During this three-hour session, live models pose draped for short gesture, as well as longer poses. This program is ideal for individuals interested in portrait painting, character design, illustration, animation, anatomical drawing, however, ALL artists benefit from Life Drawing sessions.

In this workshop, participants will create using multiple materials: dry media, wet media, collage, fabric, random objects, anything goes!

Use a mixture of materials of your choice in this workshop; learn multi-media tips and techniques with color, texture, and a variety of surfaces. Explore the endless possibilities of mixed media art.

The Clark Hulings Fund for Visual Artists (CHF) announces its Art Business Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, inspiring visual artists to “Conquer the Changing Marketplace.” This weekend long business development workshop will give professional working artists the chance to take a deep dive into the business side of their art careers. Scheduled for February 1 and 2, 2019, the event is funded in part by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners through the Broward Cultural Council. Eco Printing is contact printing of plants onto fabric. In this 3 Day Eco Print workshop intensive you will learn about plants, fabrics, equipment, processes and bundling techniques. Silk and wool fabrics have an affinity for plants and create fantastic prints. This workshop is perfect for fiber artist, feltmakers, dyers and art quilters. No experience necessary, just a willingness to experiment and enjoy the bounties of nature. Some hand strength is needed to create bundles. This workshop is designed to learn essentials to carry printing at home.

  • Day 1 Introduction – A discussion about what is Eco printing, what type of fabrics necessary, the equipment, materials, solutions and processes that are used for successful prints. A demonstration of how to make a bundle is given and balance of the day students make bundles. An indigo vat will be available, some fabrics are dipped for printing on day 2

Suzanne explains to The Rickie Report, “What I love about fiber art is the surprise element – the mixture of the fabric, the dye and the resist create different combinations of results that are only revealed at the final step…the magic when the freshly dyed indigo comes out of the vat and turns from green to blue right before your eyes! It is always a surprise when I unwrap a freshly dyed piece of fabric! I currently specialize in Shibori and Batik. For me, these art forms are an excuse to use vibrant colors and simple shapes to produce designs, without having to worry too much about the details –just as in life, there are no “mistakes” with fiber, and everything is always subject to change. The imperfections are all part of the creative process. I’m always learning new techniques and experimenting so I can share them with my students. Every piece created is a unique one of a kind original!”

The “Magical” Necklace by Susan Nessel, Student At The Armory Art Center

The Rickie Report knows that this time of year is one of flux and change, as people graduate and move onto another road in life’s journey.  The “Magical Necklace” is such a wonderful way to share the legacy of the time shared together. We thank Susan Nessel, a student at the Armory Art Center, for her creativity and willingness to share this lesson of gratitude.

“The Magical Necklace”

 

Susan Nessel is a jewelry designer and metalsmith from Jupiter, FL. She wanted to convey her respect and admiration for her fellow artist and long time friend, Elizabeth Kleiman of Palm Beach, FL by presenting her with a Magical Necklace at a farewell party given in her honor at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach.

 

 

Susanʼs idea was to have Elizabethʼs fellow artists in the Metal, Jewelry and Glass Departments at the Armory Art Center each create an individual bead representing their unique style of work. A necklace was then designed and fabricated by Susan incorporating all of the handmade pieces.  There was so much interest in the project from all of the artists wanting to show support for their fellow artist that the necklace became very long.

The very long Magical Necklace represents not only the respect and admiration for a long time friend by her peers but the true benefit and value of community and sharing in a creative and supportive environment made possible by the Armory Art Center.  Elizabethʼs commitment to the Armory for over 15 years will be greatly missed as she retires to Boston, MA.

Wondering How Other Artists’ Work is Being Shown in Galleries and Exhibits? Attend The Seminar With Rickie, Ilene, and Raquel

Wondering how other artists have their work accepted into galleries?  Arthouse429’s Raquel Williams, Ilene Adams and Rickie Leiter are offering an opportunity to learn how to move your artwork into a more public domain.  Their previous seminar in the Fall, 2014, yielded a gallery contract for one of the attendees and two others had their work accepted into new exhibits ( including an international art show)!  This two-part, inter-active seminar is for emerging as well as established artists.  We’ll look at basics such as business cards, websites and artist statements plus incorporate behind-the-scenes information only a gallerist can share.  The Rickie Report shares the details and looks forward to meeting you at the seminars!

Bobbin Salisbury Offers Demo At Next Wellington Art Society Meeting – New Comers Are Welcome

Bobbin (aka Marilyn) Salisbury is an artist and instructor of Fine Art, FUN Art besides being a published Author and Art Illustrator.  The Wellington Art Society welcomes one of their own to present a demonstration at their next monthly meeting on January 14th.  The public is welcome as well as new and emerging artists.  The Rickie Report knows you will enjoy Bobbin’s artwork and personality.  This is a great opportunity to network with other artists!

The Wellington Art Society membership meeting will be held on January 14, 2015 at 6:30 PM at the Wellington Community Center. There will be a meet and greet, followed by a brief meeting and a watercolor demonstration by Bobbin Salisbury.

Bobbin is a well known local watercolor and acrylic artist. She began as a self taught artist but later studied at the Armory Art Center, the Women of Visual Arts (WITVA) Studio in Delray Beach, private lessons and workshops with well-know artists.

As a child Bobbin began using oils but later switched to watercolors because of the quick drying time and easy cleanup. Her love of boats and the sea came from her Dad taking her down to the docks and dreaming about owning a boat someday. Her paintings are displayed in the Wellington Community Center and City Hall Gallery. She recently had a three month SOLO exhibit at the Wellington Whole Foods Gallery. She won an honorable mention at the summer Art of Association Exhibit at the Lighthouse ArtCenter in Tequesta.

Bobbin tells The Rickie Report, “The Ocean can bring your senses to a wonderful place. When I feel the sand under my feet, smell the salty air, hear the thunder of the surf, or see the rolling waves, my spirit immediately experiences the peace only nature can give. Through this peace I have been inspired to share my ability to use paint brush, paper, paint & of coarse water to create my artwork. The serenity and peace I feel melts my spirit and my personal peace into all my creations”.

Bobbin illustrated a book with Deborah Desser Herchan, “Mumbo Jumbo” (seen below) and has authored and illustrated her own book, “Silly Selma” (seen above).  She is working on the next book in the “Silly Selma” series.

Bobbin teaches Beginning and Intermediate traditional watercolor classes as well as wet on wet techniques in my home, at Jerry’s Artarama in West Palm Beach and at Art & Sea Living Studio.  While she teaches mostly watercolors, she does have a few Acrylic students, learning the basics of painting.

Bobbin also teaches Fun art!  “Paint-A-Party” is class where each student completes a painting in two hours.  She says, ” Come to my classes and you will see. The beauty of the underpainting just creates the most vivid transparencies. The Glazing becomes a natural technique which you can use in any other type of technique!!”  Additionally,Bobbin actively creates ATC (Artist Trading Cards) and Altered Journal books.
