The 2014 Featured Artist is Gail Markiewicz, a Master Clay artist who originates from central Connecticut.   Gail tells The Rickie Report, ” My fourth grade teacher asked each of us what we wanted to be when we grew up and without hesitation I decided that I would become an artist. As the years passed my convictions only grew stronger.  It seemed it was not only a vocation, but some inner calling that I could not deviate from”.

After having tried sculptural forms of art, Gail began to create beautiful, nonfunctional vessels and she has continued this art form since 1985.   She explains, “Probably the biggest link from the beginning of my work until now has been my love for textures and pattern.  I have combined textured pieces of clay and juxtaposed them into interesting positions to form a patchwork design.  The shape of the vessels are very striking.  The colors highlight the surfaces creating a feeling of antiquity and futuristic dimension embodied in each vessel”.

Yoram Gal Featured at HotWorks.org Event

Art festivals often announce their dates and venues with colorful posters.  When The Rickie Report saw what HotWorks.org led by Patty Norozny, chose for the Boca Raton Fine Art Show January 19th & 20th, we were impressed not only by the art but by the quality of the printing. You can actually see the brush strokes used by international actor and artist, Yoram Gal to bring brilliance to the page!  Here, we highlight his work and know this show will be exciting!

Yoram Gal was born in Jerusalem  in 1952.  He grew up and was educated in both London and Tel-Aviv.  Gal began painting at age 12 and has been exhibiting his artwork since age13.  At the young age of  accepted to Art College at 15 but decided against it. He  attended Tel-Aviv University graduating with Honors BFA in Theater acting and directing.

Since 1977, Yoram has written plays for stage and screen, directs, acts and produces shows in his Traveling Theater. He is an actor in Israeli, British and American movies.  In addition, he designs theatrical scenery and exhibits shows of his paintings.  Yoram has lived and works in Old Jaffa since 1978.  A prolific artist, he has had fourteen One-Man exhibitions of his paintings.

Participating in international film festivals, his feature film, “WILD” which he wrote and directed won 1st prize for Best Feature Film in Picciano, Italy, 2001.  That same year, he co-wrote  a play with Nili Dolan, “The Old Man & I” which won the Israeli Prime Minister’s Prize.  In 2009, his first illustrated e-book was published, “The Secret of America” and is available on Amazon.

Yoram has been invited to participate in many art events in the USA 2002-2011, & the Firenze Biennale, Italy 2005 as well as the Beijing International Art Expo, China 2011.  In August, 2011, the Fu ZheNan Museum in Nanjin, China, acquired 12 major pieces.  The next year,  at the Biennale at Stanback museum SC, 5 major works were acquired.  Gal has received  31 awards in American Art shows between 2004 and 2012.

He tells us that his main influences include “Gauguin, Van Gogh, Picasso, Mattisse, Bacon, Miro, Hockney, Nolde, Munk, Ensor, Bruegel, Michelangelo, Kandinsky, De Kooning, Turner, Bonnard, Daumier, Soutine, Nahum Guttman, Fima and the Expressionists”.

Yoram Gal gives us a synopsis of his artist’s view:  “In Hamlet’s words: “To hold a mirror up to nature”: Paint as wide a range of modern life’s rich diversity as I can, capturing fleeting moments of dramatic, comic and lyrical interactions between people. Juicifying the changing landscapes of our times on paper and canvas, stretching the styles of painting from realism to abstract, through my own expressionism. Experimenting in dangerous non-comfort zones, striving to go beyond my previous piece into something I did not know before. Starting from scratch, daily, working at re-inventing my painting like a child. Having fun celebrating my decades on earth in the most colorful, joyful and intense way I can. Joie-de-vivre is my motto.”     For more information about the artist, yoramgal.co.il    USA cell  480-993-4198  Israel cell 052-3943410.  Studio – 19 Netiv Hamazalot   Old Jaffa 68037 Israel  972-3-6813274
