The Poets of the Palm Beaches will host three events in May. All events are open to the public and take place in different parts of Palm Beach County. Some Poetry Readings offer Cash prizes. If you are curious, a beginner, intermediate or advanced poet, this is the organization to get involved with! Contest with cash prizes.

Form is: 5 line ABC
Prompt: Write about your favorite piece of clothing

Open to the public. Original work only.

Third Sunday Reading Rules:

(1) Original work only. (2) One poem per round. (3) No poem more than one 8 1/2 x 11 page, in normal 12-point font. (4) Prose Poems no more than 250 words in normal 12-point font. (5) No introductions please. State your name, the name of your poem, and the form of your poem. All present may enter the contest, which is judged by the featured reader. Submission of a poem automatically conveys permission to print it in this newsletter, on our website and on YouTube if it wins. All rights revert to the authors upon publication. After the first round will be the Special Contest. The same rules apply as just stated, except that it must be the designated FORM. All present who have a poem written in the form may enter the contest, even if they entered the first round contest. For the third round, the same rules apply, or up to 3 poems, if none is over 5 lines. There is no contest for the third round.

Suggested Donation: $2 for members and their guests, $3 for non-members. Free for high school students.

Events take place in different parts of Palm Beach County and are FREE. 2016 EARTH DAY POETRY CONTEST

 

 

We are asking you to submit your Earth Day poems for this special contest. The theme of the poem must be related to the Earth Day cause of love and concern for the planet and all its inhabitants. All forms of poetry are acceptable. Entries must be typed, and printed on one side of 8 ½ X 11 paper, single or double-spaced. No artwork or fancy fonts. Each poem must have a title. Only ONE poem per page, in normal 12-point font. On the top show your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address. Please submit all entries at the same time. There is a maximum of 3 poems per poet. Entry to the Earth Day Contest is free. This contest is open to residents of Palm Beach County only. You must maintain at least a part time residence in Palm Beach County to be eligible. It is open to members and nonmembers of Poets of the Palm Beaches. First Prize: $50, Second Prize: $25, Honorable Mentions. DEADLINE: Postmark: 03/28/16. Keep copies of your poems, as none will be returned. What’s All the BUZZ About Exhibition is Here

“What’s All the Buzz About?” is a Juried Exhibition of contemporary works, that explores the relationship between the artist and the environment.  The spotlight of this exhibition will be on the vital role of the bee in the South Florida eco-system. The exhibition is presented by The Artists of Palm Beach County and ActivistArtistA II .  The exhibition, a benefit for Palm Beach Beekeepers Association, will include a special guest presentation by the PBBA president Al Salopeck.  The Rickie Report knows the BUZZiest place to be is Art on Park Gallery July 11th for the Opening Reception! The exhibition, a benefit for Palm Beach Beekeepers Association, will include a special guest presentation by the PBBA president Al Salopeck. Live music will play a part in the festivities with the Jon Greco Band performing.  This exhibit is sponsored by PureHoney Magazine, who’s editor Steev Rulmann helped jury the exhibition.

Their July General Meeting

 Monday, July 14  7pm 

On Monday July 14 at 7:00 p.m. Artists of Palm Beach County (APBC) member Jean Hutchison will host the APBC General Meeting at her home located at NW 3rd Avenue in Delray Beach. Each year Jean has hosted an event and challenged artist members to share a piece of art.  This occasion is no exception, and she is especially interested in art with unusual techniques.  If you arrive early, Jean will do a tour of her botanical garden.
Visitors will enjoy the wealth of art that fills her home.  Many of her works include portraits of primates.   She will share her fascination with monkeys and answer questions about her own unexpected techniques.  Admission is free for members of APBC, but the general public is invited to attend the event for a $5.00 admission fee.  Payment will be collected at the door and will be applied towards the APBC membership fee, if one wishes to join at the meeting.  If you choose to bring wine, other drinks, or snacks to share it will be appreciated.
To get to the venue take I-95 to Atlantic Avenue and go east .9 miles to Swinton.  Make a left and head north .9 miles to NW 9th Street, west 3 blocks to NW 3rd Avenue.
