The Lighthouse ArtCenter Gallery and School of Art, celebrates the patience, the daring and the inventiveness of artists who work in textiles, mixed media, metals and non-traditional materials when it presents “Elegant Threads: Wearable Art and Surface Design” (now through Dec. 9, 2017). The exhibition displays work never before shown together in Florida. As a special feature, LAC opens its doors Thursday evening, Nov. 16, for a fashion forward runway show and reception. Elegant Threads was woven together when the Lighthouse ArtCenter invited artists from around the country to submit photos of their wearable art and surface designs. The submissions brought a constellation of contemporary color, texture, and techniques that are certain to impress the most fashion conscious and the most discerning designers.

Wearable Art and Body Sculpture

Patrons, vacationers and holiday shoppers can wrap themselves in exquisite patterns while relishing the softness of silks that are hand-painted and stitched with the greatest of care. They will be able to marvel at the delicate beadwork and fine craftsmanship created by jewelry makers and enjoy studio art quilts and accessories that quicken the imagination.

Nancy Politsch, Executive Director of the Lighthouse ArtCenter said, “Through the generosity of philanthropists such as Norma and Bill Roth, Gil Walsh Interiors, and the Meyer Law Firm, we are able to continue our mission as the cultural anchor for visual arts in Palm Beach and Martin counties, to provide new ways to explore, learn, interact and create rewarding experiences for individuals and their families in the world of art. Now more than ever, where there is art there is hope.”

As further enticement, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre opened its costume department to more than 20 years of glorious character costumes that have graced the Carbonell Award Winning stage. They invited ArtCenter curator, Janeen Mason, select a few surprises that patrons of the arts will surely recognize as a part of the Elegant Threads exhibition.
