“Morikami Summer” by Jerry Gotkin

The Gotkin Art Studio was opened in Manhattan’s Upper West Side in 1963. In 2007, the Smithsonian Institution American Art Museum and Portrait Gallery Libraries in Washington, D.C. established a catalogue: “Marjorie and Jerry Gotkin Collection 1965-2007” that includes reproductions of their works, exhibitions, reviews, contracts and biographies. This talented individual has designed art for Off-Broadway productions, Bank of America, Copeland Davis (jazz pianist) and many more. Most recently, several works from his Morikami series have been installed at the Vitas Community Life Center in Delray Beach.

“Orchids Compilation” by Jerry Gotkin

Jerry slowly migrated to Florida from Brooklyn New York, where he was born in 1936. He received a Master’s Degree from Columbia and he also briefly studied at the Brooklyn Museum in the 50’s. His work focuses on various uses of oils, pastels, pen, ink, watercolors, acrylics, and fine-art photography.  After meeting his wife in 1961, they moved to Cape Cod where they opened their first art studio. By 1963, they moved to the Upper West Side in Manhattan and opened the Gotkin Art Studio. Additionally, his work was featured in the Panoras Gallery and he was commissioned to do a series of paintings of the New York skyline for the Sperry Rang Building. In recent years, he has had his artwork on display at the Hollywood Memorial Hospital, Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton, Morikami Museum, Golden Anchor Art Gallery, Banker’s Trust Corporate branch, and on Atlantic Avenue.

“Cloud And Water Guest” by Jerry Gotkin

Additionally, Jerry has published five arts books, “The Gardens of Hospice by the Sea”, “The Tall Ships Watercolors/Gouache The Art of Marjorie Gotkin”, “Still Life/Floral Watercolor/Gouache: The Art of Marjorie Gotkin”, “Marjorie’s Table: The Material and Instruments of Art as Art, “Orchids: An Intimate Portrait of Beauty”, and Morkiami Pen and Ink Drawings.

“Orchids” by Jerry Gotkin

The Cape Cod Standard Times has said that “The series of oil on paper of the land and seascapes places him as a modern day Impressionist.”

Cox.  The public is invited to a Free Opening Reception at ArtServe on December 2nd.  Stop by, get your book signed and immerse yourself in Jen’s world!

Artist, Jen Walls

How the book came to be…

“I met poet, Mary W. Cox in North Carolina several years ago at a gallery crawl and we just CLICKED. She’s been creating haiku poetry in response to my art ever since.  Tiny, with sparkling eyes and a quick wit, she enchanted me. I didn’t know her and she didn’t know me. And yet our creative spirits called out to each other and then ran off to play together like lifelong friends. I believe this book was born in that first magical meeting when the universe winked at us”.

“We decided that creating a book together would be fun. Wouldn’t you know, a few weeks later I received a marketing email from Susan, a digital storyteller and book designer. After a brief video chat, we decided it was a perfect fit. She handled all the technology and design aspects (i.e.: we told her “oh, I wish it kinda looked like this…” and she made it happen!) and within three weeks we had a sample copy in our hands! They don’t call her the “art godmother” for no reason! Susan is amazing to work with, and she works remotely quite efficiently”.

(by poet Mary W. Cox)

The book was compiled by Susan Nicolai of EyeSusan. Susan’s business is digital storytelling for artists, and she specialized in books, ebooks, interactive content and videos.

About Jen Walls:

Sometimes the road to an artist’s “true north” isn’t a direct or even an obvious one. Jen Walls, has lived life on her own terms and forged a path that has led her to new creative heights.  She left a career as a banking executive to focus on raising a family with her husband, Ron, and to pursue her vision as an artist.   After a friend asked her to attend an art class, Jen experienced her “ah-ha” moment.

“Go Fly A Kite” by Jen Walls

“The experience was a revelation of sorts,” Jen shares. “It’s amazing what can happen when you start saying ‘yes’ to new options  and step outside of  your comfort zone.”  Jen’s’ mother is a respected traditional watercolor artist but, while her creative influence is apparent, the stylistic approach of the daughter comes from another place entirely.  “What I do could be referred to as ‘outsider art,’” Jen says. “I never preplan and I regularly break the rules. I have complete freedom.”

