Stuart’s Creek District Of Arts & Entertainment Unveils First Installed Sidewalk Mosaic Saturday, January 22. Join Free Celebratory Reception Of Mosaic Artist Diane Concepcion. Consider Your Own Mosaic Entry For This Community Effort
On Saturday, January 22, 2022, The City of Stuart‘s Creek District of Arts & Entertainment will unveil its first installed sidewalk mosaic near the 555 Building on Colorado Avenue. This art was created by Diane Concepcion, an experienced mosaic artist and teacher. It is the first of a projected series of 20 mosaics that the Creek District Advisory Board plans to install over the next five years. As previously reported in the Rickie Report, the public has an opportunity to participate in the project by submitting designs (voted on by the public) and building mosaics (with Diane and Corina Pelloni’s guidance) which will ultimately be installed in the Creek District sidewalks. The Rickie Report shares some sneak peeks of Diane’s mosaic and the details about the free celebratory reception following the unveiling. The Call For Mosaic Designs Is Still Open!!!

Mosaic artist and teacher, Diane Concepcion working on her mosaic
Diane’s design for the first mosaic, incorporates the wonderful namesake of the district: Frazier Creek. It runs through the area and has plenty of classic Florida mangroves. The mosaic has a large mangrove raining down symbols for food, drink, art and music. All this, under a dark sky which celebrates our favorite night of the month, The Creek Walk (the district’s First Friday Art Walk).
Diane Concepcion, had always been drawn to mosaics as an art form, but her former full time career only allowed limited dabbling in her spare time. Once she retired in 2012, she began attending mosaic classes at the Union Square Art Cooperative in NYC to fine tune her skills in this ancient art. Upon moving to Florida in 2013, Diane set up a studio at the Fish House in Port Salerno and began doing mosaics full time. Over time she grew to know and take workshops with some the most highly regarded mosaic artists in the US and international community. She has studied with Mireille Swinnen of Belgium, Martin Cheek of England and attended the Institute of Mosaic Arts in Berkley, California.
More progress on Diane Concepcion’s mosaic for The Creek District
Diane went on to open several studios in Martin and Saint Lucie counties, giving mosaic classes, doing public art installations and private commissions. Diane loves to create garden art (stepping stones, flower pots, gazing balls), functional art (house numbers, table tops) but to sooth her artistic soul, it’s usually a pelican, hence the name of her studio: Pelican Central Mosaic Arts. Diane is co-owner of 2nd Street Art in Fort Pierce, a gallery that exhibits a variety of local art. Diane’s mosaic art and jewelry can be found at Hani Honey in the Creek District or at 2nd Street Art in Ft Pierce.
Contact Diane for classes or commissions at 732 804-4715. Her mosaic studio and classroom space is located in 2nd Street Art, 131 2nd Street, Ft Pierce.
