“Color Of Jazz ” Archival Dye-Infused Photograph On Aluminum by Paul Solovay

Barbara Krupp, living in both Ohio and Vero Beach,  has exhibited nationally and internationally in galleries and museums and her work can be found in many private collections, including the University of Tampa, who purchased fifty-three of her paintings. Originally trained as an x-ray technician, she likes to quote T.S. Eliot, “I have seen the skull beneath the skin.” The structure of the painting is very important to her, as she allows the bones of the painting – both computationally and metaphorically, become the painting’s subject matter.

“Wiki Wacky Widget” by Barbara Krupp

Paul Solovay, living in both Upstate New York and Vero Beach, spent nearly thirty years as a top creative talent in advertising, creating many award-winning commercials.  His Pepsi commercial “Bringing Home Baby” is in the Smithsonian Museum and the Broadcast Museum in NYC.  His ‘Active Camera’ photographs translate musical sound waves into light waves, capturing the high energy of performance.  His new series “Time Capsules of the 20th Century” feature multi-media assemblages with sound tracks and ephemera through the decades.

This call is open to artists in Martin County, St. Lucie County, Palm Beach County, Okeechobee County and Indian River County. The Deadline is Sunday, December 10th and four winners will be announced on Friday, December 15th.  All artists are encouraged to apply, whether professional, emerging or hobbyist. A total of four winners will be selected in any of the following categories: Figure, Wildlife, Botanical, Still-Life, Landscape and Abstract.  Previous winners have received commissions and additional sales of their artwork.  The Rickie Report shares the details and peek at previous images.

Call    to    Artists!

2024   Storefront   Art   Showcase

Each year, The Gilt Complex invites local artists from Martin and the surrounding counties to enter for the chance to have their art digitally framed and showcased on the showroom windows throughout the next year. This has become a highly anticipated event and all artists are encouraged to apply, whether professional, emerging or hobbyist. A total of four winners will be selected in any of the following categories: Figure, Wildlife, Botanical, Still-Life, Landscape and Abstract.

The contest runs through Sunday, December 10th.

Winners will be announced on Friday, December 15th.

Submit one, two, or three entries, with an entry fee of $10 per submission.

**Please note that all entries must be high-res jpegs in a portrait orientation**

Portrait orientation is important!

Landscape or square art won’t fit properly in the windows.

Details can be found at the link below.

https://www.thegiltcomplex.com/2024-storefront-art-showcase

With between 80 and 100 entries, typically, every year the art submitted and the resulting windows are different, so there’s no clear advice that can be given about what type of art or look has the best chance of being selected. They balance the four selections against one another in terms of color, texture and subject. It all depends on what is submitted and, therefore, what they have to work with.

Katie Gianni tells The Rickie Report, “Some years ten winners could easily be chosen, while other years they struggle to find that perfect fit. Therefore, their advice boils down to this: send the best representation of your art that will pop off the windows and into the hearts of passersby”.

This year, The Gilt Complex has moved the contest to an entirely digital format. Just click the link below to their website page explaining the rules and further details. At the bottom of that page is a link to the entry form. You upload your images into that form and pay the fee directly from the form.  The Gilt Complex encourages anyone with any interest in publicly showcasing their art in Stuart to enter.

Don’t hesitate to contact them directly if you have any questions about the contest. Call Katie Gianni at 772-463-0125 or email her at katie@thegiltcomplex.com.

Gores’ lush collage portraits capture an escapist tranquility, a nostalgic yet contemporary feeling of the good life by the coast.  In his newest body of work for Gallery 14, Gores takes a deeper exploration into his dreamlike surrealism.  New subjects include a chess board, a vinyl record and a sweet treat or two, in addition to the floating swimmers, shoes and cocktails for which he is known.  At first we see fashionable scenes of tropical bliss, but, closer inspection of his collage technique reveals an alluring spectrum of elements used to build his pictures.

“Sea of Tranquility” by Derek Gores

For this show, Gores has used many objects and textures inspired by life in Vero Beach.  Hundreds of snapshots of local flowers and foliage, shells and waves, vintage postcards, Lilly Pulitzer patterns, and so many more hidden gems can be discovered at each glance.  His sense of color has really gone next level this time – a nearly neon tropical wave of joy.  His title, Piece of Mind, is a playful nod to the artist’s approach.  Gores is a specialist in being present.  He explores, gathers elements and inspirations, and combines them to form a sort of zen narrative.  The story is on the canvas for us to piece together.  His client list includes Tag Heuer, Loews South Beach, E! Entertainment, and more.  He was honored to be the first ever Artist in Residence at the Hotel Bel-Air, where Marilyn Monroe had her last photo shoot.
