-Refundable. Cancellations will be due in writing (email preferred) in our office AT LEAST 45 days prior to the show date. We understand that problems arise and everyone cancels for reasons beyond their control; however, please understand there are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule. In the event the Art Show is Cancelled for any reason – all both fees are fully refundable. NOTE: The Art Show Committee has developed a layout and plan that allows for social distancing and safety. AWARDS: Ribbons & Cash Awards will be given for 1st Place ($250), 2nd Place ($150) and Honorable Mention ($100) in each category (2D, 3D, Jewelry & Fine Crafts), as well as one Best of Show ($500).

 

WAITING LIST: We have 80 available spaces. Once shows are closed or available space reserved, applications are still accepted for the waitlist. We will contact you as early as possible if any spaces become available. Please keep in mind that this may be as late as 2-3 days before the show. If you cannot work on short notice, the waitlist may not be the best option for you. If we call you from the waitlist to see if you would like to participate in the show, you have the option to turn us down without penalty.

 

PARTY WITH THE ARTISTS: 2021 brings a Saturday evening “Party With The Artists” Silent Art Auction and Reception. An opportunity for the public, guests and dignitaries to meet and talk with the artists, while enjoying a selection of hors d’oeuvres and light entrées, adult beverages and good music. Each approved Artist is provided with 1 ticket. Up to 2 additional tickets can be purchased by the Artist for $25 each. Tickets are on sale to the public for $50 each / $75 per couple.

 

CREDITS/REFUNDS: WE DO NOT ISSUE REFUNDS FOR CANCELLATIONS UNLESS notification is made at least 45 DAYS prior to the ART show. Cancellations must be made in writing (email preferred) and received in our office no later than December 1, 2020. In the event the Art Show is Cancelled for any reason – all both fees are fully refundable.

 

WEATHER: THIS IS AN OUTDOOR ART SHOW and will go on rain or shine. No credits or refunds will be issued if forces of nature beyond our control affect show. Please check our website or contact the office for updates on cancellations resulting from severe weather such as, hurricanes, tornados, flooding, etc. Please note, we will not cancel a show unless informed by state, city or local officials that it will be in the best interest of safety for all. If it looks like it is going to rain, we will not call a show prior to the event. It will be at the show coordinator’s discretion on site at the time.

Management has final rights for interpretations and disclosure and reserves the right to change any information as it becomes necessary (i.e., show venue, parking locations, additional city licenses, fees, policies, etc.). Any changes will be disclosed to parties involved as soon as they become available to us. We will make every reasonable attempt via e-mail or phone, as we feel best for confirmed parties. EXHIBITOR RULES AND REGULATIONS:

The Volunteers at the Friends of the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens (FPSLBG) would like to thank you for your participation in our shows. In order for you to help us make our shows the best they can be, we have established standard accepted rules and regulations. To participate in our events, you MUST observe the following:

All work must be original, handcrafted, created and exhibited by the approved artists themselves. Kits, imports, and mass produced items are not allowed.

All categories shall be reviewed, juried and screened prior to your acceptance. Any media NOT approved during the application process that appears in your booth at the event will be asked to be removed. Categories include: 2d, 3d, jewelry & fine crafts.

Displays must be professional and aesthetically pleasing.

Exhibitors will leave their exhibit space clean after packing up at break down. If your space is not clean after an event, you may be expelled or rejected from future shows.

For the Art Show, the application fee must be paid at time of application submission. It is VERY important that you include your full name and phone number on your checks to avoid miscommunication.

The approved exhibitor will occupy his or her booth at all times. NO subletting or sharing of space without prior approval. Maximum of 2 Artists Sharing a booth with prior approval.

TAXES – Each exhibitor is responsible for collecting the state sales tax and filing a report with the local Department of Revenue St. Lucie County Sales Tax is 7%.

BANK FEES – A $35 bank fee will be charged on all returned checks.

TENTS – Exhibitors are responsible for making their tents sturdy against wind, rain etc. Tents MUST be manufactured of flame-retardant materials. Dollies are suggested for set-up and breakdown for most shows! No vehicle will be permitted on the event lawn 30 Minutes prior to event opening and 30 minutes after event closing. Any vehicle not complying with these rules with be towed.

Exhibitors will receive an ample amount of booth space, which varies depending on the on the space selected. Exhibitors will NOT take up any additional space without first consulting with a show coordinator. ALL WORK, DISPLAY and STORAGE WILL NOT GO BEYOND THE ASSIGNED EXHIBITOR SPACE.

The exhibitor’s space shall be occupied by 8:45 a.m. the morning of the show or you will be considered a “no -show” and your space will be given away with no possible refund or credit.

Set-up and breakdown times will be strictly enforced. Please see show confirmation for details.

Your space number and event map will be provided the Monday prior to the show (Earlier if we have the final layout completed).

Management reserves the right to make final interpretations of all rules and regulations.

 

GENERAL RELEASE

The undersigned does hereby discharge, release and hold harmless, FPSLBG (all cities, property owners, and associations) and all co-sponsors from any and all manner of action, suits, damages, or claims whatsoever arising from any loss or damages or claims, to the person or property of the undersigned while in possession or under the supervision of the sponsors during the Art Show, and hereby consents to enforcement of all rules of this event. Furthermore, the undersigned artist hereby certifies that all display work is handcrafted and created by the show participant. Participant understands that any mass-produced item on display can cause expulsion from the show or future shows. There are no rain dates. MANAGEMENT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DISQUALIFY ANY EXHIBITOR CAUSING ANY PROBLEMS TO FELLOW EXHIBITORS OR MANAGEMENT. Failure to comply with the rules and regulations set forth on the reverse side of this General Release may result in expulsion from any and/or all events. Management reserves the right to make final interpretation of all rules.

 

The applicant understands that if this application is not accepted, all fees and photos will be returned by FPSLBG has your permission to reproduce artwork, through the photographs you have submitted, for the purpose of advertising and marketing the Festival. FPSLBG also has your permission to publish photographs or videos taken of your booth, work and photos of you during the Art Show for purposes related to promotion of the Festival, past or future.

The undersigned agrees to abide by the rules and regulations specified on the additional pages of this contract.
