“Awakening” by Sally Painter, Oil Painting

Sally tells The Rickie Report, “Membership in the Oil Painters of America is a major milestone for me. To be recognized by my peers and asked to exhibit with this 3,400-member organization is a tremendous honor. The group’s mission is to promote and preserve the tradition of representational oil painting, and toward that end, the OPA sponsors a number of juried exhibitions like this one across the United States each year. Competition for a place in these shows is fierce, so I’m delighted to be included”.  She is grateful to artist, Brian Davis, for his guidance in the creation of this painting.

“Arizona Cactus Flower” by Sally Painter, (Also available as a giclee)

Growing up on a farm and co-owning a nursery for most of her life, Sally Painter has always been surrounded by the beauty of the natural world. So it’s really not surprising that she turned to nature for inspiration when she took up painting. The fascinating shapes, delicate textures, and vibrant colors of flowers and other plants and trees are her favorite subjects.

Yet, Sally says, she strives to paint something more than simply a realistic depiction of these subjects. She notes, “I interpret the subject with brush in hand, allowing my imagination to select colors and forms.” Like one of her artistic heroes, Georgia O’Keeffe, Sally invites us to enter in to her subjects, to experience them, to have a visceral reaction to them. Above all, Sally’s oil paintings allow us to see as she sees—what she describes as “God’s amazing way of creating each so uniquely and so beautifully.”

“Three Amigos” by Sally Painter

What began as a hobby has since become an important new chapter in her life, including the formal study of art and painting at the Boca Raton Museum Art School. “Painting is my therapy, my peaceful, creative place, and I treasure that,” says the artist.

In recent years, she has been profiled in VoyageMIAAmerican Art Collector, ARTisSpectrum, and Artist Showcase, and Southwest Art’s September 2015 edition named her one of their Nationally Emerging Artists. Sally has participated in a number of significant art competitions, most recently the Oil Painters of America 2018 Juried Salon Show, both the Spring and Fall 2017 NOAPS International Online Juried Exhibitions, the Western Spirit Art Show and Sale (2018), the Divine Floral Essence group show (2017), the Women Painters of the Southeast 6th Annual Juried Online Exhibition (2017), the Botanik Group Exhibition (2017), the R.S. Hanna Gallery Fall Showcase (2017), the 26th Annual All Florida Juried Arts Show (2016), the Art at the Mill Group Exhibition (2016), and the 2nd ART and FLOWERS Juried Exhibition (2016). She was also the featured artist at the Palm Beach International Airport in 2011. In addition to being a member of the Board of Trustees of the Boca Raton Museum of Art, Sally has been juried in as a member of the following organizations:

•  International Guild of Realism

•  Oil Painters of America

•  National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society

•  American Women Artists

•  Boca Raton Museum of Art Artists’ Guild

•  Artists of Palm Beach County
