The shopping, entertainment and dining mecca of the CityPlace district will transform into an outdoor art showcase during the 8th Annual Downtown West Palm Beach Art Festival. Rosemary Avenue will feature more than 100 artists’ tents, arranged gallery-style and filled with all mediums of fine art. The free, outdoor event takes place April 7 – 8.  This year, the Festival will take place during the CityPlace district’s inaugural Art Affair, a weeklong event taking place April 7-15 which includes a series of art and cultural workshops, artist talks, a new walking art tour, to name a few highlight events, all taking place alongside the Art Festival.  The Rickie Report shares the details and some sneak peeks.

Art Boca Raton Contemporary Art Fair, March 14-18, 2018 to be held in the International Pavilion of the Palm Beaches in cooperation with Florida Atlantic University. Showcasing contemporary, modern and emerging art, sculpture, photography, works on paper and installations, the fair will offer a broad range of art to both beginning and seasoned collectors. Art Boca Raton will encompass 60-65 dealers carefully selected by a curatorial committee in order to assure dealer quality and exclusivity.

The International Pavilion of the Palm Beaches will include a 65,000 sq. ft. /6100 sq. meter exhibition hall, a full-service restaurant, sculpture garden and lecture hall facility. Ample parking and valet service will be available to fair attendees.

Over 125 submissions were received including both 2D and 3D art. The juror, Noor Blazekovic, is a well-known arts advocate and founder of Irreversible Magazine and Projects, developing an extensive international platform for nontraditional exhibitions and cultural exchanges. Blazekovic is a respected art curator and project developer within the South Florida art community and beyond, her projects have taken her worldwide where she has mentored numerous emerging and mid-career artists, helping them to develop their careers and strengthen their work while building a collector base and following. Blazekovic has received numerous awards within the industry for her leadership role and continued developments within the local community.  The work submitted by all of the artists was most impressive, but due to limited space, only a small selection of artist were able to be selected.  All of their work can be seen at www.ArtSynergy.org.

Free your abstraction in an unconventional space! This four-day acrylic workshop offers a premiere opportunity to create an abstract series using our 1925 Fieldhouse (a vintage gym) as your studio! This amazing, inspiring space is perfect for creating work in as large a format as you want, with hands-on intensive assistance. Participants create their own abstract series by learning how to paint three or more paintings a day. We will use acrylic paint and “loosening up” exercises to liberate intuitive creativity. Discussion of color theory, composition and suggestions for creating your own “painting process” will also be provided. There will be daily meditation and demonstrations in the workshops.

UNLOCKING CREATIVITY: AN INTENSIVE DREAM WORKSHOP FOR ARTISTS

PLEIN AIR PAINTING WORKSHOP

“Watercolor painting has been my passion for the past 30 years. People often ask, “What do you paint?” Even after all this time, I have no good answer. Imaginary landscapes? Painting for me is much like playing with a Wejee Board. After the first few brush strokes, the painting seems to have a mind of its own. The end is partly a surprise. My Bachelor of Arts Degree is from East Carolina University in Fine Arts. I was elected as a signature member of the National Watercolor Society in 2001 and the American Watercolor Society in 2004.

South Florida native Judy Nunno is a self taught watercolor artist who
specializes in portraits and paintings of crystal and glass. She is a

She is a two-time winner in Watercolor Artist Magazine’s Annual Watercolor Media Show Case Competition and has been published in North Light Books’ Splash 16: Exploring Texture (2015) and Splash 17 (2016).

“In contrast to the current trend of content laden art, nature is where I always find myself most at home. It is the quietude, coolness of color, and peacefulness that I reflect in my paintings. I select elements of nature and paint them with distinct plays of light and shadow. Shadows have multiple colors reflected within them and are not just an uninteresting gray. This reminds us that shadows play just as important a role in paintings as light. By combining light and shadow with intriguing color, I am a value painter who truly enjoys major and subtle contrasts of the two”.

Florida artist Nessa Grainger AWS, who is recognized throughout the U.S., will jury the event. Grainger is a signature member of the National Association of Women Artists, Allied Artists of America, National Collage Society and the International Society of Experimental Artists. Her works are in the permanent collection of Zhei Ziang Museum in Hangzhow China, Elliot Museum in Stuart, FL, Libraries of the American Art in Washington, DC, as well as private collections throughout Europe and Mexico. She received a classical art education at the Philadelphia Museum School of Art, Tyler School of Fine Arts and the Pennsylvania Academy of Arts and now teaches art in South Florida.

Deb LaFogg Docherty’s art combines her great two loves: her love of nature and her love of painting. Her paintings strive to give people a glimpse of how animals live in the wild, raise their young, court and survive. She paints a picture of a secret world that many never get a chance to see. Deb’s quest to paint wildlife has taken her across the United States from the Everglades National Park in Florida to Denali National Park in Alaska. It has become an adventure she loves to share.

Her formal training began in college with a dual major in illustration and commercial art. She has continued to advance her work through master artist workshops. It is from them that she began to not only focus on the wildlife, but on the landscape in which they live. The use of light, color, composition, texture, and atmosphere help bring the viewer into the secret world of nature. She is always learning new ways to communicate this through her work. Deb’s paintings come to life in pastels, acrylics and oils.

Its a story about an Key Largo Woodrat named Jill who bred in captivity and is set free to make a life on her own.

McMow Art Glass, which has been a fixture in town for more than 30 years, has joined forces with the new Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts to create an exciting glass art hub in the City of Lake Worth, Florida. Their mission: to elevate the glass arts through one-of-a-kind glass creations, and to share this knowledge. The two facilities will be offering informative courses, live demonstrations, studio rental space, and group tours to the public. Learn, create and be inspired by the skilled artisans who are eager to share their glass art knowledge with you, in beautiful Lake Worth.
