Kinetic Art Events with Elayna Toby are Open to the Public and FREE
The public is invited to transform an historic tree into a kinetic sculpture! The FREE EVENTS will take place on NOVEMBER 1st, 8th, & 15th. A majestic kapok tree in east Boynton Beach will be temporarily transformed into a kinetic sculpture by led local kinetic artist Elayna Toby, and everyone is invited to participate in the creative process. Three FREE “community creating” events will be held at the Boynton Beach City Library’s program room, 208 S. Seacreast Blvd. Come by anytime between 10am and 1pm. Simply bring small objects you’d like to re-purpose into art that will hang from the tree. Everyone who participates will design a section of the sculpture with the items they bring. Elayna Toby will string together community designed sections into twirling strands that will hang from the tree. A majestic kapok tree in east Boynton Beach will be temporarily transformed into a kinetic sculpture by led local kinetic artist Elayna Toby, and everyone is invited to participate in the creative process.

Three FREE “community creating” events will be held at the Boynton Beach City Library’s program room, 208 S. Seacreast Blvd. Come by anytime between 10am and 1pm. Simply bring small objects you’d like to re-purpose into art that will hang from the tree. Everyone who participates will design a section of the sculpture with the items they bring. Elayna Toby will string together community designed sections into twirling strands that will hang from the tree.
It’s easy and fun to be part of this unique community art project! Simply rummage through your shelves and junk drawers to find small items to upcycle into art such as bells, bits of hardware, old keys, machine or computer parts, gears or other baubles. Everyone is invited to participate. You need not think of yourself as creative or artistic to contribute to this kinetic sculpture.
“I’m excited to see the special kapok tree transformed into kinetic art with the community’s discarded and found objects,” says kinetic artist Elayna Toby. “I love seeing the surprise on people’s faces when they realize it’s fun and not hard to create something artistic with ordinary items they have around the house.”
Participants will also have the opportunity to create “video selfies” about their unique objects and the artistic compositions they create during each event. A video, showcasing the hundreds of community participants who contributed items that make up Kinetic-Connections, will be featured adjacent to the transformed tree during the International Kinetic Art Exhibition and Symposium that will be held February 6-8, 2015.
Kinetic-Connections will be a temporary installation taken down at the end of the symposium, leaving the tree in its original state, as if untouched. The strands, inspired by and generated from the community, will then be “recycled” back into the world, made available for sale as decorations for home or garden. A portion of the proceeds from sales of these strands will benefit the City of Boynton Beach Art in Public Places program and Resource Depot. Kinetic artist Elayna Toby was commissioned by the City of Boynton Beach/Art in Public Places to create Kinetic-Connections as part of the 2015 International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium.

“The most exciting part of Kinetic-Connections for us is the community involvement in creating an interactive site specific installation.” Says Debby Coles-Dobay, Boynton Beach’s Public Arts Manager and chief coordinator of the of the International Kinetic Art Exhibition and Symposium. Kinetic-Connections is brought to you by Elayna Toby Art, in partnership with the 2015 International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium, the City of Boynton Beach/Art in Public Places, and Resource Depot.
With a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology and an M.S. in Public Horticulture Administration and Museum Management, Elayna Toby’s interests are as varied as her artwork which is currently on exhibition at OSGS Gallery in West Palm Beach’s Northwood section. Internationally, she was invited by Habla: The Center for Language and Culture, to lead a “natural mobiles” workshop at Park Aak, an ecological park in Mexico.
