Fire Fest is fun-filled, Halloween-themed family event educating the community about prescribed fire and fire safety awareness in Florida! This annual Fall event in meant to increase awareness and appreciation of the park’s unique flora and fauna, recreational opportunities, and rich natural history. While attending Fire Fest, visitors learn how prescribed burning preserves our urban interface, improves habitat for native wildlife and plant species, and replenishes the environment’s nutrients. Many of Florida’s plants and animals, including the iconic Scrub-jay, are dependent on prescribed fire.

During Fire Fest, two prescribed burn demonstrations are led by the Florida Park Service’s District Five Fire Team in full fire-gear and include the ignition of the fire, “brush” trucks ready to spray water, exposition of firefighting hand-tools, and Q & A during and after the burn demonstrations. Other fun activities include live music, roasting marshmallows around the campfire, flaming buckets, live animal demonstrations, arts and crafts, a Spooky Trail, and more! Swamp buggy rides, interactive hayrides, and an ultimate 4 in 1 bounce-house and obstacle course will also be available for additional fees. Inside the Kimbell Education Center, visitors will enjoy interactive exhibits, short films, and arts and crafts activities.

Contact the Kimbell Center for more details about Fire Fest, and learn how you can get involved too! Call 561-745-5551, or email libby.reinert@dep.state.fl.us.

Bryan Jackson

From Zack Jones:

When I first met Bryan, I knew he understood the local music scene and the music industry but he didn’t just like music; he was music. Bryan Jackson was my friend. He was a friend to all of us. He was sincere, kind, funny and always made the best of the bad times. Sadly, Bryan was tragically killed by a drunk driver coming home from a gig with his fellow band mates and friends of the band, Ghost Cat.

After his death, I, along with the remaining members of Ghost Cat wanted to create an event to celebrate Bryan’s life and what he loved most: music. And so, the Bryan Jackson Music Festival was born. This festival is an all-day, all ages event built around unsigned local musicians and bands from near and far. In an industry that has become so tough to get ahead in, this festival brings friends and family of Bryan, hardworking bands, music lovers and supporters of all ages together for a cause.

The Bryan Jackson Music Festival: Episode II will be held on Saturday, January 9th 2016 at Harbour Pointe Park located on the Indian River in Fort Pierce, Florida from 11:00 a.m.until Midnight. The event will benefit Learn to Read of St. Lucie County. The day will be packed with 35 Musicians and Bands of all genres across 3 stages, with an assortment of Craft and Art Vendors, Food Trucks, a Skate Ramp and activities for the children such as a bounce house, big jump and a giant art mural.

3,000 attendees and participants came out to support this event in its inaugural year in 2015 so on behalf of Bryan’s parents, his brother, his band, and the local music scene of the Treasure Coast, we invite you to participate in the Bryan Jackson Music Festival: Episode II. We have included Sponsorship and Vendor Opportunities for you to consider. Please contact Candace Callahan for more sponsor and vendor information.
