Sunset Landscape by Charles Moses

The current featured artist at Wellington Whole Foods Gallery is self- taught artist Charles Moses.  Born and raised in Palm Beach County, he received a Business Administration degree from Northwood University.  Charles began his career in Information Technology working in the Northeast for several years.  Many of his paintings reflect his time there, with his landscapes of lighthouses and fall colors.

Seascape by Charles Moses

Charles’s love of art began with a picture he painted for his mother who urged him to continue with his painting.  He received encouragement from all his art teachers in school.  After retiring he was able to devote full time to his art and experiment with various subjects.  Today he works mainly with oil on canvas painting portraits, landscapes and seascapes with music playing in the background.  He likes to incorporate “See the Music” in all his work. Charles’s exhibit will be on display until April 30, 2020.

“Boxed In’ By Candace Platz

The Wellington Art Society is pleased to announce the next artist for the Whole Foods Market solo art show will be Wellington artist Candace Platz. Candace will have up to 20 paintings on display at the café of the Wellington Whole Foods Market from November 1, 2019 through January 31, 2020.

Candace Platz’s unique painting style results from her lifelong pursuit of many and varied passions–from veterinary medicine to kabbalistic mysticism, from technical diving to Grand Prix dressage, from poetry to animal welfare—the list goes on and she continues to add to it.

“Our Bubble” by Candace Platz

Born in Bangor, Maine, Candace studied oil painting for ten years with William Möise, an abstract impressionist whose close connections with Wilhelm Reich influenced the eccentricity of his teaching.  Moise was adamant that Candace should never “paint for anyone’s living room walls,” and challenged her to paint upside down, or while looking in a mirror, or using a match book cover instead of a brush as examples of the techniques to prevent “painting to placate.”

Candace was also influenced by her years of study with J. Palmer Libby, a more conventional teacher and accomplished student of Joseph Sheppard whose stylized realism was a sharp contrast to Möise.  Winner of a juried statewide competition, Candace was awarded a session at the Haystack-Hinckley School, where she studied lithography, sculpture, oil crayons and pastels. She studied watercolor and charcoal at the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston. Her use of acrylic mediums is recent.  Also a writer, poet, portrait photographer and stage designer, Candace has displayed her work at venues including the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, DC. Her selection as the featured artist at the Whole Foods Cafe Show marks the 67-year old artist’s first solo exhibit.

“Night Mares” by Candace Platz

Candace’s intimate knowledge of things equine is firmly rooted in her careers as a veterinary clinician/surgeon and nationally-ranked adult amateur Grand Prix dressage competitor.  The undersea world is also a frequent theme in her work, as well as cats, birds, trees and other natural forms and landscapes.  Candace’s interest in the inter-relations among all beings and their environment is nurtured by her years of studying Non-Dual Kabbalistic Healing with Jinen Jason Shulman. Other influences include aboriginal Australian artist Margaret Chatfield, shamanist artist Eve Goetz and various Cuban artists including Carlos Guzman, Jose Füster, and the Brito sisters.

Proceeds from the sale of several of Candace’s paintings on display will go to welfare organizations, including The Brooke, The Equine Welfare Alliance and similar groups dedicated to the humane treatment of animals. Inquiries about this program are welcomed, as are requests for commissioned pieces.

Sandra Encaoua was born in Paris and is a well known and acclaimed artist in France and many other European countries.  She began painting and drawing as a young girl, teaching herself to mix several mediums until she had the prefect effect she wanted.  She graduated from a Parisian school of art.

Sandra tells The Rickie Report, ” Sometimes I create with watercolors when I want a quick expression of the moment, but I work mainly in oils on large canvases, as I like the transparency and vibration of the oils”.   Her semi-abstract paintings reflect Sandra’s love of nature and raw elements.  Her landscapes and portraits are a mixture of flaming red with sparking white and bright turquoise.  Her paintings infer strength, vitality and gentleness.

“Fragile” by Sandra Encaoua

Sandra won the 2013 competition of Young Talent in France, was the featured 2015 “Artist of the Day” on the famous website Saatchi Art and won the 2017 French Award Arts-Sciences-Letters of the French Academy of Arts-Sciences-Letters in Paris.  She has just recently had an exhibition at the famous Kinor Gallery in Paris and will have another in Paris in July 2019. Bobbin, originally from New York, has an Associates Degree in Art from Nassau Community College and also studied art at Mallory University.  She has attended classes and workshops in New York and Florida.  She has painted all her life, first in oil and now in watercolor and acrylics after her three year old ruined a number of oil paintings.  She loves painting things in nature: flowers, ocean and trees and never goes anywhere without her paints, brushes and lots of paper!  She enjoys realistic painting but continues to evolve into her own style, trying new products and techniques to produce colorful abstract works.

