In a house with – at a minimum – two dogs, three cats and any number of other rescue animals, you’ll find Cynthia hard at work creating whimsical, functional pottery in black and white. Proficient in working with clay as well as casting glass, she has been “playing with pottery” since childhood. Cynthia has taken her passion to new heights and has parlayed her expertise into teaching others.

A lifelong learner and creator, she constantly seeks to expand her technical and artistic skills. Recently, she participated in a creative artist community immersion program at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. “Making pottery, glass casting and teaching are passions”, says Cynthia. You can definitely see that passion, along with her sense of humor and clear love of all things furry, when you view her art. Mugs, dishes, clocks, you name it – her artwork is sure to make you smile – animal lover or not.

“Making pottery, glass casting and teaching are my passions,” she says. A teacher as well as a potter, Cynthia believes it’s important for potters to start with a good foundation by learning basic building techniques. She loves to embellish her pieces by stamping, carving and altering the surfaces, and encourages students to start to channel their ideas once they have achieved that solid technique.

Cynthia began her love affair with fashioning the earth making mud pies in her backyard at age 4. Recognizing her interest and potential, her parents, also artistic, made sure she attended art school on the weekends. She first learned the wheel in 7th grade in New Jersey, and went on to earn multiple degrees and certifications in both art and teaching.

Passionate about clay, Cynthia is equally passionate about learning. She continues not only to give workshops, but to take them as well. Cynthia earned her BA in Education at Montclair University of Upper Montclair NJ; her MA Art Education and MA Education Technology at FAU. She ‘s attended the Penland School of Crafts, Haystack Mt. School of Crafts, and Arrowmont School, and has studied with Cynthia Bringle, Gay Smith, Susan Feagan, Ronan Peterson, Jeff Oestrike, Sunshine Cobb, Tom Spleth, Deborah Horrell, Birdie Boone, and Matt Repsher.  In addition to being the owner of Westwind Pottery/Pottery-E, she has taught art in the Broward County Public Schools, Parkland, and ceramic sculpture at Penland. She is the past president of the Ceramic League of Palm Beach and the Broward College Potter’s Guild.
