“Lineage” by Gail Erickson
Gail Erickson claims that her work is inspired by family, nature and the human form; it’s a product of her feelings, emotions and passion for the tactile nature of clay. She wants the viewer to experience her art, too. “My intent is to reveal yet conceal; allowing the viewer to develop a personal connection to a piece”, says Erickson. From manatees and birds to mermaids and colorful characters, there is something inherently natural about her creations. Gail has been expanding into mixed media and her “Soulful Expressions” series incorporates wood and other found objects with ceramics. Many of those objects have ties to family members, past and present.
Cutting Board by Robert Hunter
Whether it be a cutting board or a coffee table, the grains and colors of various woods are the focus of artist Robert Hunter. He is fascinated with what causes the different patterns to occur in the wood – sun, wind, rain, insects, you name it. Hunter creates exquisite functional woodwork that will blow you away. His cutting boards and cheese slicers are custom made from a variety of exotic hardwoods and in some pieces, you will see turquoise peeking out of the natural crevices of the wood. Although completely safe to use with foods, his boards are just too beautiful to hide away in a cabinet! Cleaning the boards is easy and with just a little TLC, the boards will keep their beauty and luster for a lifetime.
Besides his boards, Hunter has brought forth his mastery with other creations such as boxes, coasters and home furnishings. According to Hunter, wood offers a fascination, beauty and complexity in the grain. These rich, lustrous pieces just grow more beautiful with age and deserve to be on display.
Artisans on the Ave is located at 630 Lake Avenue in downtown Lake Worth.
