Paul Fisher established his eponymously named gallery in 1990 with his purchase of the Flamingo Building, a 7500sf historic building located near the Norton Museum in the heart of West Palm Beach.  For most of 1990’s Fisher travelled the globe with his friend and mentor Dale Chihuly selling his work and consulting on major projects. Paul was also a protégé of the great Henry Geldzahler and in the early 90’s traveled with him internationally as a Cultural Attaché for the U.S. Information Agency. Upon meeting and marrying his artist wife Irina in 2001, he set down roots and began regular exhibitions. The gallery is known for showing a balance of 20th Century masters and young and emerging talent. Fisher also operates exhibition spaces at the celebrated Brazilian Court Hotel in Palm Beach and in Wynwood Miami at the Ogetti Building. He exhibits at major art fairs as well.

“What Lies Beyond” by Robin Wolfenden

“What Lies Beyond” is her entry for the All Florida Juried Art Show- original art print on metal- 16×24

Robin Wolfenden tells The Rickie Report, “After a fulfilling career as a wall covering designer, I’ve continued my artistic pursuits in a variety of mediums. My style is decorative, as I’m inspired by my surroundings and personal journey, creating a look full of light, color and optimism”.

Robin graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.  She worked in New York in the garment district as a fabric designer before moving to Cleveland, Ohio with her husband to raise their family. Robin continued her career in fabric and wall covering, and by the 1980’s, she was head stylist for the high end wall covering division of Imperial Wallcoverings.

“Waterlilies” is an oil painting from Dennis Aufiery’s class- he said this was my break thru painting!

Robin began printing her wall coverings at a factory in Milan, Italy to insure the quality effect she desired. She says, “I travelled to Milan often to print my collections and attended design exhibitions throughout Europe. Jannelli & Volpi, an Italian wall covering company, then hired me as their stylist and North American Product Manager. In 2008, my husband and I retired to West Palm Beach, Florida, where I re-established my love for painting. I found the Armory Art Center and started taking art classes again, which I hadn’t done since college. I studied figure drawing and oil painting under Dennis Aufiery. I was introduced to the natural and intriguing qualities of mosaics. I then discovered Nihonga through Hiromi Katayama”.

“The Blossoming of the Gift” by Robin Wolfenden is 48×48 and hangs in the lobby of The Consulate at The Lands of the President- Nihonga

“Nihonga”, Robin explains, “is a Japanese style of painting which uses brilliant natural pigments that are made from pulverized semi precious stones which I grind by hand and mix with an animal based collagen from Japan. The pigments are applied in varying degrees of intensity and transparency. I began experimenting with them over a colorful textured acrylic base, which allows the colors to play against each other. I’ve begun adding my own pigmented and batik resist washi papers in a collage effect to add even more interest and dimension. I have had the unique opportunity to teach this process at the West Palm Beach Library”.

Robin Wolfenden at Continuum 2018

Robin’s journey continues as she further expand her art techniques by expressing her creativity through play. She relates, “I may dance and sing before painting to bring positive energy and excitement into my art. I have given myself the opportunity to play with color and explore new materials I hadn’t tried before.  My latest works were created as a result of a blindfolded painting experience where I painted freely with tempera paints. I created original prints from my palette, experimenting with viscosity and movement, positive and negative space, and color placement. The prints were enlarged and printed on a glossy metal to enhance their luminosity. These pieces were selected to be a part of the Continuum Art Fair in West Palm Beach in January and won the People’s Choice award”!

“Cascade” by Robin Wolfenden is a diptych- Nihonga

I believe in the beauty and power of personal expression. My artwork has been shown at the Armory Art Center, Rosenbaum Art Gallery in Boca Raton, and Armand Bolling Fine Art in Jupiter. It is included in private collections in Florida, New York, Arizona, Connecticut, and Tennessee. Currently my work can be found throughout the lobby of the Consulate at Lands of the President in West Palm Beach and in Nashville at Art & Invention Gallery and Modern Remains Design Atelier.

Irene Jalowayski’s “Fly Away” Is Featured At Continuum Art Palm Beach 2019 And Upcoming Classes

Irene Jalowayski‘s hand made glass creations have truly taken flight, as her newest cast glass wall art, “Fly Away” will be one of the featured artworks at Continuum / Art Palm Beach 2019.  Irene’s increasingly detailed process as a glass artist shows the degree to which she has pushed herself to stretch boundaries, and in glass work, that is challenging!  The viewer can feel the excitement of her creative process.  In addition to Continuum, Irene sells her work at Artisans On The Ave in Lake Worth. She teaches at McMow Art Glass and at The Craft Gallery.  The Rickie Report brings you her most recent creations and urges everyone to stop by to see them in person or sign up for a class

Lace Glass Vase by Irene Jalowayski

Florida native, Irene Jalowayski works primarily in fused glass, cast glass, and mixed media. Her most recent cast glass creation, “Fly Away” will be one of the featured one-of-a-kind art pieces at Continuum 2019, during Art Palm Beach2019.  Her fused art glass pieces are filled with colorful dichroic glass mixed in bright, beautiful backgrounds. The viewer can feel the excitement of the creative process!

Rainbow Menorah by Irene Jalowayski

Irene’s abstract sculptures will enhance any decor.  Irene’s functional art pieces include cast glass jewelry boxes, bowls, vases, plates of varying sizes, and small accent tables. Her Judaica array includes mezzuzahs, candle sticks, menorahs, matzah plates, and she offers to create a unique bowl using the shards of the glass which is broken during the wedding ceremony!

Fused glass birds wall hanging by Irene Jalowayski

In 2013, Irene was featured as an emerging artist at ArtiGras. She studied with Sidney Escowitz and has taken classes with McMow Art Glass and Art Glass Environments, before becoming a teacher herself!  She never loses sight of the creative excitement when she open a kiln.  She shares that enthusiasm with her students.

Brass blue bracelet by Irene Jalowayski

Irene’s jewelry pieces are distinctive. Her wearable art pieces include one-of-a-kind necklaces, earrings, and cuff bracelets.  Each object is truly unique, not only due to the glass work, but because she understands the wearer’s need to own a singular adornment.

Commissioned glass bowl with blue glass shards from wedding ceremony, by Irene Jalowayski

Her personal glass collection in includes creations from the United States, Italy, and Sweden. Irene’s inspiration comes from nature and her own imagination, as you will see with “Fly Away”.  The process of casting glass is complicated and more difficult than that of fused glass.  First, Irene makes a clay sculpture. Over the weeks that it takes to dry, she will continue to incise, brush, and assure that the mold is exact.  Then she casts the mold in plaster.  Once the plaster is dry, the mold is filled with glass and fired to 450 degrees for 38 hours.  Once cooled, the mold is broken away from the glass, resulting in a solid piece of glass which will never be reproduced!
