The Mandel JCC of the Palm Beaches welcomes the New Year with a brand new art exhibit. Beginning Tuesday, January 17, patrons will have the opportunity to view the stunning work of artist and Florida native Joan Brams.  The public is invited to the Opening Reception on January 17th and the exhibit continues through February 10th.  These are free and open to the public.  The Rickie Report shares the details and gives you a sneak peek.

For over 50 years, Joan Brams has been producing art for the Palm Beaches. On a nothing day, when Joan was twenty- five-years-old, she woke up, poured herself a cup of coffee, and decided that this would be the day she started painting. She enrolled herself in the Norton School of Art and began taking lessons with a local artist. Immediately, she felt that she had been creating art her entire life and within a short period of time, people were actually purchasing her works. Brams joined two other artists and they opened a gallery on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach for a short time.

Soon, other galleries in the area began to take notice of her, and she began putting on one woman shows around the county and eventually, the Findlay Gallery in New York. After moving to Dallas for a few years, she studied sculpting. There, she learned how to cast Styrofoam sculptures into bronze and aluminum. Additionally, she attended welding school and loved doing it as an art form. After several shows in Dallas, she returned to the Palm Beaches to learn about ceramics.

 
Now, as she resides in the Palm Beaches creating her own genre of art, she has delved into creating work in various media forms. She considers her opus to be in multi-layered works in the areas of painting, ceramics, bronze, aluminum and even one-of-a-kind necklaces. Lately, Brams has been working on Chinese rice paper. Her work is on display in many private as well as public collections. Five of her sculptures are also a permanent fixture at the Palm Beach International Airport.
