FILM SHOWING AND LECTURE:
Internationally renown artist Faten Safieddine will show her short film “La Chrysalide” and talk about her work. This lecture is free and open to the public. In a dreamlike style, this film shows the struggle of women to extricate themselves from the yoke of the cultural and social conditioning and achieve freedom and fullness.
Born in Lebanon, Ms. Safieddine lives and works in Marrakesh and Paris. She was educated at the Sorbonne and the Université d’Abidjan and has shown her work throughout the Middle East, France and Canada.
Her photographic work explores the themes of the shadows, reflections and transparencies and has been the subject of several international exhibitions. In addition to working as a photographer and film maker, Ms Safieddine is a journalist, art critic and writer focusing on culture and history. In 1988 the Metropolitan Museum of Art commissioned her to create a documentary on the restoration of the Minbar in the Grand Mosque of Koutoubia. The documentary received the Image d’Or prize in France.
