Due to Hurricane Irma, plans have changed:  The Creative Arts School at Old School Square’s Open House on Saturday, September 9th has been changed to Friday, October 6th.  The School has expanded their offerings for Fall 2017/Winter 2018. The public is invited to a season launch party with a sneak peek of what’s new for the 2017-18 season! Get a glimpse of the shows and lectures in the Crest Theatre; enjoy refreshments in the Producers Lounge and a showcase of works by Creative Arts School students and instructors; upstairs, the Creative Arts School studios and classrooms will be open and instructors will be on hand to talk about the exciting fall offerings. Visit the Fieldhouse, next door, to see one of Palm Beach County’s most unique wedding and event venues, pick up rental information, enjoy entertainment and refreshments. Outside, check out a special Art Walk print-making demo by FAU students in front of the Cornell Art Museum and find out about the Museum’s (post-renovation) Grand Re-Opening! Be sure to stick around for the Free Friday Concert with Turnstiles beginning at 7:30 pm!

 

 

 

 

 

The School offers a wide range of art, photography, digital imaging and writing classes for all levels. Youth classes are also available for kids ages 6 and up.

Seven new instructors have joined the teaching team, many of whom are internationally recognized for their work!

New classes include: Contemporary Painting, Foundations in Oil Painting, Figure Drawing and Expressionism, Urban Mixmedia Textured Abstracts, Advanced Installation Art, Glass Fusing, Jewelry Design with Cold connections, Landscape Photography, Nature & Wildlife Photography and more!

New Workshops include: iPhone Photography 101 and Image Transfer: Metal to Magic

Old School Square is the center of arts & entertainment in downtown Delray Beach and has served as the community’s gathering place for over 25 years. The historic campus welcomes half a million people each year for programs, classes, events and rental activities and includes the intimate Crest Theatre (in the restored 1925 Delray High School building) the Cornell Art Museum (in the 1913 Delray Elementary building), and the Fieldhouse (c. 1925). The Pavilion, which opened in 2002, hosts outdoor concerts and shows. The Creative Arts School (2nd floor of the Crest Theatre building) offers art, photography and writing classes. Old School Square also serves as a venue for community, corporate, private and media events. Old School Square Creative Arts School is introducing a new class for artists, “Advanced installation Art”. This unique and exciting class invites artists from ALL disciplines to explore installation art and collaborate on a multi-media, interactive sculpture. Are you a painter, sculptor, photographer, film-maker, writer/poet, engineer, musician or some combination? This inclusive course offers the opportunity to work with fellow creatives in your chosen medium and travel outside of it at the same time.  In addition, applications are now being accepted for “Art on the Square”, a Premiere Juried Outdoor Gallery presented by the Cornell Art Museum, March 18 & 19, 2017. This unique and exciting class invites artists from ALL disciplines to explore installation art and collaborate on a multi-media, interactive sculpture. Are you a painter, sculptor, photographer, film-maker, writer/poet, engineer, musician or some combination? This inclusive course offers the opportunity to work with fellow creatives in your chosen medium and travel outside of it at the same time. The possibilities are endless with this fun, mind-expanding, collaborative class!

 

 

 

The entire 7-week course will be recorded on video. The final installation art piece will be on display in the Crest Theatre building and then moved outside as a temporary installation for all to see!

PETER G. PEREIRA is a versatile artist in Painting, Illustration Performance and Installation Art. After 20+ years in New York, Peter has recently relocated to Delray Beach. He studied at the University of Omaha and Art Studies in Europe and Africa in the 1980’s and 90’s. On his return he was accepted into several prestigious galleries for painting including Timothy Roberts Gallery and Gallerie D’Art Contemporain (to which his abstract work has returned). He has since continued to create across disciplines and notably evolved the Trees of Life Sculpture Multimedia Installation over the past 10 years in New York and toured internationally in recent years (with Figment Arts) bringing this unique Installation Series as far as Geelong, Australia. Based on paintings and drawings from his time in Africa and later Montreal, Peter created the Paradox Box Series of Wrap Sculpture and Painting Performance Series. He also composed an original album for the show, which later was performed off-Broadway. As an Illustrator, his Comic Book Narrative work appears in Strauss News.

The Old School Square center grounds will be transformed into an exciting outdoor gallery, welcoming art collectors and enthusiasts to meet the artists and discover something new.  The show will be limited to 100 artists with original works including paintings, ceramics, fiber art, glass, jewelry, mixed-media, metalwork, photography, woodwork and sculptures in a variety of media.