“Golden Note” by Marilyn Bobbin Salisbury

Bobbin is a Signature Member of the Palm Beach Watercolor Society and the Wellington Art Society.  She participates in all of their exhibits as well as others, including on line competitions. “Self Portrait”  Oil on canvas by Buu Truong.  Trying a looser and less representational style, I chose Modigliani as my inspiration for this self-portrait.

Buu Truong, as a young child, came with her family to America from Vietnam and settled in Orlando where she grew up. She graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Computer Engineering and worked as a computer programmer and manager for many years.  After a time, she became unhappy in her job and felt something important was missing in her life. She began painting to relieve stress and found her passion. She left her sixteen year old career in order to pursue a degree in the visual arts!

“Onward and Upward” by Buu Truong. Mixed media including pen and watercolor pencil.

The title of this piece, “Onward and Upward”, refers to the idea that the stairs are a means to move forward. Buu says, “For this piece, I had two main goals – apply the design element of space and experiment with a new medium, watercolor pencils. The artwork was created using mixed media – pen and watercolor pencils. The design element of space is applied using one-point perspective across multiple planes. The steps, which are parallel to the ground plane, converge towards a single vanishing point on the horizon line. However, the rails, which are parallel to the incline of the stairs, converge towards another vanishing point above the original horizon line”.

“Trees for Farmlands” by Buu Truong.  Woodcut print on paper with gouache

Buu explains, “This piece is about cause and effect of deforestation. One of the main causes for destroying forests is clearing the land for farmlands. The campfire represents the manmade destruction.  This is one out of an edition of 10 woodcut prints”.

Buu is presently enrolled at Florida Atlantic University working toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting. Buu is obsessed with increasing her technical skills and accuracy when it comes to exploring form, texture, color and light. Her work has been exhibited at the South Side Cultural Arts Center in Fort Lauderdale, Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers and the Coral Springs Museum of Art. She has been awarded a Wellington Art Society Scholarship and a Rothenberger Scholarship.

“Path To Art” by Buu Trong.  Gouache on Paper

Buu shares, “There are many parallels between running and art-making. Through the training and discipline required to run, I realized that anything can be learned. From this point, my world grew and eventually led me on my art path”.  She tells The Rickie Report, “This exhibit explores my journey in becoming an artist, from before I even knew I wanted to be an artist, until now”.

Through her art she is able to offer different parts of her personality.  Her serious adult side is shown through her watercolors and her playful child side shows in her soft batik paintings.  She feels working in acrylics brings out her philosophical side which shows in her black and white series.

“Snowbirds” by Maria Lentine

Maria worked and traveled with Club Med for five years teaching English and found that no matter what country she was visiting, the sunrises and sunsets and the tranquility of the tropical landscape were a constant and gave her peace.  Since then she has worked with designers and clients creating hand painted fabrics, murals, commissioned paintings and directing art galleries.

“Awake At Dawn and Give Thanks for another day of  loving” by Maria Lentine

After a severe accident, Maria’s painting arm was crushed and reconstructed.  She found that painting and jewelry making served as a healing method in regaining her mobility and motor skills.  She also discovered yoga was able to aid in her rehab and it became a transformative experience.

“Yoga and art are who I am and my intention is to continue sharing this with others.”

“Deep Calls To Deep” by Lynn Doyal

Lynn Doyal is showcasing her unique, beautiful and contemporary work for at this  exhibit. Lynn combines hand stitching, beading, oil and acrylic paint all done on canvas. Due to the intricate number of details in each painting, her work is best viewed up close in order to appreciate the fine workmanship. Many of her works are scanned, enlarged and digitalized allowing for a more abstract and dramatic component. She delights in the different impact the same image can have when size is introduced as an additional element.

Lynn was born and raised in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. She received a Fine Arts degree from the University of South Florida.  She worked for Exxon at their New York headquarters and then transferred to Florida.  Working in corporate sales, she then moved to Xerox before starting her own company, “Signature Chocolates”.  Lynn specialized in providing premiums and incentives to corporations, hotels and cruise lines, around the globe.

“Blues” by Lynn Doyal

After raising her family, Lynn resumed her creative endeavors and developed her unique method of marrying contemporary design with old school techniques on canvas. Her original pieces of exquisite handstiching and detail can best be appreciated up close. When her designs are enlarged they make for a more abstract and dramatic component. The same image can have a different impact when size is introduced as an element.  “This marriage of image, technique and materials is distinctive and causes people to talk about what they are seeing because there is nothing else like it”.

Lynn’s award winning art pieces live most happily in contemporary settings.  They especially delight interior designers, complimenting the  spaces they design with appreciative clients in mind.  Lynn’s painstaking technique of painting and embellishing the canvas with hand-stitched beads and colorful threads make each piece one-of-a-kind.
