On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, the Charlotte J. Burrie Community Center hosts a free, intimate evening of Great Art and Great Conversation with six nationally and internationally award-winning and collected fine artists from the National League of American Pen Women – Fort Lauderdale Branch. Hors d’oeuvres and libations are included. It’s a unique opportunity to view the exhibit, meet and hear these women artists talk about their art journey and current work. A self-taught artist and muralist Chris Landis’ watercolors have been recognized both local and nationally. With high attention to detail that typically incorporates many layers, her goal is to capture a sense of peace and contentment in her paintings. Her own garden is included in the Archives of American Gardens at the Smithsonian Institute. Charlotte J. Burrie Civic Center, 2669 N. Federal Highway, Pompano Beach, FL, had its grand opening celebration on March 12, 2020 just in-time to be closed most of the past two years due to COVID-19. It is re-opened now offering a variety of programming, including: yoga, fitness, karate, dance and Spanish lessons. Overseen by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, the 8,700-square-foot civic center, in Pompano’s Cresthaven neighborhood, includes a reception area, two multi-purpose activity rooms, a conference room, a warming kitchen and a large assembly space with a fixed platform stage and adjacent dressing rooms.
