Aya Fiber Offers Summer Camp Experiences For Children Who Love To Create
Do you have a creative kid? Summer Fiber Camp at the Aya Fiber Studio will stretch their imagination and improve their skills. It consists of four, 1 week sessions with a focus on Surface Design. Each week campers will explore a different fiber technique and learn several different processes. In each session we will learn the basics of surface design through printing, dyeing, and sewing. We will learn about shibori, batik, eco printing and other types of resist dyeing. We will print our own fabrics and then use these fabrics to create projects. Summer Fiber Camp at the Aya Fiber Studio will stretch their imagination and improve their skills. It consists of four, 1 week sessions with a focus on Surface Design. Each week campers will explore a different fiber technique and learn several different processes. In each session we will learn the basics of surface design through printing, dyeing, and sewing. We will learn about shibori, batik, eco printing and other types of resist dyeing. We will print our own fabrics and then use these fabrics to create projects.
- Session I: Let’s Talk About Dyes: June 18-22, 2018 – We will learn all about dyes and the history of dyeing. We will make natural dyes using items from the local market. We will make an indigo vat and learn about mix reactive dyes. Each day we will make a small project using these dyes.
- Session II: Resist Dyeing: June 25-29, 2018 – We will learn all about resist dyeing. We will learn about Japanese Shibori, batik and resist pastes.
- Session III: Printing on Fabric: July 2-6, 2018 – In this week we will do some marbling, eco-printing and deconstructed screen printing.
- Session IV: Sewing 101: July 9-13, 2018 – In this week we will learn basic hand stitching and how to use a sewing machine. We will be constructing a simple apron and fabrics created in previous weeks can be used (can bring sewing machine).
On Friday evenings we will have an art show from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the studio for friends and family to see everyone’s work.
Participants need to bring Lunch and a water bottle- we will provide snack
