Would you like to show your work in our gallery?

We are proud to offer an unprecedented equal opportunity for all artists! We are unique in the fact that we accept the work of ALL artists, from emerging to professional, to show, sell and compete for awards in our Artist’s Eye Gallery and Boutique in downtown Lake Worth.

Our gallery is owned and operated by the Lake Worth Art League, the oldest non-profit art organization in Palm Beach County, founded in 1941. The league is comprised of very talented artists from all disciplines. More good news… it is very inexpensive to join and show. First, become a member for just $75. per year. You then have the opportunity to show up to 5 pieces of work in each one of our 8 judged “season” shows. Each show is judged by a qualified judge that is not affiliated with the league. The league offers cash prizes and ribbons for first, second, third, and honorable mention award winners, and a ribbon Recognition award. Entry fee for each show is $25. for first entry and $15. For the second. $10. For each each additional piece up to 5 total. Summer exhibitions continue with reduced prices for entry. The league retains 20% of all sales, which along with membership, entry fees and our volunteers, helps keep the gallery open and your work visible to the public. A reception with light refreshment is held for each show. All shows are advertised. Membership offers also offers the opportunity to sell your work in our Boutique.

For two decades David’s creative energies primarily found an outlet in music, but a blowpipe and furnace have firmly replaced his guitar and amp. A former corporate marketing professional, a glassblowing class in 2001 ignited such a passion that he transitioned his professional career from the software world to full-time glass artist.

David has been guest artist at the Corning Museum of Glass and studied at the Pilchuck Glass School. In 2010, David was selected as Artist in Residence in Seto City, Japan, spending a month lecturing and demonstrating his work. Primarily self-taught, David grew his skills through experimentation informed by observing talented local artists and a few visits with Afro Celotto, former assistant to Lino Tagliapietra from Murano, Italy. David has received awards for his work including an artistic merit scholarship for a class at Pilchuck. His book, David Patchen Glass, is in the permanent collection of the Rakow Library at the Corning Museum of Glass and the Frondazione Giorgio Cini, Entro Studi del Vetro (Glass Study Center Library) in Venice , Italy.

David is actively involved in the glass arts community as Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Directors at Public Glass (San Francisco’s center for glass art), member of the Pilchuck Leadership Council and former member of the Board of Directors, Glass Alliance of Northern California. David maintains a private studio within Public Glass where he creates his work. He enjoys and finds inspiration in international travel, the marine environment, science, nature and architecture.

David’s work is known for its intense colors, intricate detail and meticulous craftsmanship, is in numerous private collections, museums and is exhibited internationally. Born and raised in New York, David Patchen now resided in San Francisco.

About Edrian’s Sculptures:

Edrian loves making art that evokes thought and emotion. Exposure to different mediums through her life experience is clear in her work. The story telling qualities and character development of children’s books is evident in all of her figurative ceramic sculptures. The textures and finishes are very painterly, while shapes, patterns, or typeface treatments are evocative of her graphic design background.

[image] “Deceit” Ceramic Sculpture by Edrian Thomidis

Edrian Thomidis’ newest figurative ceramic sculptures are motivated by her interaction with life and the fluidity of its transitions. Human experiences and moments inspire the characters and the symbols that have meaning behind her figurative sculptures. Edrian’s work is inspired by situations in life that most people can relate to. The interpretation is left to the audience and is characterized by the familiar metaphors found in each piece.  They are each unique in their theme while capturing the overall concept of moving through life.

The individual subject matter in each piece invites us to think about life as a journey, adventure or a crossing. To pause and reflect about moments of faith, desire, loss or any other moment where emotions are involved.

*Art for a Cause: Opening Benefiting The Kids Cancer Foundation

Edrian Thomidis is a strong supporter of the Kids Cancer Foundation and has chosen to donate 10% of all proceeds from the opening reception to the Foundation.

Kids Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity, founded in 2001 whose mission is to provide hope and support to local children and families battling childhood cancer and/or blood disorders. We accomplish this by providing compassionate, easily accessible, supportive care services.

Dana’s artwork has been seen in many gallery shows in New York State and New England:  Emily Lowe Gallery; Heckshire Art Museum; Huntington Art League; South Shore Arts Council; the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library Art Shows;  Southern Vermont Art Center, and Stratton Mountain Arts Festivals. A proud member and exhibitor of the Lake Worth Art League since 2012, Dana has served on the Board of Directors for four years. Artwork by Dana Axel

Dana tells The Rickie Report, “Using a “minimalist” vocabulary, I express my perception in a “visual voice” conveyed in a Hard-Edged Abstraction style. Predominantly painting with acrylic on canvas, my work is both non-representational and figurative.  I use collage as preliminary sketches for my paintings. Found imagery and forms are arranged, added to and subtracted from, until my concept emerges”.

March 18-April 6: 7th Annual PEEPS

Show This annual show is open to all artists, and brought 1600 visitors to the gallery last year. It often gets TV and Press coverage….and it’s just for fun. There is a $100 top prize, and four second place prizes given to artists by the PEEPS™ Company. (For those of you who don’t know, PEEPS are those little marshmallow candies that used to appear at Easter time, and now appear all year round.) The show is judged by local celebrities and, when he can, by Bob Born, the inventor of PEEPS. Go to http://cgmspeeps.blogspot.com/ for pictures of the last few years of entries.

