“Celebrating  Nature”

Paintings by Reed Dixon

Opening  Reception:

Friday,  April 5,  2024

 5 – 8 pm

Artist, Reed Dixon

 This exhibit runs April 2 – April 26, 2024

Gallery 14 is happy to welcome back mixed media artist Reed Dixon. Celebrating Nature: Paintings by Reed Dixon” once again showcases his bright, imaginative and captivating images of flowers and birds.

Reed Dixon’s “Tutti-Frutti”, acrylic painting size: 24 x 30

Reed currently lives and works in Boynton Beach, FL. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, he studied graphic design and fine arts at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He was originally a Hallmark Card designer and illustrator. Later on, after spending years in the ad business (while always painting) Reed opened Dixon Graphics, a graphic design and fine arts studio. His work has been exhibited in the Society of Illustrators Show in New York City and for the past fifty years he has been widely shown and can be found in several corporate and private collections.

Reed Dixon’s “Windy Day”, acrylic painting size: 22 x 28

According to Reed: “ I call it imagery. By that I mean the end result is not necessarily a study of the subject, but how I feel the subject should look in the end.  I’ve always felt the need to experiment with paints, mixed media applications, colors, textures and subject matter. I’m never short on inspiration to capture what fascinates me.”

Call    to    Artists!

2024   Storefront   Art   Showcase

Each year, The Gilt Complex invites local artists from Martin and the surrounding counties to enter for the chance to have their art digitally framed and showcased on the showroom windows throughout the next year. This has become a highly anticipated event and all artists are encouraged to apply, whether professional, emerging or hobbyist. A total of four winners will be selected in any of the following categories: Figure, Wildlife, Botanical, Still-Life, Landscape and Abstract.

The contest runs through Sunday, December 10th.

Winners will be announced on Friday, December 15th.

Submit one, two, or three entries, with an entry fee of $10 per submission.

**Please note that all entries must be high-res jpegs in a portrait orientation**

Portrait orientation is important!

Landscape or square art won’t fit properly in the windows.

Details can be found at the link below.

https://www.thegiltcomplex.com/2024-storefront-art-showcase

With between 80 and 100 entries, typically, every year the art submitted and the resulting windows are different, so there’s no clear advice that can be given about what type of art or look has the best chance of being selected. They balance the four selections against one another in terms of color, texture and subject. It all depends on what is submitted and, therefore, what they have to work with.

Katie Gianni tells The Rickie Report, “Some years ten winners could easily be chosen, while other years they struggle to find that perfect fit. Therefore, their advice boils down to this: send the best representation of your art that will pop off the windows and into the hearts of passersby”.

This year, The Gilt Complex has moved the contest to an entirely digital format. Just click the link below to their website page explaining the rules and further details. At the bottom of that page is a link to the entry form. You upload your images into that form and pay the fee directly from the form.  The Gilt Complex encourages anyone with any interest in publicly showcasing their art in Stuart to enter.

Don’t hesitate to contact them directly if you have any questions about the contest. Call Katie Gianni at 772-463-0125 or email her at katie@thegiltcomplex.com.

“It Was All A Dream” by Jessica Leto

Jessica’s work is both ethereal and haunting, as she explores the relationships between color, space and movement, often incorporating the sheen of gold leaf with intuitive strokes and experimental mark making.  She holds a BA in Studio Art from Florida Atlantic University, and has a background in graphic design.  Originally from Virginia, Jessica is now rooted in Vero Beach, FL.,

“Sharing The Love” by Evan Schwarze

Evan, who was raised in Dayton Ohio as the son of an art critic and English literature teacher, holds a BFA from Columbus College of Art and Design.  With work ranging from representational to abstract, Evan applies paint to canvas with brush and palette knife using transparent glazes and thick opaque strokes – creating vibrations of light.  He is especially known for his impressionistic style that transforms us to tropical waters.
