Join us on Tuesday, March 3rd  from 5:30 to 7:30 pm to celebrate the work of our students during the opening reception.  At 6:00 pm, we begin the presentation of annual scholarship awards for students at the Art School. Each month the Art School presents a selections of artworks created in our studios. Students from every class are invited to participate in one exhibit each year, including beginners, intermediate, and advanced students.

 

This year’s awards include:

  • Award to young artists* in recognition of exceptional improvement in artistic accomplishment, presented by Milton Bagley
  • Milton and Florence Hoffman Awards for Sculpture
  • Lila Lewenthal Awards for Jewelry and Enameling

*Youth scholarship support is generously given by Joan and Milton Bagley in honor of Norman Geller, a long-time member of the Boca Raton Museum of Art’s Board of Directors.

Workshop instructor, Genie Appel-Cohen, has been a practicing Buddhist, an art teacher, and an award winning artist for over 25 years. CENSORSHIP IN THE ARTS

 

 

 

 

 

From Michelangelo to Mapplethorpe, works of art have been banned by both religious groups and the law. Many formerly taboo subjects now seem quaint. This workshop explores the history of censorship (both political and sexual) and its contemporary manifestations in an open forum with everyone encouraged to share their views.

FUNDAMENTALS OF PERSPECTIVE DRAWING

 

 

 

 

 

 

Learn the fundamentals of 1, 2, and 3-point perspective while drawing still life, interior and outdoor environments with buildings. Applying the rules of perspective in cityscapes and architectural details, properly using tonal value, light sources, and cast shadows. Discover the principles and techniques of atmospheric perspective that enhances distance. Students will complete the projects using pencil, ink, and/or charcoal.

LEARN HOW TO MIX COLORS USING ACRYLIC PAINT

 

 

 

 

Achieve greater control over your color mixing. Using values, complimentary colors, and neutral greys you will find that perfect color you are seeking when you are painting. We will be training your artists eye to better discern the color we are actually seeing, and introduce a foolproof way of reproducing it on canvas.

MIXED MEDIA MONOPRINTING

 

 

 

 

 

This workshop is a fun one-day session creating beautiful and fast monotype prints. We will use Acrylics on Gelli plates to create realistic or abstract artistic works. Learn how to ink the plates, paint on the plates and print from the plates using unique materials and techniques. Absolutely no artistic painting experience is required for the class. Student will leave with amazing prints that can stand alone or be incorporated into other art works.

Did you always want to paint, but were unsure about your skills with a brush? Instructor, Genie Appel-Cohen will show you all the techniques to create your own art masterpieces. In this not-to-be-missed workshop, you will learn blending, build-up, and scrape down techniques. We will cover simple color theory and composition. Create the art that’s in your heart, with oil pastels! Materials included. 45 minute break for lunch.

  • Create unique and beautiful floral blossoms using a variety of materials including watercolors and acrylics. No artistic painting experience required.

  • Take your drawings to a new place with water soluble graphite, watercolor pencils, and/or Inktense pencils and aqua brushes. Learn to use color selectively and with restraint for maximum effect. Graphite pencils, erasers, bristol paper and aqua brushes will be included. Color pencils will be available.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • 10:00 am – 3:00 pm… Figure Painting, A Comprehensive Study – Roumen Boudev
  • Learn how to paint the anatomical structure of the human form while properly mixing the skin tones and applying the principles of color theory. Emphasis is placed on the properties of color, cool and warm color variations, and representing textures. Our objective is to complete a finished figure painting study, while exploring the traditional old masters’ painting methods and techniques.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • ​10:00 am – 4:00 pm..Basic Watercolor Painting – Janet Onofrey
  • Using still lifes as subjects, students will explore basic color usage, brushes, and paper. We will experiment with gradient washes, sponging, scratching, dry brushing, masking, wet-on-wet and more. The Basic session will make you comfortable using this medium and enjoy the flow of color. Some drawing ability is helpful. (Bring lunch for a half hour break.)

  • Using a live nude model students will develop a single composition from 3 to 4 poses. The emphasis will be on how to put these poses together using the same model to form a composition.   • 10:00 am – NOON..Impact of Van Gogh’s Letters – Ralph Papa
  • 2:00 – 4:00 pm… Impact of Van Gogh’s LettersRalph Papa
  • In this 2 hour presentation of slides and demos, Ralph Papa will cover the impact that Vincent Van Gogh’s letters have had on him personally as well as on the world at large. Through images of selected letters, drawings and paintings, Papa will provide a personal understanding and insight into the mind and work of Van Gogh as if he himself were sitting beside us.

Ocean Ridge’s new Town Manager, “Jamie” Titcomb embraced the idea of using Town Hall for Exhibitions that would encourage the residents of Ocean Ridge and their neighbors to meet and exchange the news of the day in a pleasant cultural environment. Town Hall is also the setting for a Lecture Series on a broad number of topics, a monthly Book Club, and Garden Club Programs.
