St. Lucie Arts Alliance Shares Call For Youth Art K-12 And College Students In St. Lucie County. Deadline Is August 2, 2020

The St. Lucie Arts Alliance announces a Call For Youth Art, including grades K-12 and College students!  There is no fee to enter “Young Hearts To Arts” which will include a virtual gallery as well as a county-wide exhibition tour at local venues! Are you a local K-12 or college student? Enter to win in our “Young Hearts to Arts” campaign! Put your creativity to work to inspire our community to show their love and empathy.

This will be a two-part campaign:

 

A contest, which will take place online (website and social media) a county-wide exhibition tour at local venues

Participants are to illustrate love, friendship, community, or compassion in their masterpieces. Submissions will be entered into four categories:

Elementary school, Middle school, High school, College

Submitted artwork will be voted for by the general public. Each category will have a 1st place and 2nd place winners. Don’t miss this opportunity to be innovative, get your work showcased in public and win amazing prizes!

Contest guidelines:

  1. Participants must be local K-12 or college students
  2. Submitted art must be original work of the participant
  3. Artwork should not contain a demonstration of violence
  4. Submission must not depict hatred towards a person/ group
  5. Submissions will be accepted online (arrangements may be made for in-person submissions)
  6. Each participant may submit a short video, a maximum of 5 minutes, detailing the inspiration behind the submitted artwork. (optional)
  7. The submission deadline is Sunday, August 2, 2020.
  8. Participants who fail to abide by these rules will be disqualified

*By participating in this campaign, participants and/or parents give St. Lucie Cultural Alliance authorization to make copies of and share/distribute submitted artwork on all digital and printed formats.

Arts Council Of Martin County Calls For Visual Art Entries For Annual “Members Showcase”. Deadline Is June 12, 2020

The Annual “Members Showcase” of the Arts Council of Martin County is open for entries of 2D and 3D works of art.  Eligible artists are current, renewing, and new Member artists. While an in-person gallery experience isn’t possible due to Covid19 regulations, this exhibit will be present via an on-line gallery, in fact opening it to more art patrons than ever before.   • Artist must be a Current, Renewing, or New member of the Arts Council of Martin County.
  • One (1) artwork per Member Artist
  • 2D and 3D original work in all media completed in the last 36 months and not previously exhibited at the Court House Cultural Center or any other local art exhibit within 50 miles (i.e. The Elliott Museum, Lighthouse Art Center, Backus Museum, etc.).
  • Member artists may choose to use artwork included on their current listing on our Member Artist page or submit a new image for exhibit.
  • Photos of Artwork must be taken in good lighting, cropped to image only, clear and in focus, and minimum 72dpi resolution.

Conditions

 

  • Artists are encouraged to price their work for sale.  Commission is 25% to the Arts Council and 75% to the artist. Artist can choose to donate all proceeds to the Arts Council’s programs.
  • Sales price does not include shipping or delivery.  This will be handled separately between the artist and buyer.
  • The Arts Council reserves the right to refuse an artwork if the work is improperly framed, wired, misrepresented by the submitted digital image, and/or any other reason.
  • The Arts Council reserves the right to use any accepted image for promotional purposes.

Continuum PB Art Fair, the pop up multi-media art fair in Palm Beach County exhibiting regional South Florida artists, has provided exhibition opportunities for over 650 artists in the last 6 years selling art on their behalf averaging $65,000. The event with the support of private and public donations has been able to give awards and scholarships  upwards of $150,000.

Jewelry will ONLY be accepted if the artist is providing his or her own unique way to display.

2D artist can submit a MAXIMUM of THREE different images.

3D artist can submit a MAXIMUM OF THREE CONCEPTS HOWEVER can show a different angle of the same subject using UPLOADS 1-4. (Note: there is one option for video to show detail of your sculpture. No music, voices nor names can be listed only the sculpture)

If you exhibited with CONTINUUM WPB Arts from 2014-2019, please do not re-submit the same work. Any previous work submitted will be disqualified.

Commission: 60/40 split. Artists will receive 60% of the net proceeds of the sale, and the Coordinators will receive 40% of the net proceeds of any sale of artwork

Prize: Artists participating in CONTINUUM WPB Arts will be eligible to win awards in one of four categories.

All artwork will be juried anonymously based on artwork only, not by artist name.

Only the artwork and the artist statement will be provided to the jurors. Please DO NOT list your name in your artist statement.  If your name is provided within the artist statement, your application will be considered incomplete.

*What is an artist statement?

An artist’s statement (or artist statement) is an artist’s written description of their work. The brief verbal representation is for, and in support of, their own work to give the viewer understanding. Not the artist’s bio or resume.

Images of your work cannot have a signature, your name, a watermark or anything that will indicate who the artist isIf any of these are indicated in the images provided, your application will be considered incomplete.

All submission should have the following information per image

  • ·         Gallery Price ( This is the dollar amount including the gallery’s percentage)

 

All artwork must be for sale and must have a minimum price of $1000, unless it is a series meant to be sold together but can be sold separately. (Example: A quadtych series for $250 each or $1000 for the series.) Maximum price cap is $8000 with the exception of series or installations that can be sold separately.  (Example: Installation valued at $10,000 but each piece sold separately is $1000 each.)

Jewelry must have a minimum price of $150 unless it is a series meant to be sold together but can be sold separately. (Example: A pair of earrings from the series can be sold for $50 Necklace for $100 or $150 for the series.)  Due to limited security, we do not encourage jewelry created with precious stones such as diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds. If your jewelry is accepted, you will be responsible for your own displays.

