Cafe Bleu, in Delray Beach, FL is pleased to announce the opening of the SOLO exhibition “Tilt. An Exhibition Paired with Some Exceptional Coffee.” On view through May 30, are experimental abstract paintings by Florida-based artist, Missy Pierce. “The Monster In The Room” by Missy Pierce
Pierce specializes in vibrant abstract and figurative paintings that explore the nature of, and search for, identity and inner strength. A repeated theme in her work is that of containment—especially the containment of parts of the self that are concealed in the conflicting roles played in our lives.

Pierce tells The Rickie Report, ” I specialize in vibrant abstract paintings that explore the nature of, and search for, identity. A theme often repeated in my work is that of “holding it together” or the “containment,” of aspects of one’s self. This dynamic is often explored in the context of domestic roles juxtaposed with conflicting roles as a feminist. In my work, I focus on the images I choose to conceal rather than project in a particular role. My paintings represent the release of those otherwise suppressed images. “
“Mommy Used To Be So Pretty” by Missy Pierce
She goes on to explain, “I work with acrylics, papers, and tar gel applied in multiple layers to create a canvas with texture, depth and history. My work has often been subjected to a final harmonizing agent, such as detailed pattern-making, sanding with power tools or “pours” that have been partially dissolved to reveal evocative glimpses of the underlying layers.”

Pierce’s work can be found in public and private art collections both in the United States and abroad, and has been seen in numerous exhibitions. Her work may currently be seen in places as diverse as the Percy Thomson Gallery in Stratford, New Zealand to the Whole Foods Market Cafe in Boca Raton, 1400 Glades Road and the West Boca Imaging Center on 7070 W. Palmetto Park Rd.
Missy Pierce Unveiling Art in Public Places Fish in Pompano Beach, FL
Pierce was recently commissioned by the City of Pompano Beach to paint one of the twelve five-foot-tall fish sculptures that were installed in public locations along East Atlantic Avenue in Pompano Beach, FL. She volunteers as an instructor of elementary school children on group art projects, and has artwork in the permanent collections of the Eastern Institute of Technology Art Department, 17th International Collage Exhibition (Napier, New Zealand), and University of Wisconsin Art Dept.,16th International Collage Exhibition (Marshfield, WI). She has exhibited the City of Dania Beach City Hall (Dania Beach, FL), Kavanagh Gallery (St. Charles, IL), Rosetti Fine Art Gallery (Wilton Manors, FL), 16th International Collage Exhibition, outofsight.co.nz/Ice16, Art Florida 2014, Broward Art Guild (Fort Lauderdale, FL), EARTH, Broward Art Guild (Fort Lauderdale, FL) and many more.
