Questions? Lindsey@Art4Apes.com

Art4Apes ensures that your art will be viewed by an expert panel with a commitment to endangered species and their habitats.  Each year we have three or four inspirational judges:  a photographer, an art expert and a conservationist/animal rights supporter.

Judges are asked to score each entry in terms of the following criteria:

1. Creativity

2. Success in reflecting the theme of “ENDANGERED”

3. Artistic skill/Photographic quality/Technique

Each judge votes on all categories and the scores are summed to decide the winners.

This year we are honored and grateful to have a particularly exciting and appropriate panel to view your work.   We are proud to announce the international jury panel for the 10th annual ENDANGERED Fine Art & Photography Contest 2022 – Bruce Helander, Ron Magill, Frans B. M. de Waal, and Philip Wollen. They’re looking forward to reviewing all the entries.

MEET     THE     JURORS:

BRUCE HELANDER

Art4Apes welcomes back Bruce Helander to the jury panel. Bruce is an art critic, arts writer, curator, and artist whose specialty is collage and assemblage. He has a master’s degree in painting from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design, where he later became the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of the college. He is a former White House fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts and has won the South Florida Cultural Consortium fellowship for professional achievement in the visual arts. He is one of two 2014 inductees to the Florida Artists Hall of Fame, Florida’s most prestigious arts and culture honor (the other is musician Tom Petty).

RON MAGILL

Thanks to Ron Magill for joining our panel once again. Ron has worked with wildlife for over 40 years. He is the host of HITN’s national wildlife documentary program, Mundo Salvaje con Ron Magill. As Zoo Miami’s “Goodwill Ambassador,” he has made frequent television appearances on many programs, including National Geographic Explorer, the Discovery Networks, the Today Show, Good Morning America, The Late Show, CBS This Morning, Dateline, and CNN. In addition, as a wildlife photographer and Nikon ambassador, he has written and produced many wildlife articles and award-winning photographs that have appeared in publications and galleries around the world. He has traveled extensively throughout Africa, Asia and Tropical America while developing and directing conservation projects and Emmy-Award-winning documentaries focusing on the wildlife of those regions. Ron’s proudest professional accomplishment is the establishment of the “Ron Magill Conservation Endowment” at the Zoo Miami Foundation.

FRANS B. M. DE WAAL

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Frans B. M. de Waal, a Dutch/American biologist and primatologist known worldwide for his work on the behavior and social intelligence of primates. Dr de Waal is the Charles Howard Candler Professor Emeritus of Primate Behavior in the Department of Psychology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, director of the Living Links Center at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center at Emory, and author of numerous books. His first book, Chimpanzee Politics (1982), compared the schmoozing and scheming of chimpanzees involved in power struggles with that of human politicians. Ever since, de Waal has drawn parallels between primate and human behavior, from peacemaking and morality to culture. He is a member of the United States National Academy of Sciences and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.

PHILIP WOLLEN

Grateful thanks to Philip Wollen for joining our panel. Philip is an Australian philanthropist, environmentalist, and animal rights activist. He is a former Vice-President of Citibank and was also General Manager at Citicorp.

Today, he is a “Venture Capitalist for Good Causes,” supporting some 500 mission-critical projects in 40+ countries that protect children, animals, and the environment.

He awards the annual Kindness Gold Medal & $20,000 Cash Prize to people who have devoted their lives to the service of others. Past recipients include Sir David Attenborough (UK), Dr. Professor T.
