February 17-18   SESSION I –   “WATERCOLOR IMPRESSIONS – FLOWERS TO LANDSCAPE”

9 am – 4 pm    $300

Fresh flowers in the studio will be the inspiration for the beginning of this workshop.  Janet will demonstrate various “fun” exercises geared to interpret flowers in a loose and expressive manner.  Discovering the unique “nature” of individual flowers and “finding” new colors will be highlighted.  We will also explore how to interpret the landscape from photos in an impressionistic style.  Demonstrations and individual help will weave throughout the workshop, with an emphasis on letting the medium of watercolor lead the students to new adventures in watercolor.  (PLEIN AIR – in studio!)  Some goals include “keeping the whites”, avoiding “mud”, intuitive color and composition.  Besides working with students individually and class demos, Janet and attendees  will enjoy “Show and Tell” – and opportunity to see class work together and enjoy!

ALL LEVELS WELCOME

February  19,20,21   SESSION II –  “WATERCOLOR IMPRESSIONS – THE HEAD & FIGURE”

9 am – 4 pm  $375

This dynamic workshop is designed to enable participants to quickly gain confidence in approaching the portrait and figure in a more spontaneous, intuitive and expressive way.  Demonstrations, class instruction, individual assistance, “show and tell”, and a series of “fun” exercises, (which will include drawing, color and paint application) will weave into class painting time.  Special emphasis will be on achieving a fresh look of translucent flesh tones in the portrait with unique color changes, which will add to the excitement of capturing the essence of the subject.  Many “features” will be covered, including an approach to children’s portraits.  No fear in this workshop – drawing help is available – no matter what level. Students will have an opportunity to work from their photographs or Janet’s and also the opportunity to paint in a gestural and intuitive manner from the live model for ½ of the last day.  Our goals will be to “see” in new ways — bringing “life” and interpretation to the portrait and figure, and to discover intuitive color and design.

ALL LEVELS WELCOME

PAUL   JACKSON

February 24 -26

Paul’s focus for this workshop will be to guide you through a painting from beginning to end, as you paint together a stunning image of dramatic light and luminosity. You may choose to follow along and work on the same image, or find another subject entirely. Paul will happily work with you through whatever subject you choose.  Paint with Paul and he’ll help you reach the next level of artistic confidence and ability as he guides you through a painting, illustrating the principles of design, color, value, composition and the mechanics of watercolor.  Through informal lectures, discussions, demonstrations and critiques you refine your personal painting style. Come prepared to be entertained, make new artist friends and find logical and creative answers to your watercolor problems.

Paul will demonstrate the versatility of watercolor paint. You will learn…

  • How to work in thin layers of washes to build up luminous colors.

  • How to plan the entire picture area

  • The importance of thinking through the composition, good division of shapes, value planning,

  • What to communicate about your subject

  • How to correct mistakes.

“Perfect Curves” by Paul Jackson

Paul will lead you step-by-step with demonstrations of the painting process.   If watercolor is your passion, then this highly energized painting workshop is for you! Paul’s stress-free, positive approach toward the act of painting will inspire you to loosen up and have fun again. Expect an intense, concentrated and lively workshop where you will elevate your understanding of watercolor.

Beginners are always welcome!

RHEA LEWIS PHOTOGRAPHY

Warrior Goddess Movement:

A Healing Photo Journey for Breast Cancer Survivors

Exhibit runs April 1 – 30, 2019

Benefits:

MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER
and
LIGHTHOUSE DRAGONS SOS

The purpose of Rhea’s charity project is being able to help breast cancer survivors see their beauty in a new way, to get comfortable in their own skin, and to redefine and re-connect who they are as woman after their diagnosis. It’s not about showing their scars and the ugly side of cancer, but about forgetting their scars, celebrating their beauty as women no matter what their new body looks like.  The imagery is truly a representation of the beautiful inner light that all women share and it reminds them that the scars don’t define them.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer:

The American Cancer Society has a presence in more than 3,400 communities across the country and is the only organization available 24 hours a day, seven days aweek to help people touched by cancer. Breast cancer is the number one reason people call the Society. When you support Making Strides, you are helping the Society seek better ways to prevent, detect, and treat breast cancer, as well as provide help and hope to people facing the disease.

Lighthouse Dragons SOS:

Lighthouse Dragons is a dragon boat team composed of breast cancer survivors and their supporters. We promote a healthy and life affirming activity through the sport of dragon boating. Each of us is a powerful example that one can lead a full and active life after a diagnosis of breast cancer.

Lucio Chiurulla, Master Italian Sculptor

The Lighthouse ArtCenter is excited to announce the two-week stone carving workshop by Italian sculptor, Lucio Chiurulla in March 2019. Mr. Chiurulla will be in Tequesta from his native Italy for the two-week workshop.  The workshop is from March 25 – April 5, 2019. This course will focus on marble and stone, two materials that are still carved employing the traditional technique that has been used for many centuries, especially in Italy, since the Greeks and the Romans, and even before them.

A sculptor of twenty-five year experience with marbles, granites and stones, Mr. Chiurulla studied at the Art School and Accademia of Belle Arti in Perugia (Italy), did his own research on Ancient Roman, Greek and Medieval statues and mosaics acquiring specific marble carving techniques. He currently has his studio near the Trasimeno Lake in the Italian region of Umbria, where he lives and works.

The workshop program will revolve around a few basic concepts and rules regarding the making of a stone sculpture in the traditional way, using the chisel and the mallet. You will be practicing a technique that has been the same for many centuries – if not millenniums – but that can now be widely reinterpreted and adjusted in the light of modern conception of “art” and the personal feelings of each sculpture.

Each student will be provided a carving table, a piece of Italian soft stone, access to electricity and will work under a covered tent. Demonstrations and group/individual instruction will be provided of the step by step process of the stone removal process, through sanding and polishing and making a finished sculpture including a base.create your own

Lunch can be arranged each day. Kits of sculpting tools will also be available for sale in the school store. All levels from beginners to advanced welcome.
