Old School Square:

Old School Square is the center of arts & entertainment in downtown Delray Beach. Celebrating 25 years as the community’s gathering place, the historic campus includes the intimate Crest Theatre (in the restored 1925 Delray High School building) the Cornell Art Museum (in the 1913 Delray Elementary building), and the Fieldhouse (formerly known as the Vintage Gymnasium, c. 1925). The Pavilion, which opened in 2002, hosts outdoor concerts and festivals. The Creative Arts School (located on the second floor of the Crest Theatre) offers art, photography, writing and performance classes. Old School Square also serves as a venue for community, corporate, private and media events. Palm Beach Watermedia Society Announces Paint-Ins, Meeting And Workshop

The Palm Beach Watermedia Society announces four events in January and welcomes everyone to participate. The “Paint-Ins” are held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month and include a live model. The January 14th General Meeting includes a demo. Non-members are welcome at minimal charge of $2. A two-day workshop with Susan Hanssen, a well known and award winning artist, begins on January 7th. The focus will be painting on gold gesso. The Rickie Report shares the details and urges you to get involved with this talented group of artists. Susan Hanssen is offering a 2 day workshop to explore the many interesting and fun techniques of painting on gold gesso. Susan will demonstrate each day, showing different methods of applying paint and creating any number of textures. She will also discuss design elements that can aid in this project and all of your painting experiences. At the end of each day there will be constructive critique. This is a useful and informative discussion to help everyone. Of course, individual attention is always available during the day.

Susan Hanssen is an award winning painter and is well known in south Florida for her unique and exciting work. Susan is a Signature member of the National Watercolor Society and of the Florida Watercolor Society. She has taught numerous workshops across Florida and recently in New Mexico with her sister, Nancy Frost Begin. Susan continues to teach in her studio and is represented at the Rossetti Fine Art Gallery in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Hugh O’Neill was born in Belfast, Ireland in 1959. He studied painting in Belfast Ireland from 1981-1985 spending some of that time studying in Nante and Paris, France. O’Neill’s approach to his oil painting is direct, bold and figurative. He is a visual musician who is forever searching for the ultimate melody on canvas, an artistic pioneer and a man who survived through brutal conflict growing up in war torn Northern Ireland. Hugh O’Neill has been a modest man all his life but his work speaks for itself in grand visual concertos of timeless skill. The poet of the day and the eyes of a truly gifted artist, he continues to work in silent hues of robust color for all to see. His work is alive and worth seeking out as its energy is best felt up close.
