Caren Hackman‘s passion for the peaceful and restorative aspects of yoga shows in her newest paintings!  The Palm Beach Gardens’ GardensArt Project features Caren’s “The Art of Yoga” at the Burns Road Recreation Center. Caren Hackman tells The Rickie Report, “My deep spiritual connection to the yoga practice set me on the course for creating the YogaPainter works. A painful injury sidelined me for several years during which I felt angry and depressed. Yoga saved my life! As I learned more about the physical aspects of yoga, a personal evolution, a catharsis, began. Yoga practice help me recover and re-engage with life. As the spiritual essence of the practice became clear, I was drawn to share that passion through my art”.

 

 

 

 

This spiritually motivated series resists the confines of framed canvas and is hung like a classic Asian scroll. The yoga pieces are all on canvas.  Caren’s personal yoga practice helps her feel more connected to the natural world. “Creation of art work that combines challenging poses with images of the nature’s leafy growth or the eclipse comes almost instinctively to me. I hope you find inspiration from this and spread the joy of inner peace”.

Caren Hackman’s paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout Florida, including the Port St. Lucie, Boynton Beach and Palm Beach Gardens City Halls, Lighthouse Artcenter, Cornell Museum of Art and History, Delray Beach; The Visual Arts Center of Northwest Florida, Panama City; the Ritter Gallery, Boca Raton;  The Arts Center, St. Petersburg; Barrier Island Group for the Arts, Sanibel Island; and the Global Gallery, Tampa. In addition her work has been shown at the Neville Public Museum, Green Bay, Wisconsin; the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, Santa Ana, California; the Spirit Echoes Gallery, Austin, Texas; and University of Mobile, Mobile, Alabama.

In 2010 Caren was awarded an Artist in Residence position by Necedah National Wildlife Refuge in Wisconsin. In 2005 she was awarded the Artist in Residence position at the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site in West Branch, Iowa.  Ms. Hackman’s work is represented in numerous collections, including those of The Facial Pain Association, Gainesville, FL, Roger Dean, Palm Beach, FL, Equitable Life, West Palm Beach, FL; Northwood University, West Palm Beach, FL; Lake Wales Medical Center, Lake Wales, FL; and A.H. Fisher Diamonds, Red Bank, NJ.  She maintains a studio in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. She enjoys teaching workshops and welcomes commissioned work.

 

 

 

 

Locally, Caren is well-known for her tireless dedication to numerous community projects, including founding the City of Palm Beach Gardens GardensArt program and illustrating the life of George Morikami for the Morikami Museum. Her task force and committee contributions, to name just a few, include the Norton Museum of Art, ArtServe, Armory Art Center, Boys and Girls Club Gators Galore, SunFest, and Palm Beach Community College Campus Art Gallery and founding Artists of Palm Beach County.

Founded in 1989, the GardensArt program is a unique program that exhibits the work of locally and nationally recognized professional artists and photographers. It was established to increase the opportunities for cultural exchange between artists and the community. The rotating exhibits are loaned to the city for approximately 6 to 8 weeks and provide contact with a broad spectrum of high quality artwork through varied techniques and mediums. GardensArt has earned and maintained an exceptional reputation among professional artists and the community as a whole. Harriet Silverstein is a widely exhibited visual artist, maintaining her studio at Fat Village in Fort Lauderdale. Born in Syosset, New York, she received her B.A. from Brown University and her M.A. in Fine Arts from the State University of New York at Albany with honors. After finishing graduate studies in art, she was awarded the State University of New York International Fellowship to France, where she enrolled in the Academie Des Beaux Arts in Strasbourg.

 

 

Her artwork provides the viewer with a bold, graphic element from a distance but, up close they are rewarded with rich, organic details, intricate textures and complex contrasts. Harriet’s artistic goal is to produce a world that is compelling for its own visual uniqueness and a celebration of visual experience. Her intention is to create art that the viewer can enjoy repeatedly, so that the color relationships, forms, textures and visual elements fully reveal themselves with multiple viewings.

Lauderdale, inspiring visual artists to “Conquer the Changing Marketplace.” This weekend long business development workshop will give professional working artists the chance to take a deep dive into the business side of their art careers. Scheduled for February 1 and 2, 2019, the event is funded in part by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners through the Broward Cultural Council. Everything has a name. Everything has a story.

In Loden, coming of age means becoming an apprentice. Though all of the villagers expect Arella’s sister to become the storyteller’s apprentice, it is Arella who is chosen.

When Arella is forced to leave her childhood home and face her biggest fears, she follows an unexpected path of adventure, hardship, and enchantment. She learns to appreciate the power in a name and the importance of sharing stories. Along the way, Arella accepts her own talents and learns to see the beauty and the magic around her.

Every story begins with…another story~

This adventure began with one artist inviting another to collaborate. “I’ll paint some backgrounds; you add characters,” said Brit. “Well sure, I’d be delighted,” replied Jen. A dozen boards and a nearly a year later, Brit and Jen decided the characters needed a story. In stepped Dana, who accepted the challenge of writing a story after the illustrations were already done—a backwards process. She took over like a mad queen and convinced the illustrators to provide more illustrations because, she said, the story demanded them. The illustrators, enchanted by the stories, bowed to her requests, although the thought of stuffing the author into an attic occurred to them more than once.

In her younger days, writer Dana Kumerow was a tree-climbing, frog-catching, star-gazing book worm who acted out her favorite stories in the playhouse in her backyard. Today she lives in a tiny log cabin in the North Carolina mountains and blogs about words, books, writing, and more at writingtowardhome.com.

Upon receiving her degree in studio art, Brittany Tate set out with a fierce determination to set the world ablaze. After completing her first landscape in 2015, she began filling her world with colorful drama, exotic places, and playful pets. She’s hardly put down her brush since!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Artist and illustrator Jen Walls lives in a world of malarkey. Her studio is crammed with whimsical creatures, moody queens, and soulful girls. Walls has lived a backwards life, beginning with a grown-up job and all kinds of seriousness until she was nearly old—then SHAZAM!
