Transitions In Northwood Village: Jonathon Ortiz-Smykla Takes New Role As Gallery And Events Manager At Center For Creative Education And Closes OSGS Gallery

The Rickie Report brings you the unfolding story of transition and change in Northwood Village’s Art Scene. Jonathon Ortiz-Smykla takes on a new role as Gallery and Events Manager at Center for Creative Education (CCE, Northwood Village) while Evelyn O. Smykla will be continuing the current exhibition at OSGS Gallery (Northwood Village) until October 31st. Currently OSGS is exhibiting 17 Artists from within and around Palm Beach County.  OSGS became a driving force along with the galleries in the Village to start and continue a free ArtWalk open to the public the 2nd Saturday of every month and supported the community and other merchants by being an active participant in the monthly Art Promenades and Friday Night Strolls through their tenure.  The Rickie Report shares the details and the sentiments of everyone involved:  This continues to be a journey of sharing art  and artists with the community.  Change can bring new opportunities! Kudos to Jonathon and Eveyln!

Grand Opening of OSGS

As of October 31 (yes, Halloween) OSGS (Ortiz-Smykla|Gallery-Studio) Works of Art and Custom Framing located in Northwood Village will be closing its doors. We have had quite an incredible run and have been witness to some wonderful artists and art. In the short time we have been open to exhibiting works of art and offering framing we have exhibited and represented over 50 artists and numerous works of art. OSGS has hosted receptions for both established and emerging artists. We have hosted a Virtual Auction for The Place of Hope and through the Collaborations and Mixed Media Event last year we supported the Center for Creative Education and their goal to educate children through the arts.

It’s a move that unknowingly began in March, 2015, as Jonathon (OSGS Gallery) produced ‘Collaborations and Mixed Mediums’ the charitable fine art exhibition at Center for Creative Education (CCE). That group exhibition was a huge success and now the CCE has extended a full-time position to Jonathon as Gallery and Events Manager to build a thriving events calendar in and around the CCE’s Marjorie S. Fisher Gallery at Center for Creative Education.

“Thank you goes to all of the artists who so graciously agreed to exhibit with us, the merchants of Northwood Village, Ilene Adams for her marketing expertise and, it goes without saying, Rickie and Jeff Leiter of the Rickie Report”.

“We are not going away, simply moving upward and in new directions. Jonathon can be found at The Center for Creative Education (Northwood Village) as their new Gallery and Events Manager (Marjorie S. Fisher Gallery) beginning October 1 and I (Evelyn) will be going into my second retirement and choosing to use my talents volunteering as needed in the arts community and as needs arise in my own backyard in Palm Beach Gardens/Jupiter/Juno areas”.

Jonathon is creating an active exhibition schedule for the Marjorie S. Fisher Gallery at Center for Creative Education. These exhibits will look to include local artists, national artists and programming that will benefit the mission of CCE and the local arts community. Open calls to artists will arise and Jonathon is hoping to reconnect with many of the artists OSGS represented and new faces to create successful exhibitions.
