The history of NAWA is a testament to the strength and resilience of a group of strong women who would not accept being shut out of the art salons, galleries and art exhibitions open to male artists during the 19th century. The founding of the organization proves that, despite adversity and discrimination – which many feel extends to this day — women are an integral and valuable part of the arts community.

Since 1978 the Art League of Marco Island, now known as the Marco Island Center for the Arts, has been dedicated to offering educational programs in the arts, and it is a sustaining part of the culture of the Marco Island community by serving as a venue for exhibitions such as this exciting show. NAWA members represent all areas of the visual arts including painting, sculpture, photography, print-making, encaustic, video art, installations and mixed media. By showcasing a number of mediums the show will blaze new trails in its vision and conceptual approach. Barbara Anderson Hill, the juror for the exhibition has served in Florida’s leading art and cultural institutions for 30 years with professional expertise as executive director, curator, collections manager, juror, grant writer, educator and public art professional. She currently serves as member of the Alliance Board, chairs the Mound House Advisory Board, and is Emeritus Board member Florida’s public art organization.
