Lighthouse ArtCenter Lunch And Learn Series Presents Artist, Lecturer And Cultural Envoy Helen Zughaib

The Lighthouse ArtCenter is privileged and honored to have Helen Zughaib speak at the February 21st Lunch and Learn event. Whether lecturing at Harvard University’s Center of Government and International Studies, a foreign embassy, or at one of the many galleries that exhibit her work, Helen Zughaib promotes the message that “art can be an agent of change.” Although she does not consider herself a political artist, Helen believes that the arts are one of the most important tools we have to help shape and foster dialogue and positive ideas between the Middle East and the United States. Her work and dynamic presentations have Helen in high demand at galleries and institutions around the world. The Rickie Report shares the details and some sneak peeks here. Get your tickets now!

Helen Zughaib: Art as an Agent of Change

Tickets: $75

Lighthouse ArtCenter Gallery

“Blind Charity” by Helen Zughaib

Helen is an internationally recognized artist, lecturer and cultural envoy. Her work can be found in galleries and museums in the United States, Europe and Lebanon and her paintings are included in many private and public collections, including the White House, World Bank, Library of Congress, the U.S. Consulate General, Vancouver, Canada, the American Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, the Arab American National Museum and the DC Art Bank Collection.

“Figs and Raisins” by Helen Zughaib

She was recently awarded a grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and currently included in the new Washingtonia Collection, in Washington DC. Her works have been included in several Art in Embassy exhibitions abroad including Brunei, Nicaragua, Mauritius, Iraq, Belgium and Lebanon.  “Art crosses borders of all kinds, religious, geographic and racial boundaries,” Helen states. “I think art begins conversation in an open and non-threatening way, so that opinions can be changed and grow even if it is just a little bit to try to see another side, to put oneself in an another’s shoes, to be empathetic.”

“Migration #1” by Helen Zughaib

In addition to her work as a painter and lecturer, Helen served as U.S. Cultural Envoy through the U.S. Department of State to Palestine, where she led a month-long workshop with Palestinian women artists from the West Bank. In 2009, she visited Switzerland and France, under the U.S. Department of State’s Speaker and Specialist Program, sharing her work with universities and schools. In October 2016, she traveled to Saudi Arabia as U.S. Cultural Envoy, speaking to young Saudi women artists. Her paintings have been gifted to heads of state.
