Drive down Flavor Pict Road in Boynton Beach through what was tomato farm territory (that’s what the name of the road alludes to), and you will find members of Paul Cummings’ Sculpture Group covered in dust as they create wood and stone sculptures.  From 8 – 11 am Mondays through Thursdays, you can access a large library for inspiration or answers, stones to choose from, and all the machinery you will need.

Paul Cummings Sculpture Group student

Paul tells The Rickie Report, “I have been creating 3-dimensional objects from my early days in wood. After I moved to Florida in 1972, I started taking stone carving classes in Boca.  After a class or two the regular instructor quit and they asked me to take over.  I did that for several years”.

Sculptures by Paul Cummings

When Paul moved to west Boynton Beach on 10 acres of land,  it got to be a real trip to go to Boca and the two classes I was doing. So, I began classes in an outdoor studio and offered it by word of mouth to various people and it just expanded. The county  bought the property from me and I had to find new studio space, so a friend offered me a garage-type building in south Boynton where I am currently teaching”.

Paul’s sculptures reside in private collections around the United States, Europe, and Central America.  He has exhibited and won awards and currently exhibits at the Green Cay Nature Center in Boynton Beach. A 22 year veteran of the Air Force, Paul had a wide variety of tasks, depending on his rank (starting as a private and ending as a major).  He recently went on the veterans Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Paul received degrees from University of Maryland and George Washington University.  His artistry has been published in “Sculpture in Stone”.

VICKI SIEGEL

Vicki Siegel’s work combines painting and photography together.  She creates images that unite her fascination with the world around her with the physicality of paint. Blending the two art forms is a process that results in images that are both real and imaginary.  The photographers gaze allows her to observe and archive reality, while the paint flows from her subconscious to her brush in marks that are uniquely her own. Siegel says, “In my work I ask the viewer to engage by comparing what is photographic and what is paint, but also what is personal and what is universal”.

“Playing on Pompano Beach” by Lee Krull

Lee Krull was born in Cleveland, Ohio to a family that included several generations of artists. Her talent and love for art was apparent at a young age. A “Snowbird” since the age of 5, Lee attended schools in both Ohio & Florida. At two high schools she was the winner of three consecutive Scholastic Art “Gold Key” Awards and had a drawing accepted for display in the International Art Program by the National Art Education Association and the American National Red Cross.

“Fanciful Flamingos” by Lee Krull

Moving permanently to Pompano Beach, Florida at age 15, Lee embarked on a commercial art career, while still in high school. As self-taught artist in her early twenties, she began to also show her fine art locally until 1974, when focus went to family and building her commercial art business. Now, after more than 35 years in business as an illustrator and designer for the trade; and with the children grown, Lee has come full circle. She began once again, in 2011 to create fine art.

“ArtisanGarden Ledge” by Lee Krull

She sketches and paints directly to canvas, creating only one-of-a-kind, original work. Since then she has exhibited in juried art shows and won award from Ft. Lauderdale to Jupiter. Lee also has received a Grant for Art in Public Places, and has been commissioned for her work.

“Hobe Sound” by Lee Krull

Lee tells The Rickie Report, “It excites me to make art emerge from a blank surface. I am compelled to create art as it gives me joy. In my work I attempt to invoke what it was about my subject that struck me and moved me to begin the work. Although I would be considered a realist, I do not wish to replicate, but to paint something the way I see it or in the way I would like it to be. I add, subtract, and re-color to satisfy my artist’s eye”.

“Summer Lime Is Sublime” by Lee Krull

“Finding beauty in everything, I especially love detail which both intrigues and challenges me. Working in oil or watercolor I would call myself an eclectic artist as far as subject matter and style although when I am finished there is clear evidence of my hand in all of my pieces.”

It’s also class time at the Lake Worth Art League!

Classes for the beginner to advanced artist start in November.

 No experience necessary!

Classes are kept small.

There is time for the individual artist to learn what he/she need to know to advance at their own pace.

"Daughter and Grandson in the Shadows" by David McEwen

Daughter and Grandson in the Shadows” by David McEwen

When David and Sally moved to Southern France, they  set up a Painting Holiday Centre. David tells The Rickie Report that since then, “we’ve met people who have arranged painting and teaching trips to The Falkland Islands, teaching and exhibiting trips to San Diego and Delray Beach, painting trips to Venice, Barcelona, Jerez, Paris and, well………. basically, all over Europe.  So apart from saying I love Sal to bits; am seriously proud of my grandchildren, I think that painting is the best job in the world…”.

In 2012 David was elected to be an Associate Member of The Society of Equestrian Painters. He is represented by Jaynie Spector of The Dog and Horse Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina and by Dan and Carol Lynne at Forms, Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida. His work has been included in several magazines and The International Artist named him as a “master painter of the world”.
