Pompano Beach Arts is thrilled to announce that we are launching Old Town Untapped Summer Sizzle. The June edition will feature Fin, the final group exhibition of our 2022-23 Artists in Residence (AiRs) program. This summer block party will showcase the residents’ artwork in the BaCA main gallery and will feature the band Girlfriend Material on the main outdoor stage. The fun kicks off on Friday, June 2 at 5:30 p.m.  Food trucks will be on site, but vendors will not be present. The exhibition will be on view until June 30, 2023. The rest of our Summer Sizzle lineup will be announced shortly.

“Old Town Untapped is back by popular demand,” said Ty Tabing, Director, Cultural Affairs Department. “When we announced we were taking the summer off, we were overwhelmed with requests to keep the party going! The Summer Sizzle version will have a smaller footprint, without the vendors, but will continue to feature the best live bands and art exhibitions. This summer, guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy the new South Kitchen and Bar and explore the new Old Town Backyard area behind BaCA.”

During the June event, guests will get to meet the outstanding artists who participated in the newly revamped AiRs program and view their latest works.  “Each of them brought something truly special to this initiative, sharing their unique talents and becoming part of the fabric of our arts community” continued Tabing.  “We are thrilled that they utilized this opportunity to advance their careers, and we look forward to the next phase of their success.”

As part of the residency, each artist was provided with a studio, allowing them to create in a dedicated space within an inspiring atmosphere. The participants advanced their public engagement skills through featured roles during Old Town Untapped events and by teaching arts workshops. The program also provided the artists with training in marketing, branding, and intellectual property rights; necessary skills to enhance their careers.

During June’s event, guests will be able to explore the beautiful creations of the AiRs while enjoying the high energy cover band, Girlfriend Material, who offers a wide range of genre-crossing music that will keep the party in high-gear!

About the City of Pompano Beach Cultural Affairs Department:

The mission of the Cultural Affairs Department is to provide cultural programming that includes visual arts, digital media, music, film, theater, dance and public art for the enjoyment and enrichment of residents and visitors to Pompano Beach, Broward County, and the greater South Florida area. The department programs and manages the City’s premiere cultural arts venues including the Pompano Beach Cultural Center, Ali Cultural Arts Center, Bailey Contemporary Arts Center, and the Blanche Ely House Museum. The department also oversees the City’s Public Art Program and the prestigious National Endowment for the Arts’ Our Town grant awarded to the Pompano Beach Crossroads place-making arts initiative.

Bailey Contemporary Arts Center (BaCA) is operated by the City of Pompano Beach’s Cultural Affairs Department (PBCAD) which annually seeks participants for its Artists in Residence Program (AiR). As part of this program, eight studios at BaCA are available to individual artists for a nine-month period from October – June. The 2023 -2024 residency will be available for application in April 2023. Through this residency, PBCAD strives to cultivate an environment where artists can craft their talents and enhance their experience through artistic development and experimentation. The residency’s structure is therefore left relatively open to cater to individuality, spontaneity and collaboration. BaCA should be considered a safe space where all art forms, intellectual and creative pursuits, methods of artistic investigation, and aesthetic inquiry are accepted, nurtured, and celebrated. A dynamic environment will be created through the AiR Program – one that appeals to onlookers and attracts locals and visitors alike to watch the creative process unfold and see the latest output.
