Kent Burkhardsmeier “Intriguing Beginnings”

Kent Burkhardsmeier’s work explores the transition between fog and nature – offering a tempting glimpse beyond. Kent pursues familiar places with a curious fascination to uncover hidden gems in his photographs – like seeing into the veil of fog. A resident of Deerfield Beach, his photography has been shown throughout South Florida (Palm Beach Photographic Centre, Crest Galleries, Boca Raton Museum School, and Broward Art Guild Galleries) and internationally (UNEAC Santiago de Cuba). Kent’s project, “Cinco Hojas: The Experience of a Cuban Cigar, in Cuba” was published by LensWork Publishing as the lead series in the book “Seeing in SIXES.” His work has been recognized internationally (International Photography Awards – Family of Man, Black & White Spider Awards, International Color Awards,) and locally.

“Seagulls At Dawn” by Karen Hanley Colbert

Karen Hanley Colbert’s work depicts how she blends her work with the many activities that can be found at the beach. The beach entices her into the escapism of sheer play or sometimes early in the mornings, the stillness of elusive dreams. She lets her camera catch the freedom that is the beach. A resident of Delray Beach Karen is an internationally published and award-winning photographer. Her work has gained broad recognition in magazines and competitions including Black & White Magazine, Artblend Magazine and the Fine Art Photography Awards (FAPA-London, UK); PX3 Prix De La Photographie Paris (PX3); International Color Awards and the Black & White Spider Awards. In South Florida, her images have been exhibited at Palm Beach International Airport; Palm Beach Photographic Museum; Cultural Council of Palm Beach County; Cornell Museum; Old School Square Gallery; Boca Raton Museum of Art; Artblend, ArtServe and Broward Art Guild Galleries and in Art Basel. Her pieces can be found in both commercial and private collections.

“Grand To Be Central” by Dale Kirk

Dale Kirk’s work comes from her walks on the streets of New York. She is not alone… every step of the way is a memory of her father whispering stories reminiscent of his life there. To achieve that feeling of timelessness and energy, she captures movements, which emphasize the passage of time. This temporality satisfies her longing for him, and somehow, she can keep him alive, if only in spirit.  A resident of Boynton Beach, Dale’s work has been shown throughout South Florida (Palm Beach Photographic Centre, Boca Raton Museum School, Broward Art Guild Galleries, Palm Beach Art). In addition, her work has been auctioned several times for Bethesda Hospital. Her love for photography developed from her father’s attraction for the art. “I remember watching him tinkering with cameras and compositions and felt like my Dad was most at peace when he was looking through the lens”. Dale’s career began 30 years ago with a family portrait studio in her home and has now evolved to capturing landscapes and still life.

“Looking Out” by Allan Pierce

Curator, Allan Pierce’s work approaches portraiture, by capturing the inner life of a person in unguarded moments and not the “flattering, air-brushed” conformity that’s so prevalent in studio photography. He is especially excited by the limitless range of natural lighting situations rather than the forced predictability and blandness that result from getting mired in technique. The work in this exhibit reflects his ongoing theme of dealing with barriers and looking out of windows.  Allan lives in Fort Lauderdale and from his earliest childhood as an avid theater-goer, he has been consumed with the interactions of people, their emotional masks and subtexts and the environments and situations that define their lives. He studied theater, taught English and drama and directed plays (both traditional and experimental).  Observing humanity continues to be a consuming passion and a similar perspective pervades his photography. He has exhibited his work at the Soho Photo Gallery in New York City, Georgia State University in Atlanta and University of Miami, Florida International University, the Boca Museum of Art, the Chris Lopez Gallery, World and Eye Arts Center, and the Artists’ Guild Gallery in Delray Beach. He currently teaches photography at the Boca Raton Museum of Art – The Art School and conducts workshops throughout Florida.
