Third Annual Summer In Paradise Transforms West Palm Beach Waterfront Into Artistic Storybook Setting

The City of West Palm Beach will celebrate the return of its popular Summer in Paradise (S.I.P) annual celebration beginning June 1 through August 31, 2017. This free, summer-long promotion will transport residents and visitors into a colorful collection of classic tales and treasured life-lessons along the waterfront. New elements include the debut of Aesop’s Tables, a whimsical art installation featuring 25 picnic tables painted to depict one of Aesop’s fables. A direct tie to Mayor Jeri Muonio’s pledge declaring West Palm Beach as a City of Kindness, the storybook setting provides an opportunity for all to connect, explore local art, share their own stories and enjoy family friendly activities on the West Palm Beach waterfront.  The Rickie Report shares the details. ENJOY!

NEW ART INSTALLATION ON THE WATERFRONT
Presented by the City of West Palm Beach Art in Public Places, Aesop’s Tables celebrates the talents of local artists and features 25 painted picnic tables illustrating a timeless Aesop fable, such as The Boy Who Cried Wolf, Tortoise and the Hare, and more. Just as Aesop’s fables have reached across centuries, continents and cultures, Aesop’s Tables invites visitors to enjoy light-hearted lessons, laughter and conversations on the waterfront. The summer long outdoor art installation makes its waterfront debut on Thursday, June 1, 2017 during the S.I.P kickoff at Clematis by Night. Additional programming for the art installation will include nightly music and pop-up performances, storytelling, poetry readings, games and interactive programming all summer long and a weekly Aesop’s Tables Artist Showcase at the Waterfront Visitor Center.

Art Synergy is a 501 (c) 3, not for profit arts organization founded in 2013. The fruit of the labors of Rolando Chang Barrero, Craig McInnis and Freddy Hennevelt grew out of the original Think Tank,. It has flourished through grassroots efforts beginning with a partnership with Art Palm Beach.  Currently, Rolando Chang Barrero, President and Ilene Gruber Adams, Vice President are managing the organization along with the support of many artists and art lovers in the community. Volunteers and board members are always welcome.

By March 2017, Art Synergy will have organized 6 juried exhibition that have provided Florida based artists to have their work seen, and collected by national and international collectors and art patrons. Also, Art Synergy assists nine Florida art districts organize, promote and market over 65 exhibitions in each year throughout the Palm Beach and Martin County durning Art Palm Beach week which was initiated January 2014.

The nine art districts are: Antique Row Art District,Boynton Beach Art District,Delray Art Art District,Lake ParkArt District,North Palm Beach Art District,Lake Worth Art District,Northwood Village Art District,West Palm Beach Art District,Palm Beach Art District.

In 2016 Art Synergy was classified as a 501 (c) 3 not for profit arts organization which will allow for contributions and donations to a fund currently being created to allow needy families join experiential cultural experiences. This was possible because of the generosity of David and Lee Ann Lester of Next Level Fairs who donate exhibition spaces (Booths) at 2 of the Next Level Fairs: Art Palm Beach and Art Boca Raton.

ART SYNERGY is a countywide movement to unify and promote the diverse culture of our vibrant arts community. ART SYNERGY’s future goals include events that will happen periodically throughout the year, the addition of more participating art districts, and initiatives that help unify the many diverse art entities, and talented artists that Palm Beach County has to offer. With the help of local CRAs, Public Arts Departments, the DDA in WPB and the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County (to name a few), ART SYNERGY has only one place to go… onward and upward.

“Unconditionally Dogs” Works By Skip Hartzell Opens At Arthouse 429 December 10

ARTHOUSE429 invites you to “Unconditionally Dogs” by artist, Skip Hartzell. The Opening Reception takes place on Thursday, December 10th.  Don’t go expecting dog portraits!  His renditions are of familiar imagery, often drawn from memory. In a series of large works on paper, Hartzell employs his intuitive sense of spirited compositions as he builds up layers of Flashe (a vinyl-based professional grade matte paint) and graphite to create the drawing and then he fills in the blanks. Hartzell’s sculptures are just as spirited and intuitively created.  Skip is a longtime supporter of no-kill animal rescues and has been a dedicated sponsor of Big Dog Ranch Rescue. During opening night, Hartzell has generously offered to donate specially selected dog sculptures to anyone that donates a minimum of $250 to Big Dog Ranch Rescue. Additionally, a generous portion of all sales of his other work will be donated to the Ranch. The Rickie Report shares the details and some sneak peeks.

100% of the sale of selected sculptures & 40% of all other sales of Hartzell’s work will go to Big Dog Ranch Rescue.  Big Dog Ranch Rescue is the largest no-kill dog rescue in the Southeastern United States. Hartzell is a longtime supporter of no-kill animal rescues and has been a dedicated sponsor of Big Dog Ranch Rescue. He and his wife have adopted several dogs from the organization.

Bigger Muse 60x42 Skip Hartzell

“Bigger Muse” by Skip Hartzell

Described by art critic Bruce Helander as “This gifted painter’s delightful new works are inventive depictions of man’s best friend, Hartzell channels his passion for canines into a must-see body of work. These dogs far transcend their chosen form through truly impressive style and technique. The passion of the artist and the love of dogs in unlimited configurations are joined to make a fascinating presentation of pictures with an obvious aristocratic appearance and a recognizable common denominator.”

Expecting 22x30 SkipHartzell

“Expecting” by Skip Hartzell

Hartzell’s work is definitely not dog portraits; they are renditions of familiar imagery, often times drawn from memory. In a series of large works on paper, Hartzell employs his intuitive sense of spirited compositions as he builds up layers of Flashe (a vinyl-based professional grade matte paint) and graphite to create the drawing and then he more or less fills in the blanks. In other works, notably his sculptural arrangements, Hartzell has developed a successful formula of papier-mâché mix coated with aqua resin, and often supported with a fusion of diluted cement and an inside wire armature that takes on an abstract shape.

Bubba 60x42 Skip Hartzell

“Bubba” by Skip Hartzell

“Dogs are always in the moment”. Hartzell said. “Although nothing in life has held my attention or has been more fascinating to me than dogs, my art is about more than that. My work is about form, movement, color and texture. The dogs are a recognizable image that permits me to explore my emotions, passions and sentiments. Making art for me is intuitive; it is very much like walking my dogs. I am always excited and waiting to see where the dogs want to go.”

It's a Very Fine Day 60x48 Skip Hartzell

Skip is a longtime supporter of no-kill animal rescues and has been a dedicated sponsor of Big Dog Ranch Rescue. He and his wife have adopted several dogs from the organization. During opening night, Hartzell has generously offered to donate specially selected dog sculptures to anyone that donates a minimum of $250 to Big Dog Ranch Rescue.