Maximum dimensions for 2D work is 3’x5’ (36”x60”) NO LARGER (Horizontally 36”, Vertically 60”)
Maximum dimensions for  3D work is 8′ (we will not provide pedestals for display pieces wider than 18″ or heavier than 4lbs. Artist will be required to assemble any 3D pieces that must be put together

As stated above, once accepted as a participating artist, there is an additional $50 exhibition fee. Information will be emailed to the accepted artists.

If the submitted artwork becomes unavailable, the artist must contact the coordinators immediately. The jurors can view a replacement similar to the style. The jurors have the right to accept or reject the new work.

Artist agrees to provide quality and tasteful work that best represents the format of CONTINUUM PB Art Fair.  All art must be ready to hang or install. The committee can reject any work if not presentation ready. (Must be framed, have hanging devices, be gallery wrapped and edges treated and painted. No cracks, sloppy edges, or incomplete work will be accepted. Any work not presentation ready will be rejected. It is recommended that acrylic and not glass is used in the framing. Artwork must be labeled on the back with the artist name, title medium & gallery price.

For the last 6 years we have done everything from painted sneakers, masquerade masks to painted canvases for our fundraisers.

The New Studio for The Visual Arts shares a Call to Artists for an upcoming exhibition and benefit for the American Cancer Society. “POP! In honor of the men and women who have touched our lives and fought a battle with cancer, The New Studio for the Visual Arts of Jupiter, Inc. presents “POP! Power of Pink!” A specially tailored juried art exhibition to benefit the American Cancer Society.

 

 

We have all had loved ones who have been affected by cancer and these chapters of their lives are tough, to say the least. The New Studio for the Visual Arts believes we can help make a positive impact through art. POP! Power of Pink” was created based on the inspiration “How do you see pink as powerful?”

 

 

Using color to draw inspiration and power from, artists can submit work in oil, watercolor, pastel, graphite, mixed media and photography. Three-dimensional works in sculpture and jewelry are also accepted. Three awards of merit will be given in the cash prize of $300 each, in addition three honorable mentions will also be awarded in certificates. Sue Archer will serve as juror.

 

Submission fee are as follows: $35 for one image, $45 for two images, $55 for three images.

Exhibition submission process is being conducted through Juried Art Services.

Located in historic downtown Stuart, the Arts Council of Martin County has been a leader in the arts community since 1980. By providing services to visual and performing artists, arts organizations, students and the public, the Arts Council strives to inspire participation and passion for the arts in our community. Meet Harry  

 

 

 

 

Harry, with his beautiful long hair and round cheek-pads, is a fully-flanged adult male orangutan. Harry’s background was in the entertainment business in California for a few years, but most recently he lived in Central Florida before finding a permanent home at CGA. With his sweet and agreeable disposition, Harry is charming his new caregivers and has been particularly interested in watching the noisy chimpanzees nearby. He’s eating very well now and has started to explore the grounds in our aerial trailway chutes.

 

CGA is the ONLY accredited sanctuary for orangutans in the United States. It offers a permanent home to more than 50 orangutans and chimpanzees and receives no government funding.  

 

 

Say “hello” to Marco

 

 

 

Marco is the oldest great ape at the sanctuary and arrived here in November 2005 after living alone for 30 years in a tiny, backyard cage in South Carolina.

He was born in the wilds of Africa. When his mother was shot and killed by poachers, Marco was taken to be sold and shipped to North America. He ended up with a circus family and performed in a small traveling circus in Oklahoma. When the circus trainers bought him, he had rickets (a nutritional deficiency of vitamin D). The rickets possibly affected his development and overall size because Marco is the smallest adult male chimpanzee most people have ever seen.

At 55 years old, Marco weighs only about 80 pounds (a full-grown, adult male weighs 145 to 180 pounds in captivity). People sometimes think he looks like a miniature gorilla because Marco has a very square-shaped hip and rear end stance with a lot of silver hair on his back.

When his circus owners retired, they sold the other chimpanzees in their act, but kept Marco as a pet since he was the youngest and smallest. So, for the next 30 years, he lived alone at their home never seeing another chimpanzee. When he arrived at the Center for Great Apes, he was very nervous around the other chimps, but eventually was successfully introduced to Butch, another wild-caught, older ex-circus chimpanzee. Butch and Marco are now the best of friends and don’t like to be parted from each other.

You are invited to enter the 7th annual ENDANGERED Fine Art & Photography Contest. This global, juried, online art contest aims to focus attention on the plight of endangered and threatened species/habitats. The challenge is to interpret or reflect ENDANGERED through either:

 

  • Celebration of the beauty of endangered/threatened species/habitats

  • Illustration of the threats facing endangered species/habitats

 

Please note – species do not have to be formally listed as endangered in order to be eligible for this contest as long as an element of threat exists.  

The Categories for entry are:

 

  • Fine Art (including sculpture, jewelry and wearable art)

 

  • Fine Art Photography (digital manipulation accepted)

  • Young Artists (birthdays on or after October 1st, 2000)

 

We encourage creativity in interpretation and communication of the theme.  

We see photography as a form of art and are happy to receive digitally manipulated photographs.

CALENDAR GUIDELINES FOR 2020 SUBMISSIONS

Judging of submissions will be in two phases – digital jpeg submissions for the first round and actual paintings, unframed, for the second round. 

Your own digital photo in high resolution may be submitted in a jpeg format, or you may have your submission scanned at Southeastern Printing. (Artists are responsible for scanning fees.)

• 300 dpi image, 10” wide horizontal, RGB color & jpeg format.  No frame or glass should be included.

Final judging will be from original artwork. Slides, photos, or other reproductions will not be considered in the second review.
