“Ladies on the Beach” by Deb Yager

Deb Yager tells The Rickie Report, “My ‘signature style’ started out exclusively as Blind Contour Drawings of musicians back when I was making my living as a singer/songwriter in Austin Texas. It’s a technique where the artist draws the subject without looking at the paper while looking only at the subject. Hence: “blind”!  My artworks are seemingly abstracts and yet, each subject has its individualistic look or “stamp” containing the “essence” of each subject. Whether it be it a guitar, a musician, local homes and most recently sea life and Mermaids. I’m going with the flow where my art takes me”.

Her artworks are being featured at the Galleryone in The Hilton in Fort Lauderdale through the end of March, 2021.  In addition, she was invited to participate as a visual artist for Real Women Real Songs/ Season 3. This annual commitment with 21 professional singer songwriters and only 7 visual artists. Each artist & songwriter produces a piece every week based on a prompt. You can find it on You Tube, Facebook and Instagram (check Deb’s FaceBook page:www.facebook.com/debyagerart?ref-hl ).

“Beaumont La Grange” Deb Yager

As a full time artist, Deb’s current body of work has been described as “whimsical” and “happy”. She says, “My style still embodies the Blind Contour style but I have added vibrant colors and textures to my pieces. Mostly I draw what I see. Whether it’s an interior design shot, an exterior of a home (from living in New Orleans and places I’ve been), the architecture & culture, along with the funky side of Florida and it’s beach scenes and of course I still draw musicians. And I have most recently added a series of Still Life’s, Octopi and Mermaids”.

Deb Yager leads more than one artistic and creative life! “At 37 Deb taught herself to play guitar. Then she sold all her material possessions & moved to Austin Texas, the LIVE MUSIC CAPITAL of the WORLD. When she got to Austin she sold her Mercedes Benz. Then she bought a blue Gibson Gospel guitar she nicknamed Baby Blue. She figures it was a fair trade. A former jet settin’ ad executive traded in the champagne & caviar for something more substantial, the call of her heart,” states David Gold of Texas Music Magazine.  She still plays gigs with her singer/ songwriter husband, Bo Reynolds. “Palm Beach Pink” by Deb Yager

Deb explains, “I bought a beautiful blue Gospel Gibson guitar in 1997 on a whim because I loved the color. Then I gave up my career in advertising and taught myself to play. I sold all my material possessions and moved to The Live Music Capital of the World with literally 3 chords and the truth as they say. That was the start of eight years as a performing singer songwriter and was the start of my life as a professional artist”.

“Being an artist I was so inspired by the rich and uniquely vibrant music scene in Austin. I started drawing what I saw; singer songwriters. People were encouraging me to take my art to galleries and “so I just got brave”, put together a portfolio, and the first gallery I went to accepted my art on the spot! My art can still be seen at that same gallery to this day at Wild About Music in Austin, Texas. I’ve been doing my art professionally ever since”, Deb tells us.

“Flowing Mermaid” by Deb Yager

Deb shares, “I took another leap of faith in 2013 with my singer/songwriter husband, sold all our material possessions (for the second time in my life), bought a motorhome and lived on the road playing music from town to town starting in Walla Walla, Washington and straight down the coast and over to south Florida. We rented a “Surf Shack” on the beach intending to stay for a month and now we are going on eight years. Just going with the flow. It’s crazy how the Universe conspires for us all to have our dreams”.
