Commemorative Poster, “Bending The Rules” by Dan Mackin

Hobe Sound’s very own artist Dan Mackin has created a unique, original painting, “Bending the Rules” for the Festival of the Arts’ annual, commemorative poster.  Mackin is one of only 30 artists to be Disney registered. His original work was part of a limited surfboard collection offered by Disney. He has also collaborated with Brian Wilson, original founding member of The Beach Boys, to create paintings based upon Wilson’s song narratives. Mackin has designed original surfboard art for major shapers including Quicksilver; his works hang throughout the Hawaiian Islands; and he has won the Outstanding Visual Arts award for Martin County in 2015.

AL jewelry designer Jason Stoddard hand-set this opal in matrix, Ceylon sapphire, and Ammonite fossil wrapped in a mixture of gold and silver.

Hobe Sound will once again welcome the nation’s top artists and skilled craft artisans during the 18th Annual Hobe Sound Festival of the Arts on February 2 – 3. The free, outdoor happening features hundreds of gallery-style booths filled with every medium of fine art lining Dixie Highway from Bridge Road to Venus Street. Comprised of both a fully juried art fair and a vetted craft fair, the popular event hosts more than 250 artists and craft artisans on site each day from 10 am to 5 pm. New this year, the Boys & Girls Club of Martin County is adding a Kids Zone to the Festival. Sponsored by Publix Supermarket Charities, the zone will include interactive games, bounce house, dance-off and maker activities from Home Depot.

Laz tells The Rickie Report, “Raised in south Florida, I have been near the ocean my entire life. My unwarranted fears of the ocean’s mysteries evolved into an endless fascination during my childhood summers in Key West. Floating below me was an alien world waiting to be discovered”.

Laz continues, “Over thirty years later, this love affair for the ocean has developed into an obsession. Whether I am on an ocean adventure or reading books on its natural history, few things capture my attention with such an invigorating passion. Every immersion elicits the fascination I felt as a small boy dipping my head underwater for the very first time”.

Everet and Laura Cooper tell us, “We are a small home based business with big dreams and goals (Our first storefront coming Summer 2016). We are incredibly passionate and dedicated to making the highest quality Bath and Body products, and not just any product, but products that work the way you would expect and like them to; our soaps lather like crazy and leave your skin feeling clean and moisturized, not sticky, not dry, but just right. Some say we are revolutionizing handmade skincare with this idea, you use a product because it actually works and feels great, not suffer through a mediocre, overpriced, thrown together item just because it is “good for you”.

Karen Massengill – painting
http://karenleffelmassengill.com

Karen knew at a very early age that she wanted to be an artist. Pencils and crayons were constant companions as her family moved literally around the world; she grew up and drew creative inspiration from all over the US, as well as France, Germany, Turkey and Thailand. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida State University, Karen was sidetracked from painting by marriage and raising three sons. She earned a nursing degree to assure a steady income, working in hospitals until her husband’s sudden death in 1995. At first a helpful distraction from the loss, painting became her primary interest and the childhood dream of a career in art persistently reasserted itself. To revitalize her skills she attended workshops taught by world class artists including Carl Dalio, Janet Rodgers, Jim Kosvanec and a host of others.

Leffel-Massengill has enjoyed immense success on the art show circuit: she has shown at Coconut Grove, Ann Arbor State Street Art Fair, Ann Arbor South University Art Fair, Winter Park Sidewalk Festival and Artigras, has won numerous show awards and been selected as show poster artist five times. Her painting Summer Light appeared on the cover of the Summer 1998 Watercolor Magic national publication. Prestigious honors she has received include: Birds in Art four times, in both watercolor and oil mediums; Arts for the Parks with watercolor entries in both the top 100 and top 200, signature status with both the Florida Watercolor Society and the Society of Animal Artists. Teaching others to paint has become an important part of her art career via workshops held all over the country and private lessons in her Palm City studio.

Karen earned her BA degree from Florida State University with an art major and art history minor. Her art career really began with the unexpected death of her husband, Lester Massengill in August 1995. Turning to painting as a means to survive the grieving process, Leffel-Massengill quickly became proficient first in watercolor as a medium, soon followed by oil. She has garnered many awards in both mediums and has been accepted in international competitions in both as well. Her work has been purchased by the Leigh Yawkee Woodson Art Museum as well as numerous corporations.

Joseph Ferris

Joseph first began working with metal at the age of 13. His  talents were instantly recognized and his instructor encouraged him to enter a Michigan State Industrial Arts competition. He did so, placing First in the Regional Competition and went on to place Second in the State  Competition.   Joseph studied for four years under Eugeen Wolonick, master Craftsman of Metal Working Techniques. It was here that Joseph’s imagination and skill reached new and exciting levels.  He went on to Western Michigan University taking on heavy class loads of drawing and industrial design courses along with a strong emphases in physics, mathematical theory and equations which he uses daily in the creation of his art.   These early experiences and training created the foundation which led Joseph to become the successful artist that he is today.

Joseph utilizes a variety of metals and materials to create unique and unusual metal sculptures and sculptural furniture. Living in Florida has brought to his work the use of color which he incorporates in his already exciting pieces.  Joseph’s outstanding contemporary metal art, metal wall sculptures , and metal art clocks  have won numerous awards for over 20 years.

His art studio is located in Boca Raton, FL because Joseph believes that Palm Beach County offers such beautiful areas to expand an artist creativity.  His garden art and decorative clocks add a beautiful sense of motion  to his sculptured art designs.  His contemporary metal art uses added  depth and dimension often resulting in a hanging sculpture rather than just a flat image. The addition of bright colors in his abstract metal art, artistic clocks and metal sculptures create further visual impact and make his art the perfect for any home or office. The ability to customize  the size and color of his sculptures and contemporary abstract art enable  clients to work directly with Joseph to create that perfect art piece.
