The COVID-19 pandemic has made this year difficult for many artists. But for longtime Armory Art Center instructor and artist Sam Perry, it was a colon cancer diagnosis and not the coronavirus that has put his health and livelihood in peril.

Paul Fisher established his eponymously named gallery in 1990 with his purchase of the Flamingo Building, a 7500sf historic building located near the Norton Museum in the heart of West Palm Beach.  For most of 1990’s Fisher travelled the globe with his friend and mentor Dale Chihuly selling his work and consulting on major projects. Paul was also a protégé of the great Henry Geldzahler and in the early 90’s traveled with him internationally as a Cultural Attaché for the U.S. Information Agency. Upon meeting and marrying his artist wife Irina in 2001, he set down roots and began regular exhibitions. The gallery is known for showing a balance of 20th Century masters and young and emerging talent. Fisher also operates exhibition spaces at the celebrated Brazilian Court Hotel in Palm Beach and in Wynwood Miami at the Ogetti Building. He exhibits at major art fairs as well.

Ilene Adams was invited to create a piece for The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County’s, “Mark My Words” Exhibition, Opening March 30. Ilene created an installation piece, “I Am All Immigrants”, based on her grandfather’s hand-written birth certificate from Russia that she found when her mom passed. The piece, based on the translated words, explores being an immigrant and some of the issues our country now faces.

“I Am All Immigrants” by Ilene Adams
Fabric, photo transfer, embroidery

About  “Mark My Words”:

The use of language has evolved dramatically with the advancement of technology and how it influences our lives. Texting and emails have replaced older methods of communication and our lexicon includes new words and phrases. Utilizing words in art is nothing new: think Ed Ruscha or John Baldessari, the Ancient Egyptians or the art in Medieval Churches across Europe. This exhibition will showcase the work of 15 professional artists in Palm Beach County that feature “words” as their subject matter and muse.

Adams works in both mixed media and photography, often combining the two in installation pieces. Her photography is generally bright, over-accentuated colors that push the limits and transform everyday objects and nature into abstract images. Her mixed media work, on the other hand, is usually nostalgic and delicate, and looks at how our world and life mesh together.

Art Synergy is a 501 (c) 3, not for profit arts organization founded in 2013. The fruit of the labors of Rolando Chang Barrero, Craig McInnis and Freddy Hennevelt grew out of the original Think Tank,. It has flourished through grassroots efforts beginning with a partnership with Art Palm Beach.  Currently, Rolando Chang Barrero, President and Ilene Gruber Adams, Vice President are managing the organization along with the support of many artists and art lovers in the community. Volunteers and board members are always welcome.

By March 2017, Art Synergy will have organized 6 juried exhibition that have provided Florida based artists to have their work seen, and collected by national and international collectors and art patrons. Also, Art Synergy assists nine Florida art districts organize, promote and market over 65 exhibitions in each year throughout the Palm Beach and Martin County durning Art Palm Beach week which was initiated January 2014.

The nine art districts are: Antique Row Art District,Boynton Beach Art District,Delray Art Art District,Lake ParkArt District,North Palm Beach Art District,Lake Worth Art District,Northwood Village Art District,West Palm Beach Art District,Palm Beach Art District.

In 2016 Art Synergy was classified as a 501 (c) 3 not for profit arts organization which will allow for contributions and donations to a fund currently being created to allow needy families join experiential cultural experiences. This was possible because of the generosity of David and Lee Ann Lester of Next Level Fairs who donate exhibition spaces (Booths) at 2 of the Next Level Fairs: Art Palm Beach and Art Boca Raton.

ART SYNERGY is a countywide movement to unify and promote the diverse culture of our vibrant arts community. ART SYNERGY’s future goals include events that will happen periodically throughout the year, the addition of more participating art districts, and initiatives that help unify the many diverse art entities, and talented artists that Palm Beach County has to offer. With the help of local CRAs, Public Arts Departments, the DDA in WPB and the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County (to name a few), ART SYNERGY has only one place to go… onward and upward.
