“Nature’s Brush Strokes” by Edward H. Munoz, Juror

Artists were invited to submit all genres, subjects, capture types and photographic processes both historic and modern for this juried photography exhibition. All types of photography mediums including iPhone, Cellphone, Polaroid, and digital prints on any medium were included. Photographs provide many things; proof that something happened, the ability to capture a moment or memories, or as a means of communication. Artists were asked to submit work that was innovative, interesting, artistic or awe-inspiring, and their response has resulted in a powerful show.

Edward H. Munoz, the gallery’s own resident art photographer, is the Judge for this exhibition. As a manufacturing executive, Ed traveled the world and visited stunning locales, met interesting people and saw amazing wonders, all the while amassing a considerable portfolio of photos as part hobby and part stress reliever. After retiring in 2002, editing, matting and framing some of these photos became his retirement project. Over the last 10 years he has endeavored to expand his photography skills under the guidance of such pros as Ken Geiger, a Pulitzer prize winner and National Geographic photographer; E. David Luria of Washington DC photo safari fame, and David Durbak, a well-known architectural photographer here in Florida. Since then he has won numerous awards most recently in the Grassy Waters Photo Contest.
Ed will be presenting First Place, Second Place, and Honorable Mention awards at the Opening Reception on September 13, 2019, 5 – 8 PM. Mark your calendar and make sure to be there.

Most of us have been rejected at one time or another with our submissions for exhibitions. Often it isn’t the actual artwork that is rejected but the way it’s presented. The jpgs you send are important, and Dennis will help you make your artwork look its best.

The Artists of Palm Beach County, Inc. (APBC) in partnership with the Lake Park Library and the Town of Lake Park Summer Camp, presents a Children’s exhibit “Now It Is Summer.” As part of their summer camp experience, on July 9, 2019, a group of 7 to 12 year olds took part in a reading and art activity in the Lake Park Library. Librarian, Ileana Bell led the workshop. First she read to the children who listened attentively to the book “Now It Is Summer” by Eileen Spinelli, and then she instructed them to paint a picture of their summer using canvases and acrylic paints donated by the Artists of Palm Beach County. The kids were inspired to produce some wonderful artwork and they shared stories to describe their paintings with members of the artists group.

APBC will display their work and stories as well as photographs of their camp experience throughout the month of August in the Art on Park Gallery. Refreshments, including ice cream sundaes, will be served. The gallery is proud to be sponsoring this exhibition. It is hoped that the children seeing their artwork displayed in a true art gallery setting will enhance their confidence and their positive self-esteem.

“Little Red Rising Hood As A Crime Scene” by Jeanne Jaffe

Jeanne Jaffe is a sculptor, video and installation artist who recently moved to Florida from Philadelphia where she is Professor Emeritus in the Fine Arts Department at the University of the Arts. She is also a visiting artist/professor at Xian Academy of Fine Arts in China each fall and is currently the coordinator of International Projects at the Jaffe Center for Book Arts.

“Supplicant” Part of the T.S. Eliot Installation

Jaffe’s work is inspired by an interest in anthropology, mythology, and psychology. Her work “explores how identity is formed from early, pre-verbal, bodily experiences through the later influences of language and culture. In installations that re-examine cultural myths and stories, such as “Little Red Riding Hood as a Crime Scene” or “Eulogy for Nikola Tesla”, well known folktales, history, and poetry are re-imagined through a contemporary lens. These multi-sensory environments are composed of sculpture, videos, interactive elements, stop motion animation and sound and supply a context to question and rethink our cultural assumptions.”

“Elegy for Tesla” by Jeanne Jaffe

Ms. Jaffe is the recipient of fellowship grants from the Gottlieb Foundation for Outstanding Artistic Development, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Mid Atlantic/NEA. the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Leeway Foundation, the Independence Foundation, CEVA Foundation, the Virginia A. Groot Foundation, and the Mino Artist Residency in Japan, among others.

