Karen Windchild and her Buffalo Sculpture

Discussing and demonstrating the ancient role of artist as shaman and myth maker, Karen Sholmberg Windchild infuses energy into ordered matter as the essence of both ritual and art. She brings love and respect for her materials, technique, traditions, inspiration, self and for one’s part in the whole. Karen has recently returned from Santa Fe, where she successfully created the first buffalo statue on the desert as part of The Adobe Buffalo Project ( https://www.facebook.com/adobebuffaloproject/). She will share the progress of this art installation, which serves as a community building project, an educational forum, and a shamanic act of healing and transformation.

Karen tells The Rickie Report, “ I feel guided when doing my best work, becoming an open window through which beings who wish to materialize can enter. I get a sense of what they want to become. I love the richness of contrasting color and materials and respect the uniqueness of each.  Often I don’t know what a piece is about until it’s done. It reveals itself sometimes clearly, sometimes subtly, to whoever takes the time to sense its nature.  I believe in the ancient role of artist as shaman and myth maker, infusing energy into ordered matter as the essence of both ritual and Art: bringing love and respect for materials, technique, traditions, providence, inspiration, self and for one’s part in the whole, so that all may prosper”.
