Levis JCC Presents “Holocaust Heroes: Fierce Females” Exhibit Sharing Positive Role Models By Linda Stein

In a world filled with instant media images that cause us to despair, the Levis JCC shares an exhibit that shows us courage in the face of what seemed insurmountable.  Linda Stein is an artist, activist, lecturer, and performer who explores gender roles and inspires compassion, empathy and bravery. She takes lessons of not-so-long-ago and shows us how they relate to our immediate time.  In her new series, Linda Stein highlights 10 female heroes of the Holocaust who stood up to violence and oppression. Her tapestries honor these positive female role models, communicating who they were and what they did through a variety of materials including fabric, metal, text and mixed media.  The Opening Reception follows a Lecture by Stein on Wednesday, December 9th in the eveningThe Rickie Report urges you to mark your calendars to see this uplifting tribute.  This is the only opportunity you will have in South Florida to see this powerful and inspiring exhibit! It is Free to the public. The Levis JCC is  celebrating 25 years of cultural programming.  Linda Stein’s message goes beyond the Holocaust.  She brings us a better understanding of the “4 B’s: the Bully, the Bullied, the Bystander and the Brave up-stander”.  Bring the family…learn about history and how to stop it from happening again.

Stein pointedly chooses to focus on female figures, traditionally neglected in heroic and historic narratives. Also on exhibit, Stein’s 20 Spoon to Shell box sculptures combine the shell and spoon, metaphors for nourishment and protection in the context of women in the Holocaust, within an amalgam of mixed materials, words and associations.