“Chloe And The Reluctant Steed” by Jen Walls

Jen draws inspiration from a variety of sources, including shamanic folklore and primitive cultures. One particular trek to Portland, Oregon presented an opportunity to spend significant time with a person who drastically influenced her.  “I was attending a wedding and found that the groom was an anthropologist,” she said. “He offered to put me in touch with a Native American chief. I was very careful and respectful during our time together and I was able to learn so much about their culture…I was absolutely inspired!”

Yepa and the Magic Blanket

“Yea and the Magic Blanket” by Jen Walls

Jen, who makes her home in Plantation,FL, believes that it is important to make time for whatever your ‘calling’ may be and to nurture it so that life can be fulfilling and free of many frustrations that can manifest when people neglect their creative urges.  Best known for her ink and watercolor work that incorporates tribal patterns, symbolism and primitive markings, the Jen teaches mark making and doodling via the Ciel Gallery in Charlotte, which offers original fine art from local artists plus workshops.

“Rabbit Malarky” by Jen Walls

Jen is active in the local art scene, promoting her work through art exhibits and pop-up shows. She contributes to a Miami, Florida organization that supports the Center for Great Apes.  The group provides a permanent sanctuary for orangutans and chimpanzees who have been rescued or retired from the entertainment industry, from research or who are no longer wanted as pets.

Suzanne Connors
Fiber

http://www.ayafiberstudio.com

I love art and I have always enjoyed making art. After trying many different mediums, I always return to fiber and textile art.  As a seamstress and a designer, textiles have always intrigued me; especially if the fiber has a beautiful texture that makes you want to reach out and touch it! I love layering color and combining different tactile fibers.

haeconnors2

Hand Dyed One of A Kind Scarf by Susan Connors

What I love about fiber art is the surprise element – the mixture of the fabric, the dye and the resist create different combinations and patterns that are only revealed at the final step. The magic when the freshly dyed indigo comes out of the vat and turns from green to blue right before your eyes!  It is always a surprise when I unwrap a freshly dyed piece of fabric! Like opening a Christmas Gift! Another thing I love about fiber is that there are no “mistakes”!  It is just like life; everything is always subject to change, and the mistakes lead to growth in my art.  The imperfections are all part of the creative process. I typically use African Adinka symbols as inspirations in my batik prints and create my own stamps.  I am always learning new techniques and experimenting with them. Every piece created is a unique one of a kind original!

Sarah LaPierre
Painting

Thick paint is a collection of work created by award winning artist Sarah LaPierre. Palette knives and heavy bodied acrylic paints provide the full textures and vibrant colors that are characteristics of her style. Sarah gains her inspiration from the beautiful sceneries throughout her home state of Florida, with special focus skyward. Her late father, artist Joseph LaPierre remains the strongest influence in her creative ventures.

Sarah’s artwork can be found globally in the homes of her many patrons, brightening the walls of professional offices and businesses, as well as locally through gallery events and showcases at fine arts festivals throughout south Florida.  Sarah’s wearable art and high end fashions were recently seen on the runway in New York City.

Candles

Blue Flame Candles are handmade with meticulous attention to every detail. We use a soy-blend wax, cotton wicks and no added dye. What sets Blue Flame apart from other candles is exceptional fragrance. Being true luxury candles, they have amazing fragrance throw and a slow, beautiful, complete burn.  Being a connoisseur of richly fragrant luxury candles and getting tired of paying exorbitant prices for them, I set out to learn how to create them. It took a great amount of work, many months of research, and hours of daily testing before my benchmark of product excellence was achieved.

The Gem and Mineral Society of the Palm Beaches was founded in 1966 as a club for like-minded individuals who shared a passion for gems, minerals, the lapidary arts and geological sciences. 50 years later it still serves residents of Palm Beach County with those interests and more. At the clubs workshop one can find a variety of work being done – from silversmithing to cutting and polishing precious and semiprecious gemstones.  At meeting, members spread knowledge and fellowship for members of all ages. The youngest of the club members are mentored in the junior rockhound program with activities specially crafted just for them.