April 8-April 20: “There’ll Be No More Horsing Around”

This will be our first year of a show with a “Horse” theme. We have a number of equestrian enthusiasts who have been working in our studio, visiting our gallery and asking for works that involve horses. The gallery and studio will be participating in, and contributing to a major Breast Cancer Fund-Raiser at the Wellington Polo Club just prior to this event.

April 22- May 4 “Spin a Tale of Love”

Each artist entering this show will receive two antique wooden spindles that held yarn in the old knitting mills. You must use these spindles (in any manor you wish) as part of your artist entry. “Spin a Tale of Love” could be about any lovers throughout history, real or fictional, human or otherwise. This is your chance to tell your love story. (You need not ask “how” to use the spindles. It is up to you.)

June 17-July 6 “There Auto Be A Law”

A show about cars and motorcycles and widgets and gadgets- A recent study showed that there are fewer collectors of art among the young and wealthy. Many of these collectors are turning their attention to the collection of cars and bikes. Let’s test these waters and sell them the Art of Motorcycle and Automobile Art Maintenance.

July 8- July 20: “Shoe Fetish/ Foot Fetish”

This proved to be last year’s favorite show among our patrons who purchased more works than in any other show of the year (except for The Naked Truth.) We like adding some levity to the hot summer by introducing the foot theme into our mix. We want to bring the shoe loving crowds into the gallery to purchase your works.

August 5-August 17: “The Male Form”

We are repeating this successful special request exhibition. The special request came from artists who felt slighted by the creations and shows that mostly feature the female form. They wanted equal time We welcome your interpretations.

September 9-September 21: “The Naked Truth”

We are always happy to repeat this show again and again. Although it may seem similar to “The Male Form,” we see this as a wide open topic that can be interpreted as broadly as you wish.

October 7- October 19: 3rd Annual Cat-O-Strophic Event

This wildly popular event is all about cats; cats of every shape, color and kind. We will again reach out to all of the animal rescue venues, pet shops and veterinarians as we publicize this event.

October 21-November 2: 3rd Annual “Day(s) of the Dead”

This event brought purchasing patrons into the gallery long after the exhibit was taken down. The works of gallery artists, left over from this event, continue to sell. We have a whole new mailing list of DofD patrons who are looking forward to your works.

November 4-November 16: “The ‘I’ of Picasso”

This is our tribute to one of the world’s greatest and most versatile artists that ever graced this planet. It is your “I” as well as his, that will fuel this exhibit. Let your creativity flow, reflecting one or more of his art “periods” or one of your own.

November 18-November 29 “Whose Your Dada”

This your tribute to a movement that turned the art world on its head. Now it is time for you to stand on your head and influence the world around you though your art.

Joyce Brown tells The Rickie Report, “You may have noticed that we will not be repeating the “It’s A Dog’s Life” show this year. Although everyone loves dogs, it seems far more difficult to sell you works of art featuring dogs, than it is to sell your works on any other topic.  And for the rest of the season, we will turn the front of the gallery back to the member artists. If you are a 3-D artist , please consider joining the gallery (and/or) our new studio. Members do not pay fees to be a part of our special exhibitions. It is part of the membership. Write for an application and we will forward it to you”.

Art Teachers: If any of your students want to participate in any of our exhibits, they may do so without any fee. We welcome your participation, as an artist, as well.

The hot new place to be this season is located in an Historic FEC Train Depot building in the heart of the City of Lake Worth, Florida. The 14,000 square foot Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts is attracting hundreds of interested people to its brand new hot shop. With three glory holes and two furnaces they have been scheduling back-to-back classes ever since they reopened in October.

Throughout the summer, Founder, JB Berkow along with Anita Holmes, Executive Director and Rick Eggert, Creative Director have worked hard to design an impressive line up of programming for the upcoming season.  They have four outstanding, world renowned Visiting Glass Artists coming to the center in 2016. These events will be three-day affairs. Thursday nights will be a private sit-down-dinner party where the artist will talk about their processes and inspirations. Friday nights will be a gallery opening centering around the visiting artist’s works and featuring two dimensional works by local artists.

Finally, Saturday will be an afternoon demonstration by the visiting artist. Never before has there been this type of opportunity for Palm Beach County residents to meet and greet four of the top glass artists in the world and have the rare chance to learn about their processes, inspirations and actually see them creating. Visit the Center’s website to view the details and to register and pay for the Thursday and Friday night events.

The first of these events will coincide with the Lake Worth Art Synergy Event, which the Benzaiten Center is hosting for the second year in a row. Last year they had 32 local artists and organizations taking part in a mini-art-fair within the empty 5,000 square foot space of the building that will eventually house their fine art metal foundry. This year the highlight and kick-off to the event will be world-renowned glass artist, Laura Donefer, conducting a glass-blowing demo from 4pm to 6pm on Saturday, January 23. After that, will be an Art Synergy Awards Ceremony. Festivities will continue until 8pm with live music, light nibbles, wine and beer and is open to the public free of charge.

They also have a stimulating series of lectures every first Tuesday of the month from 6pm – 8pm. Every second Wednesday of the month they hold a Hump of the Hump Happy Hour from 5:30pm – 7:30pm in the evening featuring a glass blowing demo, wine, beer, and live entertainment. There are several fundraisers planned for the 2016 season including their signature event, ‘Glasstronomique,’ a ‘Casablanca Casino Night,’ and a cocktail party in the home of a major glass collector. They will also hold a community ‘Summer Solstice’ party in June. Again, check  website for dates, times and registration details.
