INTRODUCTION TO FUSING
Wednesday March 1st 6:30-8:30pm $95.00 *Beginner Level*

Gain elementary knowledge of kiln formed glass in this two hour course. Fundamental fusing terminology, techniques, and principles will be covered. The class begins with a lecture and remaining time is spent creating a set of four fused glass coasters. This is an entry level fused glass class, no experience is necessary. After completing this class, students will be eligible to register for our intermediate level fusing classes. All materials are included.

BEGINNER MOSAICS w/Taylor
Saturday March 5th 9am-3pm $150.00 *Beginner Level*

Create a beautiful mosaic glass piece of art in this one day class. The class will work together to design unique compositions as well as learn the process of mosaic glass cutting technique, adhesives and grouting. This unique technique will get you excited about all the possibilities the glass arts have to offer! Includes all materials.

COMPREHENSIVE CUTTING COURSE
Wednesday March 8th 6-9pm $85.00 *Beginner Level*

In this three hour course Phil will teach students about different cutting & breaking tools, how to cut glass, and the dos & don’ts of cutting glass. The class will end with a brief overview of a helpful cutting tool, The Morton System. This class is perfect for students who have taken an entry level fusing, mosaic, or stained glass class and are looking to improve or brush up on cutting skills. After taking this course, students should be comfortable enough with cutting to start working on pieces on their own. A 15% discount will be offered on cutting tools!

With more than 30 years of experience, Jurgen will walk you through this ancient process step-by-step. Glass and came is supplied, but you will need to bring your stained glass tools. Leave the class knowing the techniques of Old World Masters and with your very own leaded panel. This is an intermediate level stained glass class; students must be proficient in cutting & soldering techniques. Additional tools may need to be purchased.

 

 

EXPERIMENTING WITH BULLSEYE GLASS: Reactive Potential
Saturday March 28th 6:30-8:30pm $95.00 *Experience Required*

Learn to harness the reactive potential of Bullseye glass! Bullseye glasses are made with a variety of basic chemistries. When some of the glasses are combined with one another or with certain metal foils, the chemistries interact and produce special effects. Reactive effects can range from subtle to dramatic and can prove quite versatile in art and design. Learn more about the basic chemistries behind these effects and how to harness (or prevent) them to enhance your work. In this class you will study an extensive collection of samples and finished works and will make your own samples, using many forms of glass and foils. Basic glass cutting skills and kiln-forming experience. All materials and kiln firings included.

In this class students will create two 8” X 8” Dishes learning a variety of unique techniques to utilize Bullseye transparent glass. Among other skills – students will learn how to dilute dark, transparent glass to create work with bright, vibrant colors. In this intermediate to advanced level class, students create three-dimensional glass sculptures. Students learn the process of casting glass from two highly skilled instructors who walk you step-by-step through the mold making and glass firing processes. A wide-variety of materials are used included glass billets, frits, powders and hand pulled stringers. Students will leave with in-depth knowledge of the glass arts and mold making. Beginning level fused glass is encouraged. Students must wear closed toe shoes.

About Glassstress: Part of a new curatorial initiative to examine areas traditionally considered ‘craft,’ but which present alternative mediums of increasing interest to contemporary artists, Glasstress features 25-30 glass installations created by contemporary artists from around the world in collaboration with the international organization Glasstress, Venice and the master glass artisans of Berengo Studio, Murano. The results challenge our notion of glass as a ‘beautiful’ material and encourage us to explore the bold, political, and sometimes less than pristine aspects of the medium. In this full-day students will learn a multitude of jewelry design techniques that can be achieved using dichroic glass, as well as NEW puddle glass cabochon technique! The instructor will demonstrate techniques such as reverse etching, using a dremmel tool, and decal application. A variety of methods for making your fused dichroic and puddle glass pieces wearable will be covered as well. Students will create four pendants. All materials are included. NEW Saturday May 13th REVERSE METHOD MOSAICS w/Special Guest Debbie Davis 9am-3pm $150.00 *Beginner Level*

This class is an introduction to a reverse method of mosaics which uses tape instead of gluing each piece separately. This method allows for more versatility and a cleaner application. The gluing takes place at the completion of the project. This workshop is open to beginner and intermediate levels.

 

About Debbie Davis: Davis is a mosaic artist from North Palm Beach, Florida. She was recently accepting as an emerging artist at Artigras 2017. She has trained with several well-known mosaic artists, but is mostly self-taught, drawing from the inspiration of Antoni Gaudí, and other great mosaic artists of the past. Through her art, Debbie would like to inspire others to express passion, love and simplicity in all they do.

In this FREE demonstration, participants will learn how to safely use a variety of coldworking tools to shape and bevel the edges of a fused glass piece, as well as how to sand and grind the top and bottom surfaces of a kilnformed object. Students will be introduced to the tile saw, belt sander, lap wheel, angle grinder, loose grit, lathe, diamond hand laps and sandblaster. The demo will also include a discussion on the effects of fire polishing coldworked surfaces.

In this class, you will learn how to turn selected Matisse painted gouache cutouts into a workable glass pattern to cut and create your own masterpiece, and play with the techniques required to turn a Pollock canvas into a fused glass abstract impressionist drip painting. Wednesday June 28th & Wednesday July 5th INTRODUCTION TO PATE DE VERRE w/ Phil 6pm-9pm $250 this is a Two-Part Course *Beginner Fusing Experience Required*

 

 


Learn the basics of pâte de verre from start to finish while making a thin-walled, kilnformed bowl in this hands-on workshop. (The term literally means “paste of glass” in French.) Make a plaster silica mold from a model, pack it with glass, fire it, then divest and finish it. Students will have access to a broad palette of colored frit and samples to help predict and understand fired qualities. Demonstrations will include various techniques of working with glass powders against the mold, working with color reactions, as well as how to back-fill a packed mold to support the walls of the piece during firing. No prerequisites
