Acrylic Pour Painting

Come join two award winning artists Lois Perdue and Tammy Seymour who will show you how to create an art piece without ever using a brush! Learn how to pour paint directly onto the surface of a canvas and maneuver the colors to blend naturally as they come in contact with each other creating a unique work of art! Or use these pieces once dry, as backgrounds to future paintings when you get home.

Every “pour” painting is different! Even if you used the very same colors prepared exactly the same way and placed them in the same areas of the canvas, the paints would spread and mix in different ways. While you have some control over the spreading and mixing, the paint has a “mind of its own”! And, the most fantastic designs appear.  Some artists enjoy creating this type of art as a change from their usual techniques simply because they don’t have any control about the outcome! It’s always fun and a surprise!

Tammy and Lois will also show you the most important thing to know about a “pour”: what mediums to use, which paints give the best results, and what kind of additives to create a successful “pour” every time.

Supply List:

Bring 3-4 stretched canvas to pour on.

Small sizes as example: 8×10, 9×12, 12×12,11×14*** ,12×16.

***   11×14 canvas will be available for purchase at class.

Lois Perdue Abstract Artist:

Lois Perdue has lived in Florida her entire life. She graduated from Florida International University and spent much of her career in the fields of public relations and journalism. In 2007 after retiring, she began a lifelong dream of painting.  A consistent award winner at the local, state and national levels she most recently received a first-place award at Bonnet House’s Impressions Exhibit 2019, Gold Coast Watercolor Society’s Florida Focus 2018 “Best in Show” award and signature membership. Lois also received Florida Watercolor Society’s “2018 Art Societies” award.

Several years ago, in response to a question she is most often asked, “how do you begin an abstract painting”, she responded by starting to teach a workshop course in the South Florida area to organizations, art guilds and businesses for employee therapy! She teaches all levels from traditional artists who want to learn how to paint in an abstract style to new artists. One group to which she belongs raises funds for Broward College young women’s art scholarships.

Lois is involved in numerous art guilds and societies whose purpose it is to educate and inform the community about art: Florida and Gold Coast Water Color Societies, Bonnet House Museum, Coral Springs, Weston, Plantation and Broward Art Guilds, International Society of Experimental Artists and National League of American Pen Women, Fort Lauderdale Branch.

Lois tells The Rickie Report, ” I use my feelings, fantasy and imagination combined with colors, shapes, materials and concepts to design and create my unique way of expressing myself through Abstract Art”. She begins many of her paintings on a synthetic Japanese paper called Yupo that when combined with watercolor and acrylic paints explode with vibrant color. Her paintings often have between 10-15 layers of paint and collage to create depth and dimension in the landscape abstract art she creates. Often, she begins her artwork intuitively, sometimes instinctively. “It is a very personal journey I take when I paint that hopefully, conveys a variety of emotions in viewers.”

She is represented by Heritage Gallery and Framing, Tamarac, FL.

Tammy Seymour,  Watermedia Artist  Wet and Wild:

After working in corporate sales for 30 years, Tammy had time to express her passion for watermedia. Initially she was a self-taught artist with an inherited talent from her father, who was a dedicated landscape artist. Tammy developed her own style.  A resident of Fort Lauderdale, Tammy’s art reflects her environment with its incredible range of rich and sun-drenched colors and abundant wildlife.

Tammy’s prize-winning paintings are inspired by the local nature around her as well as her travels to the U.S. National Parks and abroad. She often paints using photos from her travels and will have a camera close by to capture her next subject.  Personal dedication to environmental conservation led Tammy to initially paint turtles as a major subject matter. This choice was due to their plight for survival. Tammy became known as the “Turtle Lady”!  Her fascination and love of wildlife has expanded to painting the colorful birds of Florida and majestic animals of Africa.

Tammy tells The Rickie Report,” I am an artist whom expresses the WET and WILD experiences of nature in watermedia.  I am inspired by nature, wildlife and the beauty that surrounds us.  When I paint, I seek to capture the personality and quirkiness of my animals starting with their eyes. The eyes resonate with my core and when I can bring them to life, I feel I have created a new magical creature.  Adding a splash of wild color makes everything a bit more beautiful and gives life to these wondrous creatures.  Painting with watercolors, acrylics or gouache allows me the freedom to express myself where my intuition guides me on any given day”.
