Rickie Shares More Tips For Artists To Network And Art Patrons To Find New Connections With Creators

The Rickie Report has long considered networking a primary function of promoting the many creations of artists.  It is simply a good business practice!  After all, how will art lovers find your work to purchase?  We‘ve read numerous magazines (local, national and international) and newspapers ( in hand or digital), and think, “This is the perfect place for (add your name) to let people know about their (fill in the blank: artwork, jewelry, glass art, wood, hand sewn pocketbooks, sculpture, wearable art, classes, etc)”.  In this article we share some often overlooked opportunities for artists to share their news and for art patrons to find their newest purchase.  With 2017 already here – NOW is the time to NETWORK!

Network…Network…Network!

Opportunities for artists and art patrons to network:

The first place is The Rickie Report!

When we publish an article about an art event, an art organization or an individual artist, Art Patrons – TAKE NOTICE!  This is YOUR opportunity to meet creators.  Mingle, meet and get to know the current art scene! This is when you meet an artist whose work you enjoy and being collecting! Build a relationship, as the artist evolves, so will your art world!

Where else can you network?

Your college alumni publication

Artists:  Send a photo of you creating!  People are fascinated by your process.  Share!

Art Patrons:  Being in touch with someone who shared similar experiences, classes and good memories of college underscores the human need to connect.  The pride shared in these associations is a natural way to reach out to other alumni.

What to Include:

  • Your website
  • Email
  • Facebook addresses
  • A concise note
  • Include the date and department you graduated from
  • Phone number
  • 2-3 good quality photos
  • Upcoming Exhibits (print media is working a minimum of 6-8 weeks ahead)

HAVE SOMEONE ELSE PROOFREAD BEFORE you send!!!

Big Box Clubs, Organizations you belong to  (AARP, AAA, AMA, ADA…you get the idea)

Google “national associations”

Check out www.directoryofassociations.com

Artists: Did you ever wonder how these publications find  people to write stories about?  If YOU don’t tell them about YOUR STORY, then you are relying on someone else to do it for you!  (This approach is not usually successful….DO IT YOURSELF)!

Art Patrons:  You want to be the first to say you support this artist!  The excitement of acquisition includes knowing each artist’s personal story.  We are all eager to know the details about the creator of the work we love and appreciate.

What to Include:

  • 2-3 good quality photos of your work and one of you as you are creating.
  • In a concise note or email, remind the editor of your local connection. ( You’re a member of this Big Box Club, you shop there often, you live in the neighborhood that the magazine covers, you’ve created something so unique that the national magazine will miss out if they don’t cover your story).
  • Your Email
  • Your Website address
  • Your Facebook address
  • Your Phone number

The media can’t share your news

if they don’t know about you!

Local Newspapers, Blogs, and Magazines

Check out: www.blogtopsites.com

Artists:   Read your local print media as well as social media!  Who is writing about the visual arts?

  • Send an email and introduce yourself!
  • Call and introduce yourself.
  • Invite people to your studio to tell them YOUR story and about YOUR creations!

Art Patrons:  Have you discovered a new creator?  According to life lessons learned in the sandbox, it is always nice to share!

“See What To Include” above

Magazines, Parade magazine,  and Blogs that highlight specialty items (Oprah Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Departures, etc)

Artists:  We personally know a number of LOCAL artists who have been highlighted in National magazines, International catalogues and Local news items that have propelled their success into the stratosphere!  How did they do it?

They wrote, they sent photos, they sent samples, they followed our advice… We encourage you to do the same!