Works by Ms. Jaffe have been exhibited both nationally and internationally at such places as the Seokdang Museum of Art in Korea, the Mino-Washi Akari Museum in Japan, The Royal Scottish Academy of Edinburgh, Scotland, Museum Rijswijk in Holland, London Craft Council Gallery in England, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art Museum in Philadelphia, the Delaware Art Museum, Hillwood Art Museum, and the Michener Art Museum. Her work has been reviewed extensively, including in Art in America, The New York Times, and Sculpture Magazine. She holds a B.F.A. from Tyler School of Art and an M.F.A. from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred.

Lucinda Linderman “Self Portrait”

Lucinda Linderman, a native to Chattanooga, Tennessee, is a recognized environmental artist and environmental art curator living and working in Miami, Florida. She explains: “As consumers, we purchase, use, and throw things away, never thinking of the items again. Looking at this linear production, I collect industrial and post consumer packaging, which becomes the building blocks of my sculptures.

She shares, “This material, disregarded by many, has its own history of travel from factory to store, being created to be thrown away. I highlight the inherent value, leaving traces of what was, transforming the material into something new, playful, through my hands adding value to these discarded materials”.

Lucinda Linderman “Letter To The Editor”

Lucinda Linderman holds an MFA from the University of Miami in Sculpture and a B.A. in Biology. She has been a full time artist with works exhibited in juried shows since 2001. From 2001 until 2006, she worked as a master apprentice to renowned constructivist sculptor John Henry, where both her aesthetic sense and technical skills were honed.

Among several prestigious residencies, Linderman was the Robert M. Macnamara artist-in-residence in Westport Island, Maine, in 2005. Lucinda was an artist- in-residence at the CANDO Arts Co-op in Miami Beach from 2009 to 2011, where she was the director of Sol Gallery during 2011. During a two year residency at the Deering Estate, Lucinda was a Special Projects Curator for the Festival of the Arts In Deep exhibition, a mentor environmental Artist for the residency, and an integral part of Deering’s National Endowment for the Arts Grant.

Lucinda Linderman “Green Wall”

Lucinda has been in juried group shows in the Hunter Museum of Art in Chattanooga, TN, the Young at Art Museum in Davie, Fl, the Lowe Museum in Coral Gables, Fl, and in the Coral Gables Museum of Art. Nazaré Feliciano

Nazaré Feliciano was born in a small town in Portugal, and studied art in the United States. She’s has been a professor of art in ceramics and sculpture at Palm Beach State College / Eissey Campus since 2001, and has established herself as a fine artist / ceramicist, with numerous awards and solo exhibitions.

“Living In A Pumpkin” by Nazaré Feliciano

Having grown up surrounded by beautifully painted terracotta tiles, known as “Azulejos” in Portugal, Nazaré creates art works using terracotta and porcelain. Her most intricate pieces are her series of porcelain panels that are flexible and can be handled similarly to a blanket, made of pieces of hollow clay, strung together with steel metal, to create a flexible ceramic form. These quilt-like panels show images and text with a sepia tone coloration. She explains: “Usually I work in series. Some of my art work may be quite different from a previous work. However, one of the consistencies in my pieces is that they are a sum of parts, many pieces creating a whole. I create these pieces aiming to achieve a sensory response: cold, warm, soft, rough, beyond a visual and intellectual perception.”

Ladles by Nazaré Feliciano

Nazaré earned a bachelor’s degree at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, and a BFA from Florida Atlantic University. She received her master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Fine arts Studies from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and completed her Ph.D. in Comparative Studies of Fine and Performing Arts, at FAU, on May 2014, with a dissertation, “Dance Bodily Knowledge Transferred to Sculpture,” that focuses on the sculptural art work of Mary Frank, a contemporary American artist, who conveys a unique sense of movement in her sculptures.

“Emigrant Ballad” by Nazaré Feliciano

Nazaré’s art work is in museums and private collections, and has been published in “Contemporary Ceramics” a book by Susan Peterson, “Ceramic Tile Art” a book by Deborah Goletz, and, in the International Ceramic magazine–Ceramic Art and Perception, the Ceramics Monthly magazine, and The Arts of the Times magazine.
