PSLAL     GIVING    BACK    TO   THE

COMMUNITY :

PARTNERING    WITH    OUR    SCHOOLS

FREE   TO   BE!!!

FREE   TO   EXPRESS   YOURSELF!

In 2019, just before Covid hit us, the League connected with Windmill Point Elementary School to provide an art scholarship for young aspiring artist(s) to take an art class with formal instruction and to support their after-school art program. This after-school program was initially developed since the arts budgets were cut some years back, to support students who were interested to learn more about the arts and to express their creativity. At that time, PSLAL had also partnered with AC Moore to help support League art projects at the Expo as well as help Windmill Point with art supplies until AC Moore closed.

Over one year later, PSLAL has reconnected with Windmill Point Elementary School in Port St. Lucie!  As the needs changed, the League is looking forward to creating an artist-in-residence program to facilitate a school-wide art project to kick off the school year in the fall. One of the League’s primary goals as the  benefiting organization of the PSL Arts & Crafts Expo was to give back to the community, especially to the children. PSLAL looks forward to giving a donation to Windmill Point Elementary School to provide an enriching art experience for all students in the next school year.

Meet    Chalk    Artist    Shane    Mesmer

Chalk art by Shane Mesmer & guest David Lepore

PSLAL enjoyed providing several art experiences for visitors at the recent Expo! Everyone enjoyed watching our artists painting and creating live throughout the weekend! People were amazed by Shane Mesmer’s chalk art image, stopping in awe of her breathtaking work!

It is always exciting to hear, “I just moved to PSL and am so happy to discover the Port St. Lucie Arts League! I am an artist and happy to know that there is a connection of artists here for me.”  An older gentleman, who worked creating stained glass, was inspired to start working again after setting aside his passion to create for many years.  A 15 year old girl was so excited to observe all the artists painting, especially, the Donna Dewberry technique used by Madelaine Cooper. She is going to check out online classes to learn this style.

It is a great JOY to see people of all ages begin to feel their creative ideas bubble to the surface! The League is proud to be an integral part of the Expo and to be working together in partnership with Lattitude-88, Inc. supporting the arts & artists in our community.

Stop by the League’s non-profit booth to learn more about us and to see our artists creating live, including Chalk artists Shane Mesmer and special guest. The PSLAL Plein Air painters will also be found painting around on the grounds of Expo & MIDFLORIDA Event Center.

PSLAL is the benefiting organization at all PSL Expos and we are grateful to Latitude-88, Inc. for the ongoing support and generosity to support the League’s mission. Our connection and work together at the Expos has provided relationships and awareness to local artists and the arts in PSL.  PSLAL has enjoyed working in partnership with Mike Strickland, owner of Latitude-88, Inc., and all behind the scenes at the Port St. Lucie Art & Craft Expos to bring arts & culture to PSL. A Celebration of Life, Arts & Crafts and the Human Spirit… The PSLAL artists can always be found creating live at the Expo!

ANNOUNCING:

PAINT PALM BEACH EN PLEIN AIR 2017 (Formerly the Annual Lighthouse ArtCenter Plein Air Festival)

March 8-12, 2017

LACpaint-palm-beach-logo_orig2017.jpg

Lighthouse ArtCenter announced today the names of the 35 artists selected to participate in the 2017 Paint Palm Beach en Plein Air competition now in its 4th year at North Palm Beach County’s critically acclaimed art gallery and education center. The event will take place March 8-12, 2017. Plein Air has become a popular competition throughout the world, giving artists different venues to create in, while being challenged by the length and surroundings of the four-day contest. The selected artists compete for prize money and are able to display their work at the Lighthouse ArtCenter for gallery visitors to view, offer their opinions and purchase a favored painting at the Collector’s Party on Saturday, March, 11th, final day of competition. Paintings may also be purchased “wet” from the artist at the painting sites.
“We modified this year’s artist selection process after an outstanding 2016 competition,” said Lighthouse ArtCenter’s Chair of Painting and Drawing and Co-Chair of this event, Ted Matz. “Feedback from our former contestants suggested we narrow our field of artists to give each participant more exposure to the crowds drawn to watch them when they’re sketching and painting at the various venues. ”
With more than 120 applicants for the limited slots, Matz said the selection process became one of scoring several criteria, not all of which were based on direct artistic skills. “We wanted to be fair to artists who may not have participated in our Plein Air competition in the first three years. And fair to the Lighthouse ArtCenter patrons who want to see how new artists interpret our local scenery when challenged to capture it on canvas.”

The 35 artists selected scored highest when evaluated by the following:
1. Originality
2. Overall Quality
3. Consistency of Style
4. Technical Skills
5. Marketability to Audience

“We are thrilled by the artistic diversity selected to compete in March 2017,” said Lighthouse ArtCenter Curator Janeen Mason. “We had submissions from artists in 27 states and two who are international. We are excited to see how these artists translate our South Florida seascapes, landscapes and architecture.”

Here are the names and hometowns of the artists competing in Lighthouse ArtCenter’s 2017 Paint Palm Beach en Plein Air competition:
