“Rainforest” by Deborah Bigeleisen

With the visual-aid of a PowerPoint presentation, you will be taken on a virtual tour of modern and contemporary art in museums, galleries, and international art fairs. The presentation also covers the excitement in modern architecture from museums to international metro stations and even bridges! Photography is also explored since (almost) everyone is snapping photos with their cell phone. The emphasis is looking at art and the world around you “through the mind and vision of an artist.”  Hear about colors, materials, and techniques that impact one’s emotions and challenge the senses, the tricks that artists play on the viewer, and even some neuroscience aspects of how the brain perceives art.

Historical facts are introduced where Professor Bigeleisen feels that it has additional significance to a particular work – such as “why is that 10 foot plank of black plastic leaning against the wall in a museum?”  You will learn why there is more to it than meets the eye!
